Fantasia’s ‘Bittersweet’ video: Best of her career? (Yes!)

I can’t stop watching Fantasia’s new video for “Bittersweet” on repeat loop, and I’m not just saying that because today is her 26th birthday or because she remains my all-time favorite Idol. Indeed, while the clip for this gorgeous, old-soul ballad doesn’t break any new ground in terms of storytelling (Fantasia reminisces about an ex-lover) or visual effects (rich, retro lighting prevails), it finds the American Idol season 3 champ at her stylish, classy best — and that’s no small achievement for an amazing vocalist whose look has occasionally been more “gah!” than gahhh-geous.

Danny Gokey Is Sponging Off Sugarland’s ‘Incredible Machine’

“At this point in my career, I’ve become a sponge, because I understand the only way to get better is to learn from the people who are the best, ” says the Wisconsin native. “And Sugarland, they’re the best of the best out there. To see their set design, to see their interaction with the crowd, to see how their movements sparks energy; when you get on a stage, you first have to get a thermometer and kind of gauge the atmosphere and watch how they’re doing that. Because each city is different. Each city, not everyone is going to be up on their feet shouting or dancing. Sometimes they’re going to be sitting down. You have to learn how to manipulate and control a show at that point. I’m learning from them and from everyone I can get my hands on and watch.”

Sparks has moved on from ‘American Idol, ‘ and then some

It’s been three years since Jordin Sparks was crowned the youngest-ever “American Idol” winner, but the 20-year-old R&B singer has hardly slowed down.

She’s riding high on her sophomore album, “Battlefield, ” she’s sold more than 9 million singles worldwide, she’s making her Broadway debut next month, has a clothing line, a soon-to-release fragrance and has toured with Jonas Brothers (who share her evangelical Christian values and purity ring).

The Grammy nominee visits San Diego next week for a concert at the House of Blues, and the wholesome, bubbly brunette answered a few questions via e-mail.

Don’t Laugh — Ryan Seacrest Is Larry King’s Best Replacement

Seacrest has a curiosity that will serve him well as a talk show host. Even in the most benign interviews, he likes to ask the questions the average viewer would like to know, mainly because, for the most part, he’s still looking at show business from an outsider’s perspective.

Last year, for instance, he interviewed ‘American Idol’ winner Kris Allen on King’s show. And while the topic was in his wheelhouse and he’d likely gotten to know Allen a bit during the ‘Idol’ season, Seacrest still asked questions about “the Christian vote, ” what Allen’s toughest week was, and why Arkansas doesn’t get a lot of respect.

Ask Jayma Mays about John Stamos playing Emma’s dentist/love interest in Glee‘s upcoming second season and she turns as giddy as we were when we first heard the news. We caught up with Mays yesterday to chat about Stamos, the Smurfs movie she just wrapped last week opposite Neil Patrick Harris, and Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, a charity for which she’s helping to raise awareness and funds.
