Kris Allen Lands in Rwanda

After a delay in Chicago, and a day in Belgium, Kris Allen has finally landed in Rwanda. He’s there with TOMS shoes to distribute 35, 000 pairs of shoes to those who need them.

Kris tweeted last night, “Woke up in Rwanda. Watched the sunrise and some big birds walk around right next to me. Think Im falling in love with this place already.”

Abdul Will Not Replace Lopez in Broadway’s In the Heights

A spokesperson for the Broadway production of In the Heights told Playbill.com March 26 that pop singer Paula Abdul will not make her Broadway debut in that Tony Award-winning musical.

On March 25 Radar Online reported that Abdul would take over the role of Camila, currently portrayed by Tony nominee and original cast member Priscilla Lopez (A Chorus Line).

“There is no plan for her to come into the show at this point, ” the representative said. “We’re thrilled that she came and saw the show.” Reports that Abdul had been in discussions with producers and members of the creative team are also untrue, according to the spokesperson.

Does Magnus have a game plan?

Don’t expect a repeat of Siobhan Magnus’s signature vocal pyrotechnics on next week’s “American Idol.’’ Magnus, the 20-year-old Cape Codder with the enormous voice, has already clinched a Top 10 slot. Checking in Friday by phone from Los Angeles, she told us she wasn’t surprised the show’s judges warned her about becoming a one-note wonder. “I knew it before they said it, ’’ said Magnus, preparing to rehearse for Tuesday’s show. “Honestly, I expected them to say I couldn’t do that on every song and have that become my gimmick.’’ Her main goal in recent weeks has been to make the “Idol’’ summer tour, she said, so she can now set her sights a little higher. “You can’t think too much about what the judges might say and have that affect your performance, ’’ Magnus continued. “But next week I’d better do something different.’’

Katie Stevens ‘having a blast’ in Hollywood

The Hollywood life has been a frantic combination of rehearsals, picking out wardrobe, and well, high school for Middlebury “American Idol” contestant Katie Sevens.

But it’s all worth it.

“I’m very busy all the time. It’s crazy, ” Stevens told the Republican-American during a telephone interview Friday. “We’re always doing something, but I’m having a blast.”

‘Idol’ Power Rankings: Top 10

Someone in our weekly live “Eye on Idol” chat this week suggested the show get rid of all the remaining contestants and just let Crystal Bowersox and Siobhan Magnus duke it out week after week until the finale.

I’m starting to warm up to that idea.

It was clear to pretty much everyone that either Paige Miles or Tim Urban would be going home this week — and that was even before Ryan Seacrest said the words, “This is ‘American Idol’” on Tuesday night. In a season that seems to be offering relatively little talent, Paige and Tim were clearly at the bottom of the heap and their performances further supported that notion on Tuesday.

“Idol” Alum Keeps His Cool on Long-Awaited Debut

NEW YORK (Billboard) – It’s been two years since Jason Castro ambled onto “American Idol” — ukulele, dreadlocks, stoner vibe and all. And while most of those voted off the show from seasons past have faded into obscurity or drifted into musical theater, Castro, who finished fourth, hasn’t been easily forgotten.

Nor has his personality changed, which became clear as soon as he was asked about his upcoming solo album.

“I’ll tell you right after this burp, ” he said, somehow charmingly, during a recent visit to Billboard’s New York office. “I just had some amazing barbecue on the way over here. Sorry, but it’s definitely giving me the heartburn.”

Maksim Chmerkovskiy says he and ‘Dancing with the Stars’ partner Erin Andrews are ‘maybe’ dating

Erin Andrews wowed judges with her cha-cha during last week’s “Dancing with the Stars” premiere, but it looks like she danced straight into partner Maksim “Maks” Chmerkovskiy’s heart.

Chmerkovskiy says that he and the ESPN sportscaster are “maybe” dating, according to Hollywoodlife.com.

“She does not hold back. She’s open, and what you see is what there is, ” Chmerkovskiy told People magazine. “Everybody who meets her falls in love with her.”

Catching up with Nick Mitchell (aka Norman Gentle)

Nick Mitchell is still working up to his 15 minutes. When he ambushed the Season 8 “American Idol” auditions as his alter ego, Norman Gentle, belting “Dreamgirls'” “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” like nobody’s business, he clocked in at around five. Making the Top 36 earned him another third. And now, with a recurring segment dishing “Idol” on the nationally syndicated “The Wendy Williams Show, ” well, you could say he’s finally made it.

