NBC early peek: ‘Smash’ as good it gets, Messing, McPhee, Huston shine

Regulars know I rarely get excited about network television fare, but NBC’s new drama ‘Smash’ is a delicious slice of the bright lights of Broadway.

Add to that a kickass female cast that sets the tone for great dialogue, scenes and pacing, as Tony Award-nominee Christian Borle and Emmy Award-winner Debra Messing are a composing team that has a tiger by the tail in the name of ‘Marilyn, ‘ a new musical with all the right songs, but no star.

Carrie Underwood Loves Country Music’s ‘Normal People’

Carrie Underwood is at least partially responsible for bringing a new wave of fans to country music, with several crossover hits to her credit, including ‘Jesus, Take the Wheel, ‘ ‘Before He Cheats’ and ‘Undo It.’ But the blond beauty insists her beloved genre’s universal appeal is owed to more than just its hit tunes.

It’s Official: GLEE Writers Really Are Making it Up As They Go Along!

“The show is written with only three writers and Ryan and them are so busy, they’re writing as we go and working their butts off, ” admitted Dot Marie Jones when asked if she could shed any light on what may-or-may-not be in store for Coach Beiste next season. “Somedays they’d only finish three of the six acts — so when we’d get a script two days before we start working and you weren’t anywhere in there — you’d know you’re going to be in the episode, you’ll just get your lines sometime during the eight days we shoot a show.”

Added Matthew Morrison, “Literally, the end of the season, the season finale we just shot, they were handing us script pages, like, ‘Say this right here.’ The show is such an epic thing to film, we got so backed up. So I have no idea, I think the writers are taking a little break, and no one really knows anything.”
