Idol Headlines for 04/12/11 – The Evening Edition

Which American Idol Winner Is Blasting Pia Toscano Elimination?

“Hopefully, it galvanizes Pia’s fanbase, ” season seven winner David Cook told me at last night’s Scream 4 premiere. “I think she’s so talented. I think the sky’s the limit for her. She has the opportunity to seize it right now.”

Even so, Cook blasted Toscano’s elimination as “shocking.” “I don’t think it was the right move, ” he said.

Advice for the aspiring singer? “Get whatever sleep you can whenever you could get it, ” Cook said. “I’m still—three years later!—catching up on sleep.”

Cook is set to perform his new single, “The Last Goodbye, ” next week on Idol. His new album drops in June.

‘American Idol’ — We Don’t Discriminate!

The honchos at “American Idol” are scoffing at the claim of an audience member who says she was banished to the back of the studio because she was “just too big, too heavy to be in front.”

Manfred Westphal, who heads up communications for Fremantle (which produces “Idol”), tells TMZ, 19-year-old Ashley Kauffman and her party of 6 were some of the first audience members to arrive for the April 7, 2011 show. Westphal says, “Our audience coordinator explained they had 6 great seats on the floor; however, the seats were in 2 groups of 3.”

Westphal says Kauffman and her party agreed to be split up. And, Westphal says, contrary to Kauffman’s allegation, she was not sent alone to the back of the studio. Westphal says Kauffman and 2 others in her party were seated 4 rows behind their friends, “directly in camera shot, in some of the best seats in the house.”

Idoloonies: Making Sense of Pia’s Exit, Producer Tricks, Voting Flaws, and Judges’ Guilt on Idol

It was the shock boot heard ’round the world: When Pia Toscano was sent to a ninth place finish on season 10 of American Idol, the bulk of the Idoloonie Nation — David Cook, Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson, and even Tom Hanks included — shook their fists and shouted “Why the Face?”

In the wake of the New York-based balladeer’s exit, my cohost (Season 8 Idol finalist Alexis Grace) and I sat down to do a post-mortem on the sad, surprising, and sometimes rage-inducing proceedings during Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Week.

Five (new) Questions with Pia Toscano

While I understand the reasons behind it, watching Pia Toscano do her post-elimination interviews was a bit like the “American Idol” version of “Groundhog Day.”

Did you expect to be eliminated? Why is there this bias against women? Do you have a record contract with Interscope? When will you put out a solo CD? Are you dating Mark Ballas?

So instead of retreading this well-worn territory, I thought it high time to ask Pia five different questions when PopWrap met up with her backstage after a taping of MTV’s The Seven.

Pia Toscano Says: I’d Love To Be On ‘Dancing With The Stars!’

Pia Toscano might not have been busting out moves on the American Idol stage but she’s ready to show the world she can break it down! HollywoodLife.com spoke to the 22-year-old New York native at MTV’s The Seven on April 11 and she was ecstatic when we asked if she’d be willing to jump over to ABC and compete on Dancing with the Stars!

“I’m totally open to Dancing with the Stars, ” she says. “That would be really fun because I’m a huge fan of the show so I’d definitely love to that!”

Hmm … we wonder if this has anything to do with her reportedly dating DWTS ballroom dancer Mark Ballas?

Aerosmith rocker promises debauched memoirs

(Reuters) – Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler will publish his memoirs worldwide on May 3, promising to share “all the unexpurgated, brain-jangling tales of debauchery, sex & drugs, transcendence & chemical dependence you will ever want to hear.”

His book, “Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?, ” comes out at a time when the 63-year-old singer’s job as a judge on TV show “American Idol” is winning him new, younger fans who may not be familiar with his sordid past.

It will be published by News Corp’s HarperCollins, the firm said on Tuesday.
