David Cook to Perform on ‘Idol’ Finale, Appear at Simon Fuller Star Dedication

As American Idol season 7 winner David Cook gears up to release his highly anticipated second album This Loud Morning (due June 28), the rocker will make several key stops in the coming weeks, among them: an appearance at the Hollywood Walk of Fame induction ceremony honoring Simon Fuller and a performance on the Idol season 10 finale, THR’s Idol Worship has learned.

On the Idol finale, airing May 24 and 25 on Fox, Cook will sing the season’s send-off song, a cover of Simple Minds’ iconic “Don’t You” (Forget About Me), ” which he recorded last fall. “Every time I hear that song I think of Judd Nelson on the football field with his fist in the air, ” Cook told THR in April. “I’m extremely happy with the end result. It was a huge honor.”

Secrets Behind ‘American Idol’s’ Incredible Comeback

When the house lights came up at L.A. Live’s Nokia Theatre on May 26, 2010, the night of the Season 9 finale, there was a widely held belief in the entertainment world that American Idol was on its way down. Gone was the show’s star judge, Simon Cowell, who had announced his departure four months earlier; its experiment with a four-person panel, which included daytime host Ellen DeGeneres and songwriter Kara DioGuardi, had ostensibly failed (both would exit the show within the next three months); and viewers less than enthused with the year’s crop of contestants had started tuning out. With ratings tumbling 18 percent on finale night and giant question marks looming on the horizon, the members of the Idol brain trust — which include creator Simon Fuller, FremantleMedia North America CEO Cecile Frot-Coutaz, Fox president of alternative programming Mike Darnell and executive producers Nigel Lythgoe (brought back after a two-season leave) and Ken Warwick, along with judge Randy Jackson and host Ryan Seacrest — had their

Drama! ‘Idol’ is unpredictably shocking this year

In most “American Idol” seasons, James Durbin’s elimination on May 12 would have been the shocker of the year. Durbin, the metal-loving contestant who had sailed through the first four months of the competition, was widely expected to make it to the finale but instead finished in fourth place.

That type of blindside has been par for the course this season, however. And though Ryan Seacrest may be on a 10-year streak of teasing the “shocking results!” every week, this season, he actually means it.

Randy Jackson Marvels At ‘Diversity Of The Talent’ On ‘American Idol’

“Of course, saving Casey was a high point, ” Jackson told MTV News “Idol” expert Jim Cantiello, “but, you know, we finally got to the live shows, and we saw what we did out on the road with the audition rounds.

“We were like, ‘Oh my God, ‘ ” he recalls thinking with fellow judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. “Each of these kids really has something special.”

Haley Reinhart: From High School Jazz Band To ‘American Idol’

Lots of kids join the drama club or play in their high school jazz band. Some are OK, some pretty impressive and a few are just flat-out great. Most of them go on to study econ or art history in college and every once in a while they get up and surprise their college buddies with some shockingly good karaoke at a campus bar.

Haley Reinhart is not one of those kids. The 20-year-old Wheeling, Illinois, native has become the unexpected dark-horse contestant on season 10 of “American Idol, ” crawling back from four bottom-three appearances to a spot in the top three and a real shot at the title.

Scotty McCreery’s Pals Thought ‘American Idol’ Was ‘A Far-Fetched Idea’

There are so many unusual things about “American Idol” finalist Scotty McCreery: his signature microphone technique, his preternatural ease onstage and, oh yeah, the fact that’s he’s both a kick-ass baseball pitcher for his high school team, the Garner Trojans, and one of the key members of Garner Magnet High School’s vocal ensemble, Die Meistersingers.

Lauren Alaina Was A 12-Year-Old Karaoke Diva Before ‘American Idol’

Sometimes you hear too-cute-for-words stories about now-famous singers that you find hard to believe. Like the time they got up in front of the family at Christmas and sang a pitch-perfect “Silent Night” while still in diapers. Or how they used to sing to patrons when delivering food to their tables at the town pizza joint, or grabbed a microphone at karaoke night at a local bar when they were just 12 and turned it into a regular weekly gig that drew packed houses.