  1. How are the S9 idols able to talk to media? Was it always like this, or has it changed now, and Siobhan and Katie are talking to newspapers? Weird.

  2. I like Kat as a red head, I just don’t like the cut.

How many things are going to keep popping up for Paula and then fall through? I’m starting to think she is a monster to negotiate with.

  3. Yay for Adam being #1 again! I can’t believe it. I kinda forgot to vote this week with so much Adam goodies going on but I guess he didn’t need my help, LOL! Can someone explain why Jim Shearer does not show Kris’ complete LLWD video only a part of it? This is the second time I have seen him do that.

  4. How many things are going to keep popping up for Paula and then fall through? I’m starting to think she is a monster to negotiate with.

Try watching some of that reality show she did (Hey, Paula). You will no longer suspect she’s a monster to deal with, you will know it.

  6. Jason Castro continues to impress me- I seriously think he is probably one of the most underrated of the idols. His new song That’s What I’m Hear For sounds like a cross between Dylan and Guthrie, and I love how he released a more acoustic version of Let’s Fall In Love Again because that song was too overproduced for the single. If anyone was driven nuts by the whistling in the beginning, the acoustic is so much better. I hope he tours near where I live, I’d go see him in a heartbeat.

I heard that Tedder demo. Makes me want to hear All The Right Moves sung by Adam. I always thought Tedder had a good voice until I heard him sing this.

ETA: I hope WWFM can hang in there on POP. He has one more song to pass it ( Break Your Heart) and then no more competition from behind. Hopefully his spins can pick back up, but if not, HAC and AC are looking good- all I care about is Billboard anyway. After looking at the radio charts for the past few months and songs like Sexy Chick and According To You being a complete waste of radio spins, I have come to a sort of personal conclusion that Billboard is what really matters. And of course sales.

This is an incredible update. I thought that the climb on AC tended to be slow!

  8. I think WWFM might end up #13 next sunday on POP (if it doesn’t start free falling)… Bad Romance and ATY are dropping and Taoi are coming strong from behind. Still get the feeling the song is a bit on life support on POP.

The HAC updates are great though… With updates like this WWFM will enter top10 in 2-3 weeks.

  9. That’s awesome that Adam and Kris are top 20 in 3 formats! Can’t wait to hear Adam sing WWFM on Idol soon! I also can’t believe he’s #1 again on VH1. So cool!!!!

  10. Danny’s MBD video is #1 this week at CMT Pure, #7 on GAC, and #18 on the big CMT channel’s Top 20 countdown which is not audience-voted, or not entirely anyway. His interview with CMT Top 20 should air next time.

Apparently it was the case last night about the huge turnout at Danny’s Jacksonville open air concert. Fox 30-associated twitter just said the same thing, and Danny’s keyboard player thought it was ~7500.

From one of the country station DJs. I’d be curious how many people showed for the other ~3 or so concerts in their series, but guess there’s no way to know. Seems like Danny & band had an awesome time.

Danny Gokey & Steel Magnolia were soooooo good last nite@ the landing! Don’t forget this Friday 4 FREE Randy Houser & Emily West. Showtime 8

  11. Congrats to Adam for WWFM being #1 on VH1 again! Go bb!

Kuddos to Kris for being in Rwanda and helping out!

About that Ryan Tedder Sleepwalker demo-
Geez- it was a little strange, wasn’t it? There was a totally different lyric (b section is it called?) instead of “I can’t turn this around, I keep running into walls, etc…”, and then there was another completely new (old) verse where today it’s just a badass guitar solo…

Hmmm, maybe this was his version before he met Aimee Miyo (spelling?) and her hubby…

I can’t no wait to watch Adam doing the 3 presentations on the same nignt on Idol !!!:)

That is a great turnout. Hope he has a big turnout tonight again; tickets are $21-$100 so not sure if it will sell out. He’s doing so many concerts at different size venues its hard to keep up.

Hope he is not exhausted by the time I get to see him early May with Sugarland!

  14. Great Turnout for Danny Very happy for him. Country folk seem to be very loyal and love their concerts. :-)

Adam #1 again…..what I think is an interesting fact is this is his 5th time at #1 and none of those where consecutive weeks. Pretty impressive. All 5 times were for WWFM but 3 for the original video and the last 2 for the Acoustic version. (has anything like this been done before?) VH1 have both versions up to vote on. I guess they only count the one that has the higher position. I can’t help but think that both would make the top 20. Maybe not.

