‘American Idol’ tour cuts eight shows

Industry experts suggest that waning interest in this past season, not just the economy, might be to blame for poor ticket sales in select markets.

“They’ve cut shows that weren’t selling anywhere near what they were expecting, ” says Gary Bongiovanni of concert trade magazine Pollstar.

America is voting no on ‘Idol’ Live tour

A source close to the production had a little bit more to say about the sad state of the Idol Live tour.

“No one was very optimistic about the success of the Idols tour this summer, ” said one well-placed “Idol” source. “They knew they didn’t have big stars on their hands, and really, ‘American Idol’s’ focus isn’t about creating a successful tour, it’s about creating a successful show, week to week. But unfortunately, the tour (not doing well) reflects badly on the show, especially since there’s the ‘who will replace Simon’ situation to contend with this year.”

‘Idol’ Thoughts, Part One: The Lee DeWyze, Andrew Garcia interviews

So, for today’s blog it’s Andrew Garcia to start things off. Garcia, you’ll remember from such previous blogs as this, initially wowed the judges and America with an acoustic version of Paula Abdul’s “Straight Up” as part of Hollywood week on Idol, and then flamed out. He was the second to go in the top 10.

The second interview is with Lee DeWyze, who grew from timid, “I’m just happy to be here” performer to front runner and eventual winner by season’s end.

‘American Idol’ winner Lee DeWyze will get paid for pre-show albums, exec says

“American Idol” winner Lee DeWyze, who in an interview with Lehigh Valley Music last week said he wasn’t making money off the release of his two pre-“Idol” albums, will indeed get paid, the record label’s co-founder says.

But DeWyze’s contract stipulates Chicago-based Wu-Li Records has to recover the cost of making the albums – 2007’s “So I’m Told” and the new “Slumberland” – before anyone is paid, exec Ryan McGuire says.

“I haven’t made a dime off it, either, ” McGuire says.

Allison Iraheta: Beatweek interview with the future of rock and roll

“I only know where I’m at because it’s a day off” she tells me, and even “day off” is a relative term in that it simply means there’s no Glam Nation concert for her that night; she’s just come from doing local radio press and now she’s chatting with me. Allison Iraheta hasn’t likely had a real day off since she tried out for American Idol when she was sixteen years old and then spent the season rising to fame while competing with fellow musicians as much as a a decade her senior. Since then she’s done the Idol tour, pushed out her debut album Just Like You, and has now embarked on the Glam Nation tour with former Idolmate Adam Lambert and Orianthi. The timing is good, as Allison has just released her new single Don’t Waste The Pretty, which not so coincidentally features the latter on guitar.
