Nicki Minaj Says It Takes ‘Guts,’ ‘Heart’ to Compete on ‘American Idol’ (Video) – Asked if she was starting out today, would she try out for Idol, X Factor or The Voice, the “Super Bass” singer said matter-of-factly, “No, I wouldn’t. Carrie Underwood finds “real things” to sing about – “I feel like so many people get stuck. They write, they get songs together, they make an album, they go on tour. Then they do it all over again. I just wanted to change things up. I can’t have stuff to write about if I don’t have a life,” Underwood told Reuters. The singer says taking that time off allowed her to remember what it’s like to be normal. “So much happens when you’re just in your celebrity bubble, and I don’t want to be in that bubble. It’s fun sometimes, but for your heart and for you as a person, you need to step away and be real so you’ll have real things to write about and real things to sing about,” she said. – Read more at Reuters

Carrie Underwood, ‘Good Girl’ – Lyrics Uncovered – “I was out [in L.A.] working on projects with Chris,” Gorley tells Taste of Country. “Carrie happened to be out there, and Carrie’s management team had an idea for the three of us to all get together to write. I had written with Carrie and Chris several times separately, but never together. We all thought it would be a great combination, and turns out we were right!” “Chris started an instrumental track, very uptempo with a great guitar lick,” he continues. “Carrie and I were tossing lyrics and melodies back and forth, and settled on ‘Good Girl’ as a title. We liked it because ‘Good Girl’ sounded like a sweet song, and it really contrasted with the music we had going. We liked the idea of people seeing the title and then being surprised once they heard the song.” – Read more at Taste of Country
