‘American Idol’: What Wasn’t on TV for Casey’s Elimination

In hometown visits broadcast on the show, all three remaining Idols got emotional about making it so far. Casey returned to Fort Worth, Texas and visited the hospital where doctors had saved his life after an awful motorcycle accident six years ago. Casey’s mom Debra recalled for TV viewers how she put his guitar next to him in the hospital bed to inspire him to recover.

Just days before the final three, Debra had exclusively told OK! more of her son’s story. She said, “It took him a year to learn how to walk. He was in a wheel chair for about six months. It was a very, very long recovery. And he hurts still. He doesn’t ever say it, and he won’t say it, but he hurts everyday. He’s got way limited motion on his left wrist. I don’t know if he even wants me saying this, but he just pushes through it. He just doesn’t complain.”

Carrie Underwood Won’t Name ‘Idol’ Pick

Carrie Underwood isn’t naming favorites when it comes to American Idol.

The Grammy-winning country singer won the show in 2005, and doesn’t want to give any of the contestants an unfair advantage.

“I do have a couple that I’m watching, but I never announce who I like because I remember when I was on the show, and people did that, and it was like ‘oh man, ’” Carrie, 27, says. “They’re under enough pressure. I’d never want to do that.”

But when it comes to her favorite American Idol of all time, she isn’t afraid to name-drop.

“I really like being around Fantasia, ” she says. “I think she’s such a wonderful spirit and a wonderful person. I think she’s so talented. Yeah, I think she’s definitely up there for me.”

Rumor Control: Simon Cowell ‘loves, ‘ but does not own the rights to, Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’

In the wake of Lee DeWyze’s much-buzzed-about rendition of “Hallelujah” on American Idol this week, internet chatter turned to the fact that Alexandra Burke, season 5 winner of Britain’s The X Factor, also performed the Leonard Cohen composition during her championship run on the latter show. Message-board conspiracy theorists and several gossip sites picked up on the connection and claimed that Idol judge Simon Cowell (who also produces and serves as a panelist on X Factor, which he’ll bring to U.S. audiences in fall 2011) chose “Hallelujah” for DeWyze because he’d purchased the rights to the song several years ago and stood to personally profit from the performance.

‘Glee’ Exclusive: Susan Boyle to play the McKinley High lunch lady?

Glee has already had some phenomenal guest-stars so far, including Josh Groban, Kristin Chenoweth, and, last night, Neil Patrick Harris. Now, EW has learned a certain music (and YouTube) sensation may be appearing on the hit Fox series in a season two Christmas episode: Susan Boyle. The Britain’s Got Talent runner-up is conveniently on the same record label, Columbia, as the Glee cast. And who would Boyle play? “I have two words for you: Lunch. Lady, ” says Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy. “I think Kurt would just die to give her a Christmas makeover. I don’t even know if she’s interested but it’s been pitched.” Besides the potential Boyle guest spot, Murphy also tells EW that there are plans for the cast to release a Christmas album as well (Rob Stringer, Columbia/Epic’s chairman, wouldn’t confirm the Boyle or Christmas album details but did say, “All very interesting ideas. I’ll bring them up at the next development meeting.”).

Rocking an Oliver Twisted, “Clockwork Orange”-inspired look, the imagery seemed even zanier than first described by media outlets, like this report by MTV.

Casey James’ ‘American Idol’ Exit Not A Surprise, Experts Say

Our other expert, MJ Santilli of “Idol” fan site MJsbigblog.com, also called Casey’s ouster and agreed that it was expected after James submarined himself with the Hutchinson pick.

“No way that boring Eric Hutchinson song was going to propel him into the finals, ” she said. “If he’d picked something bluesy and upbeat, it would have complemented the ballad Kara and Randy gave him. But, maybe there was nothing Casey could do to dodge the bus that was coming for him. The producers were gunning for a Crystal/Lee final, and they made sure they got it. Crystal and Lee got better judges’ songs, performance order spots, lighting and stage sets. Casey knew he was going home.”
