Q&A: Adam Lambert on ‘Idol’ voting, debut album

Here’s Adam Lambert on his rise to fame, the show that made it possible, his first post-“Idol” album and the tour that brings him to the Marquee Theatre on Sunday, Aug. 1.

Q: Is it safe to expect a fairly theatrical performance from you when you get here?

A: Yeah. That’s kind of part of what I do. But there’s a middle section in the concert where I literally sit on a stool and I have my guitar player playing acoustic. And that’s just as much a part of me as all the smoke and mirrors and the costumes.

SomethingPitchy Backstage With the Idols: Siobhan Magnus and Aaron Kelly (VIDEO)

First up today, Gaby was charmed by the country etiquette of 17-year-old Aaron Kelly. The two talked dental hygiene and tried to write a country song together. (Key word: Tried.)

Then, Siobhan Magnus, Gaby’s season 9 crush, made her day with talk of jewelry sharing, crazy audience facial expressions and little sisters with coyote head hats. (So weird and cute!) Plus, Magnus revealed that she’s staying with her hometown band post-Idol tour.

Iraheta happy in support mode for ‘big brother’ Lambert

Since its release in December, Iraheta’s debut album, “Just Like You, ” has sold more than 100, 000 copies. Originally booked for only the tour’s first half, Iraheta’s been so popular with audiences that her contract was extended last week through the end of the Glam Nation tour (also sharing the opening bill is Australian guitarist/singer Orianthi). Iraheta talked about the tour in a phone interview from Portland, Ore., last week.

Q: So what’s next for you after the tour ends in the fall?

A: Another album. That’s the goal for next year. I’m writing stuff now. I’m doing a lot of “goal” writing and writing about life in general. I really like singing about stuff people can relate to. And I’d love to act. I want to see what a cheesy actress I can be. I think that would be a lot of fun.

Adam Lambert: The Glam Nation Tour Backstage Interview

And, being a superb multi-tasker, Adam also managed to discuss his ever-evolving persona, his pre-performance rituals, Glam Nation audience behavior, and his upcoming second album (out in spring 2011!!), all while getting cosmetically spackled.

Watch now, and prepare to be dazzled:

Adam says he’ll have the opportunity to write a lot more on the next album, which he plans to work on, at least partly, while he’s touring abroad in the fall. He wants to make sure the new cuts translate well to live performance.
