C’mon, would-be Idols, take the leap
It’s nearly May, and just as sure as spring, “American Idol” has entered crisis mode.
We’ve seen this arc before: gifted singers voted off too soon, nerves and exhaustion affecting the rest. But this year, the show also seems to be suffering from the very fixes that only recently proved so promising. The energy-drink jolt that new judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler provided has begun to fade.

8 years after ‘Idol, ‘ Kimberly Caldwell makes first album
It’s taken Kimberly Caldwell eight years to finally commit the musical chops she displayed on “American Idol” to tape.
Unlike every other “Idol” who seemed to exit stage left and go straight into a recording studio — Allison Iraheta, Adam Lambert and David Archuleta are among those who released CDs the same year that they competed — Caldwell dropped off the music map in favor of TV-hosting gigs.
Caldwell, who placed seventh in the same season that gave us Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard, says that she would happily have jumped into the studio if that option had been “readily available” right after she was voted off the reality show.

Yikes. Klaus is like an abusive husband, with all this “No happiness allowed here! Klaus smash!” stuff.
He also has quite the posse. In this scene, we first meet Greta Martin — and as I suspected, she’s not exactly being held against her will as Luka and Dr. ManWitch thought. “Hello, love, ” she purrs. Great casting here with “American Idol” alum Lisa Tucker.

Mark Burnett, Simon Cowell – TV friends or competitors?
Mark Burnett’s The Voice hits NBC this Tuesday. Simon Cowell’s The X Factor comes to Fox this fall. So do the two reality gurus, who happen to be friends off-screen, arm-wrestle over TV dominance?
“It would be gauche for either of us to be competitive in a negative way, ” says Burnett. “Simon is amazing and has literally changed talent shows in the world of television.”

Jennifer Hudson: Simon Cowell Is Missed From American Idol

The 29-year-old American Idol alum thinks the show this year has transitioned well and loves Steven Tyler, but added, “Of course Simon [Cowell] is missed. I mean, Simon is like 75% of the judging panel. Everyone wants to know what he’s thinking.”
