‘Idol’ chit-chat with Langseth and Carlson

They embraced like two long-lost pals who hadn’t seen each other since they were in the foxhole together.

OK, “American Idol” isn’t exactly a frontline battle, but only contestants can truly understand what it’s like to compete on the show. Hence, Jesse Langseth and Casey Carlson greeted each other with a special hug when they met for the first time since getting eliminated in February.

New Music: Miley Cyrus As Hannah Montana And David Archuleta – I Wanna Know You

Uneven duets are a real drag. You know, the kind where one singer obviously owns the other vocally? Yeah ¦ So unhot. I just knew thatd be the case when I heard that season 7 American Idol runner-up and one of Neon Limelight top five male vocalists of 2008 David Archuleta would be teaming up with Disney darling Miley Cyrus for a vocal match-up on Cyrus hit show Hannah Montana. Not that Im completely anti-Miley voice, it just Miley and David? Embarrassment on the horizon!

The Week That Was

Rat Pack Night delivered what was probably the strongest set of performances of the season. I thought Adam Lambert and Allison were the best, with Kris Allen not far behind. Others loved Danny Gokey. Not to be outdone, the results show featured plenty of fireworks. A food fight escalated, and the Gokester got stuck with the bill.

The biggest development was Adam Lambert’s unexpected trip to the bottom three, along with Kris, also making his first appearance in the danger zone. The results were surprising — but far from SHOCKING — and suggest the presumed front-runner is more vulnerable than previously thought. (There’s plenty of reasons to believe Adam had the second-lowest vote tally, though others remain unconvinced.) Matt Giraud, this week’s eliminated contestant, made the most of his extra time on the Idol stage. Hard to ask much more of a guy who America wanted gone two weeks ago. The Judges’ Save turned out to be nothing more than a gimmick that the producers used to create some drama in the middle portion of the finals, something I figured going in. It’s clear anyone who benefits from it won’t be able to win, which is why I’ll never be on board with the concept.

Confessions of an “Idol” addict

This is my power ranking of the remaining contestants in Season 8 of “American Idol, ” and it will be updated every week. If you disagree with my ranking, by all means use the comments area to share your own.

This is my perception of the a given singer’s potential to win the competition. It’s not my personal ranking.

1. (Last week: 1) Adam Lambert (Hollywood, Calif.) ‘ Don’t let his placement in the bottom three this week fool you — his fans will rally and make sure it doesn’t happen again. It is interesting to note, though, that neither David Cook nor David Archuleta were ever in the bottom two or three last season (until the final three). Videos.

‘Idol’ sensation showed promise on local stage

When …American Idol judges Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson announced on …The Tonight Show that former San Diegan Adam Lambert was likely to be one of this season’s top two finalists, they were getting a little ahead of themselves. After all, that was in March and the …Idol finale wouldn’t air until May 20.

But for theater producer Kathie Urban, the judges’ predictions of greatness were about 18 years late. Urban has known Adam Lambert would be big news since he was a little boy.
