Oh, if only today’s kids were as tough as we were

“American Idol” 2006 competitor Bucky Covington is back on the country chart with his latest single, “A Different World.” The song, written by Mark Nesler, Jennifer Hanson and Tony Martin, is a paean to a childhood without seat belts, bike helmets or the surgeon general’s tobacco warning labels.

The chorus:

TV specials to watch on July 4th

…Martina McBride and Joss Stone will sing. American Idol winner Jordin Sparks will perform a song with runners-up Blake Lewis and Melinda Doolittle. Time constraints limit the Idol trio to one song…

…He expects new artist Kelly Pickler to draw even more.

…If it a nice evening it will be standing room only, he said.

Pickler was the sixth-place finalist in the 2006 season of …American Idol and one of Simon Cowell favorite singers. Her country album …Small Town Girl was released last fall and went No. 1 on the country charts and No. 9 on the Billboard charts.

…I think she is going to be the highlight of the fair this year, Clark said.

Pop Life 97: Tunes Were Empty, but the Coffers Were Full

…For better or worse, the musical fallout of that summer is still with us, too. Because of those teen-pop acts, lip-synching became more commonplace (and more accepted) at concerts. Single girls: You gotta have faith

…BOXERS OR BRIEFS? I thought I had solved the mystery of Bothell “Idol” Blake Lewis’ underwear when someone called in a hot tip about spotting boxers in his luggage. Au contraire. “I thought I’d let you know that Blake does not actually wear boxers OR briefs, ” writes Tracy from Albany, N.Y. To prove it, she even sent me a You Tube link ‘ of Blake talking about going commando, not actual video of him being commando, and thank goodness because this is a family newspaper. “I guess his owning boxers is kind of like my owning a treadmill, ” Tracy went on. “You bought it, you meant to use it, but somehow … ” In related news: Does anyone care anymore? …
