Bids for CKX, which makes the hit TV show, range from $550 million to $600 million. What bidders see in the firm, whose main asset lost 9% of its audience last season, remains a mystery.

The contest on “American Idol” is playing second fiddle to the contest for “American Idol.”

In recent weeks a fan club of investors has been circling CKX Inc., the company behind the Fox hit and No. 1 show on television. Among the suitors are “Idol’s” creator, Simon Fuller, and Hollywood dealmaker Allen Shapiro.

A spokesman for the British singer and ‘X Factor’ judge says Cole is being treated in a London hospital and has been forced to cancel all work commitments for the next week. Simon Cowell has reportedly insisted that she return to her judge’s seat only when she is well enough.

Jordin Sparks keeps busy, keeps it simple

Things have been crazy for Arizona native Jordin Sparks [ tickets ] since she won “American Idol” in 2007. But it’s a good kind of crazy, she said.

“I don’t know where to begin, ” Sparks said when asked by SoundSpike about her highlights since winning the Fox television show. “When I sang the National Anthem at the Super Bowl, that was huge for me. I come from a football family and that was just a really, really big deal. I got to sing for President Bush when he was still in office and for Obama’s inauguration, which was insane.”
