‘American Idol’ exit Q&A: Thia Megia says she feels ‘devastated, but at the same time, happy’ — EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

If nothing else, Thia Megia says her time on Season 10 of American Idol finally gave her the chance to make her big brother cry. “I spoke to him last night, ” she told EW backstage after Thursday night’s results show. “I actually got him to cry. We haven’t been able to talk as much during the [Idol] experience, just because it’s been so busy.” Thia says she was happy with her choice of Elton John’s melancholy song “Daniel, ” which she dedicated to her brother, but the 16-year-old does note that she can do “so much more than just slower songs and ballads…. In the future, I see me as being my own artist and definitely not a ballad singer!”

‘American Idol’ exit Q&A: Naima Adedapo says she ‘took a huge risk’ by singing reggae — EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

By far the biggest risk-taker of American Idol‘s tenth season, Naima Adedapo knew full well what doing a reggae twist on Elton John’s “I’m Still Standing” could mean for her chances on the show. “I can’t say I was really surprised by the outcome, ” she said to EW backstage at CBS Television City after Thursday’s results show. “Because I did take a huge risk putting the reggae song out there. Sometimes people don’t feel the reggae vibe.” So why did she decide to take the risk on such a high-stakes week? “Because reggae is a part of me, ” she replies matter-of-factly. “It’s a part of who I am and a part of my culture. For me, it would’ve been tragic to do an Elton John song just like Elton John and then get cut, versus showing who I am creatively as an artist and getting cut happy about the choice that I made.”

Exclusive: Head to Toe with Jennifer Hudson

So when Jennifer recently stopped by our offices here in the heart of Times Square, we thought she’d be a perfect candidate for our recurring style series, Head to Toe. “I put my outfits together today knowing that music is business, too, so I’m giving you a little business today, ” the self-described supermodel-slash-business-lady explained to us in the video footage that you’ll see below. Her best piece of advice, though, is an oldie but a goodie: “Don’t let the clothes wear you, you wear them.”

Carrie Underwood Is ‘Loving’ New ‘American Idol’ Panel

“I am loving the judges, ” Underwood said. “I know Simon [Cowell] was always such a huge part of the show, but if I had just started watching now, I wouldn’t miss it, you know what I mean? I think Steven [Tyler] and J.Lo are doing such an amazing job. I actually got the chance to talk to Steven Tyler, and I was like, ‘I’m finding out that I like you more than I thought I did.’ ”

Underwood said she liked the Aerosmith frontman before he joined the show, but she’s enjoying seeing a softer side of his rock-star persona.

“I’ve always liked Steven Tyler the artist, but as a person, he’s really coming across [as] charming and warm and friendly and encouraging, ” she said. “Of course we always knew that J.Lo is sweet and beautiful, and she’s just confirming all of our previous thoughts about her by being on the show. I’m really enjoying watching it.”

Some things, Liv Tyler doesn’t need to know

Steven Tyler’s Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?: A Rock ‘n’ Roll Memoir hits stores May 3. But Liv Tyler says she hasn’t read it. Nor has she read her mother Bebe Buell’s Rebel Heart: An American Rock ‘n’ Roll Journey, which came out nearly a decade ago. “And I don’t want to read them. I know that’s not very nice, ” she concedes.

Liv had an unusual childhood. Until she was about 9, she lived with Buell and believed musician Todd Rundgren was her father. Then she went to an Aerosmith concert and met Tyler and his daughter Mia. Liv noticed that she and Mia looked somewhat alike.
