@AmericanIdol: “Spending some quality time with our BRAND NEW GUITARS!!! #gratitude”

Judging the new ‘Idol’ judges: Are they cutting it?

When “American Idol” announced that Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez would be the new judges — joining Randy Jackson and replacing the iconic Simon Cowell, the cipher Kara DioGuardi and the funny but unlamented Ellen DeGeneres — the reception among critics, fans and those in the reality biz was somewhat … well, pitchy.

“I had low expectations, ” said Jeffrey Hayzlett, who appeared for three seasons as a judge on “Celebrity Apprentice” when he was chief marketing officer for Kodak. “I thought Steven was going to be a bad judge.”

But Hayzlett — like many other initial skeptics — has been pleasantly surprised since “Idol’s” 10th season premiered. “It turns out (Tyler) has great substance and style, and he’s not as checked out as people said he was going to be, ” he admitted.

By this time, the Idol Meter has clearly identified the three most vulnerable contestants. If you average the Meter scores of each singer to date, the bottom three are Paul (9), Stefano (44) and Haley (46). Here are some survival tips for the endangered trio, heading into tonight’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performance:

Backstage Interviews at ‘Dancing With the Stars’: Wendy Williams on Her Elimination

“[I’m] relieved, ” Williams exclaimed over her departure. “I’m getting on a jet plane and going back to everything that’s near and dear to me that I’ve neglected personally for this six-week journey. I have a 10-year-old son and any parent knows that 5th grade and being 10 is a child on the brink! I have a 12-year marriage and a talk show that demands my attention, too.”

Asked what she’ll miss about being on the show, Williams cracked, “Craft services!”

And what will she miss about Dovolani? Williams took a long beat before answering: “Umm … there are a number of things I’ll miss about Tony including him asking me to stand [up] straight as I approach osteoporosis.”

Wendy Williams on Dancing With the Stars Elimination: “It’s Good to Conquer Your Fears”

Wendy was in good spirits tonight after the show, mostly because she saw surviving a grueling six weeks an accomplishment in itself. “It’s good to conquer your fears. So to survive these three weeks and then get eliminated tonight, I’m not disappointed, ” she tells us. “I wish the judges could have scored us better. But on the other hand, I have another life to get back to. A full family and a talk show that I’ve just neglect for the past six weeks doing this.”

She also reveals that she’s been talking to her DWTS costars about stopping by The Wendy Williams Show. “Everyone will come on by, ” she promises with a smile.

Ryan Seacrest, The New King of Reality TV

Last year, before the NBCUniversal-Comcast merger was finalized, Ryan Seacrest’s Los Angeles office had become an entertainment war room, with the tireless mogul plotting, if not exactly a takeover, at least a strategy by which his empire would expand.

On a dry-erase board, the most famous public face of Comcast (through its E! network) had listed in one column the many new NBCU channels — NBC, Bravo, USA — that would be more closely available to him post-merger. In another went Comcast’s collection of networks, from E! to G4, a visual reminder of every place where he could sell, repurpose or have a presence once the marriage was complete.
