The Producer’s Chair: Mark Bright

“When Reba & Gary LeVox step up to the mic, they bring it every single time and when Carrie starts singing…things go to a whole new level. She’s fun, she’s funny and she’s there to the finish, ” marveled Bright, who has again been recently blessed with another ‘remarkable singer’, Scotty McCreery, winner of American Idol’s 10th season. According to Bright, “It’s shocking how really good [Scotty] is.”

I then asked Mark if there were commonalities that he looks for in new artists that all major artists have, and without hesitation he said: “Yes, two things. Number one is Presence when they walk in the room. They either have it or they don’t. At 17 years old, you’d think that Scotty McCreery wouldn’t know which way is up, but that’s not the case. When that young man walks into a room he’s just got it. Number two is The Voice. I look for artists who can change the whole environment in the studio, when they open their mouth to sing.”

Producers Say Cheryl Cole’s Accent, Stateside Profile Not A Motive In ‘X Factor’ Exit

Producers at FOX say Cheryl Cole’s strong, regional English accent, and lack of profile stateside had no relationship to the British singer departing “The X Factor” as a judge and mentor after just two audition rounds.

Cecile Frot-Coutaz, an Executive Producer of “The X Factor, ” said Cole was well received by the American crowds and no contestants questioned whether she was experienced enough in the stateside entertainment world to judge.

Frot-Coutaz suggested that Simon Cowell’s own departure from “The X Factor’s” UK branch to the U.S. edition was responsible for producers thinking it might be best to keep Cole on the British show.

Darnell confirmed that Cole’s exit will be featured as part of “The X Factor” when it begins this September.

Brain Damage And Five Million Dollars: The Crazy, Crazy World Of Fox’s ‘X Factor’

It is now Day 10 of panel discussions at the Television Critics Association press tour. It is already a time when nerves are frayed, there’s too much coffee in everyone’s veins, and the fact that we can’t get Diet Coke because Fox has a deal with Pepsi begins to take on the psychological dimensions of an actual problem, which it is not. We’re starting to ask weird questions like “When did you first know you were adorable?” (which someone asked of Zooey Deschanel at the panel about her fall show, The New Girl).

‘SYTYCD’ Dancers Caitlynn & Ricky Speak Post-Elimination

This Thursday was a bittersweet night on “So You Think You Can Dance.” While no one could argue with the final four, who were announced that evening (Melanie, Marko, Sasha, and Tadd, all of whom were America’s top four vote-getters this week and all of whom are amazing in their own ways), it was tough to say goodbye to worthy contenders Caitlynn and Ricky. Especially Ricky, who was my personal favorite male dancer this season, and who I thought had a real shot of making it to the finale over fellow dark horse Tadd. (Ricky scored more votes than Tadd last week, so really, it could have been either of them, down to the wire.)

‘SYTYCD’ Allstars Lauren & Kent Advise Season 8’s Final Four, Are Adorable

This week on “So You Think You Can Dance, ” last season’s champion and runner-up, Lauren Froderman and Kent Boyd, returned to the show to reprise their iconic, Travis Wall-choreographed, Emmy-nominated “Collide” routine, complete with a reenactment of their famous onstage smooch. Kent also served as an allstar for Sasha’s amazing wall dance (the most “Deeley chills”-worthy routine of Wednesday night), following Lauren’s return as an allstar last week in a surprisingly sexy jazz routine with Tadd.

‘SYTYCD’ Judges Discuss Top 6 Week Eliminations, Finale Predictions

While the results were hardly surprising–the final four have been frontrunners all season long, and have all earned their rightful spots in the finale–the judges still had plenty to say backstage after Thursday’s eliminations. Click the videos below to see Nigel discuss why he still thinks a girl will win this season, and what weaknesses each contestant needs to respectively overcome in order to win; to see Mary make her own predictions and reveal why the male contestants have been underestimated this season; and to see Lil’ C colorfully and colloquially describe each contestant and reveal what sort of routine he would’ve choreographed for Sasha if he’d had the chance.
