Skylar Laine Was James Durbin’s ‘Pick’ To Win ‘American Idol’ – “I’m disappointed. She was my pick to win,” he said. “She actually has stage presence. She puts on a show. That’s what I try to do as much as possible, that’s what I evoke, and that’s what inspires me. And that was cool to see for her genre. OFFSTAGE: CMT Listen Up: Casey James – Casey James was raised in Texas in a community called Cool. And that pretty much tells his entire story right there. He is cool. To the core. You can see so in the latest CMT Listen Up performance he did a few weeks ago at the 12th & Porter club in Nashville. James’ bluesy-country songs and soulful voice are the same as they were when he made it to the top three on American Idol two years ago when Lee DeWyze won. – Read more at CMT

Unpacking the audible divide between country’s solo women and men – For a while now, the dominant image of country radio’s target listener has been the suburban soccer mom, the presumption being that tender male balladeers are what it takes to keep her tuning in while she runs errands in her SUV. Here’s one problem with that idea: There’s not all that big of a gender disparity in the country audience, and poll results presented at this year’s Country Radio Seminar back this up. Women are in the majority, but not by much. What’s more, the musical impulses that are showing up in country right now don’t break down along gender lines the way you might think. – Read more at Nashville Scene
