Top 5 iTunes Performance Review – Everyone’s a Winner

Each of this week’s iTunes performances have something good to offer, to varying degrees.   I might suggest downloading them all, if it’s within your budget.

  • Kris Allen – …The Way You Look Tonight – What Kris lacks in vocal power, he makes up in nearly every other department. Phrasing, phrasing, phrasing!   What a beautiful interpreter of songs, Kris is.   Standards are not his genre, but he’s still found a way to connect. –   iTunes
  • Allison Iraheta – …Some One To Watch Over Me – The story goes Allison never heard this song before she chose it. Yet, she interprets it like an old pro. As some have pointed out, she needs to watch her enunciation. But that’s minor next to her vocal skills.   She’s so good, she could make an album of this stuff – iTunes
  • Matt Giraud – …My Funny Valentine – Damn it Matt.   Why couldn’t you sing on the Idol stage like you do in the studio?   Nearly everyone one of his Idol performances were overcooked, but here, he tackles jazz with skill.   The runs, the scatting, the reach into his falsetto, his phrasing…all original and spot on. Sigh. – iTunes
  • Danny Gokey – …Come Rain or Come Shine” – I’m not a fan of Danny’s flemmy vocals, but when I’m not thinking “clear your throat Danny!” I’m actually liking this. So kill me now? Danny’s learning not to barrel his way through every song he sings.   iTunes
  • Adam Lambert – …Feeling Good – Adam’s amazing vocal control always blows me away. The way he effortlessly moves from his chest to his head voice, his intricate phrasing, his power. Wow.   I liked his live performance, but love the recording. He hits the big note, but no need to showboat on a recording, right? The way he moves through his vocal range in that moment is impressive enough for me.   I’m definitely feeling this. –   iTunes
