Fox’s Plans for a Glee Reality Show Have Been Quietly Shelved

This year will see a little less Glee, and that’s probably a good thing, not only for your Journey-bludgeoned ears, but also for the show. Vulture has learned that Fox is scrapping its previously announced plans to air a reality competition designed to cast unknown singers in the show. The reason: Glee creator Ryan Murphy wants to keep his focus on producing the main series, and overseeing another brand extension would end up being a distraction that could hurt the show.

Fox unveiled the never-titled reality project last January at the same time it confirmed it was renewing Glee for a second season. It solicited audition videos on ye olde MySpace from contestants who wanted to compete for one of three new roles on the show; the ensuing happy-off would be filmed for an American Idol–like multipart special that would lead up to the season-two premiere. “There’s never really been an unscripted program like this on television before, ” Fox reality overlord Mike Darnell promised at the time.

So what about all those young folks who uploaded videos of themselves belting out “True Colors” and other Glee-friendly hits? Don’t put mittens on those jazz hands yet: While the reality show is dead, Murphy and his producing team still plan on choosing several winners from the online casting competition and giving them a spot on Glee (at least for one episode).

‘American Idol’ Contestant Aaron Kelly on Songwriting, Going Country and Becoming an Uncle

What’s your tour set going to look like?
I don’t really want to give anything away. But I will say that it’s going to be very modern country-themed, like the style of artist that I see myself. If I were to put out an album, that’s the direction I see myself going in. My set’s going to really revolve around that.

Can I guess?
[Laughs] You can guess. It’d probably be best if you guessed some artists. I think that would be best.

I would say Rascal Flatts.
Rascal Flatts — they’re definitely a given. [Laughs] But around that genre, yes, ma’am. I will say, ‘Fast Cars and Freedom’ is one of the songs I’m doing.

I got to talk to David Archuleta, which was very cool; a lot of people have been comparing us. It was really cool to get to meet Archie and Brooke [White]. She was just super sweet, and I voted for her in her season. Just getting to meet all the people I voted for and talk to them was so awesome.

Would you want to collaborate with any of them?
Oh, I would definitely love to collaborate with Brooke.

Rabid Adam Lambert Fans Line Up 24 Hours Before New York Show

NEW YORK — Scorching temperatures and puzzled looks from passersby could not keep Adam Lambert fans from lining up outside New York’s Nokia Theatre a full 24 hours in advance of his Glam Nation Tour stop.

For Eileen Monahan, spending the night sleeping on a “disgusting” Times Square sidewalk in front of the venue was the only way to guarantee she had the best spot inside the general-admission concert. “I want to be up front, ” insisted Monahan, before admitting, “[For Adam], I’d sleep here again.”

Glee producers ‘ban sex on set after young cast broke strict rules’

Ryan Murphy, one of the creators and producers of the smash hit American musical comedy show, was forced to issue the special guidelines for the series’ young actors after the breach of the on-set rules.

He said he banned sex in cast trailers, in an attempt to stamp out romances between the young actors spiralling out of control and to maintain discipline.

He admitted he often felt like “the dad” on set and despite the long production days and the physical demands he insisted they keep professional and not act on their urges on set.
