Lee DeWyze: The inside story of his first two CDs

Both albums were released by the Chicago-based indie label WuLi Records, which was established in 2005 by producer-drummer Ryan T. McGuire and guitarist Louis Svitek, who has played with industrial-metallers Ministry, amongst others. McGuire and Svitek also backed DeWyze on the two CDs. “I’ve been working with Lee since he was 17, ” says Svitek. “A friend of mine was like, ‘Hey, I met this young kid, and I think he’s somebody you’d like to work with.’ Lee played some stuff for me, and we just started working together from there. I really think eventually Lee would have become noticed no matter what. But he approached us right after we recorded Slumberland and was like, ‘I want to do American Idol.’ We released him from his contract and off he went.”

A Conversation With My Father- Part 1

In the never-ending attempt to find out a little more about myself, my personal history, I sat down with my Father this weekend when he was in town and asked him a few questions. As 5’ 7”, 74 years-young African-American, my Father has worn many hats in his lifetime, as you’ll soon hear. From Police Chief of Atlanta to touring musician, County Commissioner Chairman to Ordained Minister, Motivational life coach to Dad. None less important to him than the other, yet none so deep-seated in his psyche than naturally being a Father figure to almost everyone he comes across. So, we spoke, I asked some pointed questions, some fun questions and in the end I think we both learned a thing or two about each other.

Here are 2 installments of an I-don’t-know-many-part (there is a lot of audio) series. Just click the play icons below to access part’s 1 and 1.5.

Dream Dancing with Paula Abdul on ‘Drop Dead Diva’ (VIDEO)

‘Drop Dead Diva’ (Sun., 9PM ET on Lifetime) has had many a celebrity guest star who could pass as a diva herself, such as Liza Minnelli, Delta Burke and Paula Abdul.

In the season 2 opener, the former ‘American Idol’ judge again appeared, this time in a dream sequence.

“The truth has set you free, ” said Paula. “But you gotta promise me something, Jane. That you’re going to stay true to who you are no matter what.” Jane promised she would and said, “Would I lie to you, judge Paula Abdul?”

Then Jane broke into song. As her featured backup dancer, Paula flaunted her diva moves in a judge’s robe/miniskirt combo, even wielding a courtroom gavel at one point.

The Glee Finale

Was it Steve Perry or Michel de Montaigne who said that it is not the arrival but the journey that matters? Last May, when Fox broadly introduced Glee to advertisers at the upfronts, it roused the crowd by bringing forth the musical’s cast to belt out Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’. ” A few hours later, when the pilot hit the airwaves—just after American Idol and about four months before its regular-season run—the popular audience felt its heart swell to the same number. The players converted the song into the underdog anthem of New Directions, the glee club at William McKinley, its membership made up of kids born to sing the blues.

Interview – Chris Colfer

When first-time actor Chris Colfer tried out for a role in Glee, co-creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy liked his audition so much that he created a role for him, as sensitive gay teenager Kurt Hummel. In the last year, Colfer has gone from unknown to a favorite of Glee’s large, loud cult audience, which loves his character’s superiority complex and complicated relationship with his father. Glee’s season finale airs on Fox on Tuesday, June 8 at 9 p.m. EST. Colfer and the rest of the show’s cast just returned from a stint on the road, supporting the show with a live stage production, and Colfer recently talked to The A.V. Club about taking Glee on the road, building a believable relationship with a guest star, and the perils and benefits of working with a large ensemble cast.

‘Glee’s’ Matthew Morrison plans solo CD

Matthew Morrison is taking a summer break from “Glee, ” but not from music.

Morrison, who stars as earnest, upbeat glee club coach Will Schuester on the hit Fox series, planned to spend part of June in London working on his first solo CD.

“I’m writing all the music for it. It’s me and a big orchestra behind me, ” Morrison said of the work in progress. He described his style on the album as a “dance heavy” cross between Michael Buble and Justin Timberlake.

“Glee” wraps the season with Tuesday’s finale (9 p.m. EDT), in which Schuester’s New Directions club faces off against heavyweight rival Vocal Adrenaline at the long-awaited regional competition. Olivia Newton-John, Josh Groban, Idina Menzel and Jonathan Groff guest star.

Finally!

Now that we’re one day away from Glee’s first season finale, I can dish a few deets on the hush-hush visit I made to set as they were shooting tomorrow’s big episode. (Shhh…)

It’s the big face-off between Vocal Adrenaline and New Directions, but here’s the (sucking?) face time some of you fans really want to see:

Finn (Cory Monteith) and Rachel (Lea Michele) making googly eyes with each other right before–and during–their performance of Journey’s “Faithfully” at the long-awaited Regionals showdown.