Love the red on Katherine much better then the blonde. I love her original color the best. She is a beautiful woman.

Kris…..Great musical artist and great humanitarian. (oh and next single now please)

It wasn’t anything against Kris, it happesns to a few videos everyweek. Usally 1 in the 10-20 and 1 in the top 10. There just isn’t enough time to show all the videos so a few get just clips. I think #4 almost always gets shortened.

  16. Danny’s drummer weighing in, I didn’t realize he was with them this time. He’s only done certain dates so far, maybe he’ll be playing with the band more often now that the Sugarland tour is getting closer (starting May 6th for Danny).

  20. I can’t no wait to watch Adam doing the 3 presentations on the same nignt on Idol !!!:)

3 presentations on the same night on Idol? I don’t know what this means….

  21. Lorismile

Yeah, I don’t understand what that post means, either. Adam won’t be singing 3 songs on Idol…at least not on the same episode

  22. I think lorismile is talking about maybe being presented with a plaque for his gold and platinum albums like that have done with the other Idols when they come back….or I could be completely wrong hahaha

  23. Gee wiz I forgot to vote on VH1 until yesterday afternoon and then only a few times. His fans are really stepping up on the show. I wonder too if this has happened in the past…3 times number 1 but not consecutively. I thing it’s amazing. The dj mentioned too how popular Adam’s VH1 unplugged was on their website. I swear I heard it was going to be televised finally the first part of April. Anyone else hear this?

  24. The dj mentioned too how popular Adam’s VH1 unplugged was on their website. I swear I heard it was going to be televised finally the first part of April. Anyone else hear this?

Last I heard they will televise the whole session on April 9th.

  25. I like Kat with the red/auburn hair too. I don’t mind the cut.

I agree with the latest Season 9 Power Rankings. Siobhan lost a lot of points with me when she said if she could she’d scream sing the whole song. I seriously hate it. It’s what turned me off from Adam last year. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

I think 90% of the Paula buzz is her being coy and letting people assume things that have no basis in fact. I think Paula cut her nose off to spite her face long ago. Phone is going to stop ringing.

Yay and congrats again to Adam, Kris, and Daughtry. It will be great for Kris to hit the 20 week mark. ALso grats to Kris being #10 on the Top 40 Countdown on Ryan’s show.

  26. It wasn’t anything against Kris, it happesns to a few videos everyweek. Usally 1 in the 10-20 and 1 in the top 10. There just isn’t enough time to show all the videos so a few get just clips. I think #4 almost always gets shortened.

    Besides, it’s time for a new video/single. ;)

On Adam’s WWFM, is this a different vid for the same song? I’m confused. TIA. :D

  27. On Adam’s WWFM, is this a different vid for the same song? I’m confused. TIA.

Yes back during the weekend of the Kradison concert Adam filmed and Unplugged set for VH1 which they posted online a few weeks ago. They made the unplugged version of WWFM avaiable for the Top 20 countdown.

  28. I don’t know why people keep talking about plaque presentations to kris and Adam during their ai appearances. I have never seen them give a plaque for a single (regardless of whether gold or platinum) or a plaque for a gold album. Iirc they have only given plaques for platinum albums on the show. So while Ryan may
mention that llwd went platinum or that fye cd went gold or platinu
in several countries or that wwfm went gold (and will likely be 100-200k from plat at time of appearance) I would be shocked if there were any plaque presentations

  29. Great Turnout for Danny Very happy for him. Country folk seem to be very loyal and love their concerts.

I never cared for Danny on the show but I’m happy to see him succeed. I may be out to lunch on this one, but I think it’s much easier to get recognition in the country music world…it’s a different mindset altogether than other genres. I remember on the show Danny saying that country wasn’t the way for him (or did I dream that?). At any rate, he’s finding himself with country so all is well. Still not my cuppa though.

  30. mmb
People just want the world to know how well their favorites are doing. There is no harm in them hoping that their guys get some recognition on their Idol appearance. I don’t think they will do a plaque presentation either I am just excited to see Adam go back and sang his face off :)

  31. Thanks smeggingnuts! :D Is the other one still available for voting? That’s pretty cool for the unplugged WWFM.

DC got a plaque last year for his platinum album or LO(?), last year when he appeared on AI.

ETA: I guess it was the album then.

  32. Smeggingnuts. Oh I am completely psyched for Adams ai performance and hope they give him agreat package touting his accomplishments. I just don’t think they will be doing any plaque presentations

  33. I may be out to lunch on this one, but I think it’s much easier to get recognition in the country music world…it’s a different mindset altogether than other genres. I remember on the show Danny saying that country wasn’t the way for him (or did I dream that?).

