‘American Idol’ source: Don’t necessarily expect Simon Cowell replacement by July 17 audition kickoff

But don’t jump to conclusions and assume the July 17 audition kickoff is a hard and fast deadline for a Cowell replacement announcement, says a source close to the show. The announced Nashville date — as well as subsequent stops in Milwaukee, Wis., New Orleans, East Rutherford, N.J., Austin, Tex., and finally, San Francisco (on Aug. 19) — merely represent the un-televised, cattle-call portion of the audition rounds, during which tens of thousands of hopefuls will wait in lines at big stadium settings for the chance to sing in front of Idol producers.

Contestants won’t actually film in front of Idol‘s judging panel till “September-ish” says the source, who has not heard when the announcement about a Cowell replacement will be made or what the final lineup of season 10 judges will look like.

Rumors have been flying and it still looks like country music may have opened it’s arms to yet another American Idol contestant. Casey James was seen enjoying the CMA Festival festivities with Josh Thompson and the A&R rep from Sony Music Nashville (who signed Danny Gokey).

So is Casey James a “woot woot bring it on” or a “no thank you” for country fans?

Q&A: Jordin Sparks; Tuesday Night at Revolution

After winning American Idol in 2007, Jordin Sparks hasn’t attained Carrie Underwood-level success, but she’s fared far better in her pop career than Idol alums like Taylor Hicks. Her self-titled debut album featured two smash singles, “Tattoo” and a duet with Chris Brown, “No Air.” Both songs showed that Sparks can put her DNA into material and helped the disc move more than 2 million copies worldwide.

New Times recently got on the horn with Sparks — who does not want teens to text and drive, and neither do we — to discuss her new tour, moving to New York, and what a Cowell-less American Idol will feel like.

‘Glee’ exclusive: Charice IS joining the cast!

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Charice is joining Glee.

No, really this time!

When that rumor began to spread earlier this month via her loose-lipped manager, Charice herself shot it down via Twitter. “I just want to let you all know, that it’s not true that I’m going to be on Glee, ” she said.

Well, it’s true now! Sources confirm to me exclusively that the international pop star is signed, sealed, and delivered to recur next season as a foreign exchange student whose killer vocals get Rachel (Lea Michele) contemplating murder.
