‘American Idol’ contestant Matt Giraud and Tulip Time officials issue dueling statements about canceled concert
HOLLAND — “American Idol” finalist Matt Giraud and Tulip Time officials released dueling statements late Friday, each blaming the other, after the entertainer’s May 1 show at the festival had to be canceled when contract negotiations fell apart.
After more than a day of questions about whether Tulip Time had a valid contract for Giraud’s show, festival officials posted a press release on their website Friday, stating Giraud’s concert had been canceled “for reasons beyond the control of the Festival.”
Tulip Time blamed Giraud’s management for the cancellation, saying “he is unwilling to perform the concert for the compensation that had been offered.”
But sources close to Giraud claim Tulip Time jumped the gun, announcing and advertising a concert it never had a contract for.
Giraud echoed those sentiments in a release on his website Friday night.

‘Idol’s’ biggest charmers
A confession: Tim Urban charmed me. Some, like L.A. Times music critic Ann Powers, might call it pointed manipulation, but I’ve met the kid and there’s not a deceitful bone in his happy-go-lucky body. To the contrary, Tim is a gentleman. He was home-schooled and raised right. He doesn’t swear, says gosh instead of God, and good performance or bad, his eternally optimistic outlook never diminished. In fact, it was contagious. So in honor of his recent exit, and because the bushy-haired comeback kid reminded me of getting-to-know-you moments with a few “American Idol” favorites, here’s my top five picks for “Idol’s” biggest charmers. (Surprisingly, they’re not all from the South.)

`American Idol’ limps along, missing Paula Abdul and trying to recapture its ratings magic
What if a popular-but-sagging show floated a juicy rumor, and nobody cared?
The rumor is that “American Idol” producers reached out to see if ex-judge Paula Abdul might return. She bailed before the start of the current and ninth season, and was replaced by Ellen DeGeneres.
The unconfirmed rumor bounced around a few days — mostly rehashed by a few bottom-feeding gossip blogs — before Abdul’s camp denied it.
4/28: Interview with Chris Daughtry, set for Glendale
The dreaded sophomore slump? It’s no worry for Chris Daughtry and the band that bears his name.
Their self-titled 2006 debut sold more than 4 million albums. Last year’s follow-up “Leave This Town” may not be another sales monster, but it has earned platinum certification and sits comfortably on the Billboard charts.
“There were certainly label people that were worrying, ” Daughtry says dryly. “We just wanted to write the best stuff we could. We certainly have high hopes, and we felt good when we saw the (sales figures). But we’re not expecting it to sell 5 million copies like that last one. There’s no telling what it’s gonna do.”
Review: Carrie Underwood proves one of the finest singers in any genre at Van Andel concert
GRAND RAPIDS — Other than being inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, being named Entertainer of the Year would probably be country music’s highest honor.
Country superstar Carrie Underwood holds both of those distinctions and in her triumphant return to the Van Andel Arena Friday night, the 2005 American Idol winner demonstrated just why she is deserving of her countless industry awards.
It’s been two years since the 27-year-old Oklahoma native last performed at the arena. And while she was already a superstar back then, Underwood’s popularity has continued to skyrocket with prestigious honors that include the coveted Entertainer of the Year Award from the Academy of Country Music for two years running.
Source: ‘DWTS’ is a ‘Whole New Place’ Without Kate
Fancast has learned the crew over at ‘Dancing With the Stars‘ is enjoying the quiet time since Kate Gosselin has been voted off the show. Our ABC insider tells us that the vibe has shifted since Kate departed on Tuesday night.
“It’s a whole new place around the set of DWTS this week! The cast and crew are working in an entirely new environment. Kate wasn’t the problem, it was the drama that followed her. It was like a cloud of energy everyday that changed the dynamics of the cast when they were filming segments. Now that Kate is out, it’s a quieter place to be. It was a media storm when Kate was around, not by her choice, but it was.”

“Glee” fans, rejoice. If you also happen to be a Jennifer Lopez fan, that is. If not, The Dish Rag is sorry in advance.

She told Ellen DeGeneres Friday (Apr. 23) on her talk show, “I sat down with [show creator] Ryan Murphy and we talked about me doing something on “Glee.” We want to. We want to do it.”
