Thousands register for American Idol; Seacrest to attend Charleston auditions

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest will be in Charleston on Friday for season 11 auditions. The auditions are just two days away, but if you plan on belting out your best song, first you will need to sign up.

Registration is going on right now at the North Charleston Coliseum. Thousands of potential contestants began registering at 7 a.m. Those who signed up received a wrist band for Friday morning’s auditions where they will arrive at 5 a.m.

Looking pretty in an alice + olivia ensemble, Katharine McPhee was spotted arriving at the Shark Night 3D VIP bash in San Diego, CA on Wednesday (July 20).

Joined by co-stars Alyssa Diaz and Sara Paxton, the 27-year-old singer/actress was on hand to celebrate the upcoming release of her new David R. Ellis-directed thriller about seven vacationers at a lake house in the Louisiana Gulf whose holiday turns into a nightmare when they are subjected to fresh-water shark attacks.

Shark Night 3D will swim its way into theaters on September 2.

Darren Criss, also known as Blaine Anderson, lead singer of the Dalton Academy Warblers on the hit Fox TV series “Glee, ” performs Friday as part of the Starburst Summer Concert Series at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Actress/singer/dancer Alyson Stoner (“Cheaper by the Dozen, ” Disney’s “Camp Rock”) opens.

Criss was recently confirmed as a series regular (season three starts Sept. 20) and his version of Katy Perry’s “Firework” (with the Tufts University all-male a cappella group the Beelzebubs as the Warblers) gave the show its second No. 1 hit after season one’s “Don’t Stop Believin’.”

Sony Music appoints Nick Gatfield to head its British operations

Sony Music, the music major behind Simon Cowell, on Thursday appointed Nick Gatfield – a former member of Dexy’s Midnight Runners – to take over its British operations in place of Ged Doherty.

The sudden switch at the number two record group comes just three weeks after Doug Morris took the helm at Sony Music worldwide – and brings together two men who previously worked together at Sony’s principal rival Universal.

Steven Tyler and Joe Perry together again

The Toxic Twins are back in the saddle. Or at least they’re back to being in the same room as one another.

Yesterday a video surfaced (see it below) of Tyler and Perry at the Boneyard — Perry’s storied home studio. The clip doesn’t show much — it’s mostly Perry talking about Ry Cooder’s guitar rig — but there’s a lot we can take away about Aerosmith’s future from the minute and a half.
