The Biz: Big American Idol News Coming Monday

Monday is the day when American Idol changes forever.

According to an industry source close to the situation, Fox and Idol’s production company, 19 Entertainment, have made their decision on a replacement for departing judge Simon Cowell — and will make an announcement at the network’s Television Critics Association summer press tour presentation on Aug. 2.

Kris Allen: ‘The Truth’ Video Preview!

Kris Allen shoots his new music video for “The Truth” in the middle of the Californian desert.

But the weather wasn’t very cooperative!

“Apparently, in the desert, when it starts raining the ground just turns into mush, ” the 25-year-old American Idol champ told MTV. “It started to monsoon, man! It was crazy. It was one of the biggest storms I’ve ever been in but it was almost kind of fun in a way. We were just standing outside, [but] I felt like we had just jumped in the pool.”

Sony Music Posts Gains in Most Recent Quarter

Sony Music Entertainment posted slight gains in the quarter ending June 30, 2010. The company’s revenue increased 1.3% to 110.3 billion yen ($1.24 billion) from 108.8 billion yen last year. Sony cited the impacts of top sellers such as AC/DC’s “Iron Man 2” soundtrack, music from the TV show “Glee, ” Usher’s “Raymond v Raymond” and Kana Nishino’s “to LOVE.”

Operating income rose 39% to 7.5 billion yen ($84 million) from 5.4 billion yen. The company attributed the increase to its top sellers as well as a decrease in marketing and overhead costs.

Kristy Lee Cook Tackles Great Outdoors in New Show

The idea is simple but ingenious, really: Take a winsome country singer, give her a hunting show that features exotic locales and throw in a couple of celebrities.

That’s the premise behind Versus’ “Goin’ Country, ” which features former “American Idol” contestant Kristy Lee Cook in a reality show based on her life and her love of hunting.

The show, which begins Sunday, highlights hunts from Texas to Wisconsin to Nashville. Country singer Aaron Tippin takes her turkey hunting on his land near Music City, fellow “Idol” finalist Blake Lewis joins her on a deer hunt in Texas and singer Jake Owen and his twin brother, Jarrod, go after exotic deer in Missouri.

“Financially, it’s good for you, and the experience of it, and for your own growth as a musician, it’s amazing to be on tour and perform in front of that many people, ” Lynche says. “That’s what you always dream about, and you skip a lot of steps when you go on the American Idol tour, as far as the arenas you play and the number of people you get to be in front of.

“A lot of us in the top 10 this year were already working musicians and wanted to get a leg up in our career, so being in the top 10 and going on tour is something to look forward to, and spending the summer doing something great.”
