Season 9’s Final 4 meet the press, look to the finish line and beyond

For the first time in “American Idol” history, the Final 4 came together to meet the press Friday morning. From the “Idol” stage, Casey James, Lee DeWyze, Crystal Bowersox and Michael Lynche answered a slew of questions addressing all sorts of topics, from their friendships to their home lives to the kinds of albums they’d like to make. As for what kind of impression they left? Casey was his usual bouncy self. Crystal, wearing the Stevie Nicks-inspired lace top she picked up earlier in the season, showed a softer side when speaking of her “big man and little man.” Lee DeWyze got his point across: that he’s in it to win it. And Michael Lynche wins the media-savvy award for delivering his share of quotable sound bites. Read on for a full transcript (edited for clarity, repetition and brevity).

There’s a ‘science’ to picking an American Idol

One Idol website has come up with a scientific formula — based on online buzz and heartthrob factor — that predicted this week’s loser. Meanwhile, the pundits, the pollsters, the wonks, the pranksters, the Dial-Idol types and the political campaigners all got it wrong.

They picked Casey James, the 27-year-old Fort Worth, Tex. guitar picker whose favourite singer is Doyle Bramhall II to go home from American Idol this week, after James’ cover Tuesday of Frank Sinatra’s Blue Skies didn’t exactly fill the judges, or the online pundits, with sunshine.

Sparks show now open to minors

After months of being told no, people younger than 21 now may attend the Jordin Sparks concert on Friday, May 14, at the Mississippi Moon Bar in the Diamond Jo Casino.

“This show is unique in that Sparks appeals to so many age groups, ” said Scott Thomas, entertainment manager at the Mississippi Moon Bar. “Since she is such a superstar and is not likely to return to this area soon, we’ve decided to permit young adults into the concert.”

The elimination of the age restriction was announced less than a day after the Telegraph Herald printed an article about teenagers who were upset that they couldn’t attend the concert.
