Kellie Pickler unveils new video tonight

Albemarle native Kellie Pickler will debut her latest music video Friday on the GAC Top 20 Country Countdown, according to GACTV.com. The show airs at 8 p.m.

Pickler and director Roman White chose a 1940s era USO theme to bring “Making Me Fall in Love Again” to life. The song is the fourth single to chart from her self-titled second album.

Pickler has earned some stripes, in a figurative sense, with the USO through three tours entertaining American troops stationed in the Middle East and Europe.

Where will Lee be six months from now? Success not guaranteed

Not everyone who finishes in the top three of “American Idol” becomes a Carrie Underwood, a Kelly Clarkson or a Chris Daughtry.

Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks is currently in Cleveland, starring in a touring production of “Grease.” Season 1 third place finisher Nikki McKibbin became a drug addict – a downward spiral she partially attributed to criticism she got from Idol judge Simon Cowell – but got clean in 2008 on VH1’s reality TV show, “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.”

Bowersox back home, faces flood of activities Friday

The Village Idiot’s phone rang off the hook. And a little church in the middle of nowhere, by simple word-of-mouth advertising, suddenly became the epicenter of Ohio’s hottest T-shirt sales for a day.

Strange things happen, indeed, when northwest Ohio is about to be reunited with a starry-eyed woman known for her dreadlocks and an acoustic guitar that Melissa Etheridge autographed for her in Chicago.

A 24-year-old woman who also, incidentally, appears to have won over America with her Janis Joplin-meets-Bonnie Raitt vocal chops.

Bucky Covington – One of the country’s newest idols

It’s hard to separate Bucky Covington from “American Idol.” The country singer landed in the final eight on season five. But it’s the North Carolinian’s talent and engaging personality (“Yes ma’am”) that landed him at the top of a new generation of country artists in 2007 with his self-titled debut album.

That album opened at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and produced three hit singles: “A Different World, ” “I’ll Walk” and “It’s Good to Be Us.” It had the best first-week sales and highest Top 200 debut for any male country artist in 15 years

Ryan Seacrest vs. TMZ

“American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest dared TMZ on his radio show to find a VHS tape of him as a kid dressed as a rock star singing Bon Jovi … well, it was as easy for us as it was humbling for him.

‘Idol’ competitors on the bill at Great Adventure

Over the last few years, the TV show “American Idol” has become less of a singing competition and more of a popularity contest.

Middle-of-the-road singers like David Cook and Kris Allen have won out over enormous talents like Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta.

But both types of artists will be represented tonight at Six Flags Great Adventure, when Iraheta opens for Allen in the Northern Star Arena on Route 537 in Jackson.

Ann Powers: Who needs movies when you have real life?

Music, as mentor Jamie Foxx stated near the start of Tuesday’s “Idol” throwdown, provides the soundtrack to our lives. It also usually does so for movies. But that little detail didn’t seem to matter much to our Top Four, whose song choices Tuesday night reflected little thought about how a song can feed a film’s drama (or comedy) or whether others may have gained greater meaning from a connection with a cinema classic.

Concert review: Daughtry

EDMONTON — So – is Daughtry a band or a lead singer with a group of hired guns?

Does it really matter? For those enamoured of the lead vocalist and songwriter Chris Daughtry’s meat and potato hard rock it shouldn’t, though there are indications in his group’s Rexall set on Thursday night that they might actually be classified as an actual band.

It’s more in the playing than in the songs, which are barely indistinguishable from Daughtry’s influences, whether Nickleback, Live, Fuel, or any number of other post-grunge bands. The North Carolina native has the formula down pat, with tunes like No Surprise, It’s Not Over, Home and Feels Like Tonight carefully honed to friendly, commercial hard rock standards.