I think this is a common misconception; Country can be very cliquish and there are a lot of country snobs (especially these days when pop a la Taylor Swift is infusing the country world) who reject anything not traditional. There is definitely an “insider” track, and new artists always do a very tedious radio tour (I know the other Idols have visited some; but Danny has trekked to over 90 stations to build rapport and get them to even play his song). Yes, once they accept you, they can be quite loyal. But; if you stray, (like Dixie Chicks and to some extent Gretchen Wilson who didn’t kowtow to radio stations enough) you will be blacklisted.

Yes, you did dream that about Danny saying that, lol. That was Michael Sarver. And I believe Kris also mentioned Country was not for him. Danny never did.

  35. I don’t know why people keep talking about plaque presentations to kris and Adam during their ai appearances. 36. cookcricket
yes both are still up for voting but (this is just my personal speculation) I think that they only show the version of WWFM that got the most votes. Cuz I am guessing that the people power voting are voting for both. I have a sneaking suspition that both would be on the Top 20..lol or I could just be talking out my butt.

    mmb
yeah I hope the do a really awesome package as well…that would be great

And yeah DC did get a plaque…though he did go platinum (album) in the US and Adam has not. It will interesting to see what they do if anything. More than likely they will just have Ryan say that Adam has gone gold in US, NZ, Spore and Platinum in Canada…and here he is singing his gold (hopfully platinum by then) single WWFM…
    But who knows :)

I’m not sure if it’s easier or harder, really, especially for someone like Danny who isn’t a “typical” country singer in superficial ways (no twang, from Milwaukee vs. rural south, etc.). He’s been working his butt off for months now building a foundation to be where he is today, plus having fought through the tough process they all went through to get as far as the top 3 on AI8. Even yesterday, he had a radio interview/performance in the morning, did a tv thing in the morning where he also sang, then did a full concert in the evening–and that’s just what I know of. It’s not uncommon with Danny at all that he’s been doing 3-4 appearances/interviews a day when he’s out on the road, and singing multiple songs at nearly all of them plus any signing sessions, m&g’s, and whatnot.

Danny’s never said anything against considering country music to my knowledge. Kris and Michael Sarver both did have quotes along those lines, Michael coming close to saying he disliked it for the most part except a few exceptions. Can’t find that earlier tour interview, but here is one where MIchael talks about 3 minutes in about how he never listened much to country but is starting to lean to go toward a country album because he is a “country guy” in his background, if not his music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WMjIqBjGgk

I guess they are all free to change their minds. On the show, Danny though was asked about country music by Ryan on air the week he sang What Hurts the Most. THe question was something like whether country was a “safe zone” for Danny, and he said yes and went on to talk further about Rascal Flatts and modern country music in a very favorable way. Danny was also seemingly quite overcome to meet Randy Travis when he was the mentor.

Danny admits it was a voyage of discovery for him to figure out where he fit into the genres of today, but he’s always been open to country and chose country songs as far back as Hollywood Week two months before AI8 even aired. He told an interviewer recently that when he grew up, the secular music in his household was country, Motown, and some jazz. Guess you can see all of those in the song choices he made on AI8.

  38. Yes, you did dream that about Danny saying that, lol. That was Michael Sarver. And I believe Kris also mentioned Country was not for him. Danny never did.

I must have dreamed it too, as well as Danny saying that he didn’t want to make Christian music.

  39. I must have dreamed it too, as well as Danny saying that he didn’t want to make Christian music.

Yes, dreamed the country part, but definitely not the Christian part! Danny had said he didn’t want to only sing Christian music, that he wanted to branch out since Gospel was all he had ever done previously.

He did say he wanted to put one Gospel song on every album; which he has delivered on so far. “I Still Believe” written by Kara DiGuardia is a great head boppin song (and I don’t like CCM at all), and has turned into one of my faves on the album.

  40. Regarding Paula, I think all these “news” items since she left Idol are just to keep her name and face out there so she can appear to be much in demand with many, many options to choose from. But the REAL reason these tidbits are tossed out is for her to look majorly sought after so X Factor can appear to snatch this hot commodity up as the time draws more near for it’s premier. Bottom line, she can’t dare lose too much celebrity before X Factor begins. Gotta keep the folks interested in “what will Paula do”. I see it as all hype.

  41. But the REAL reason these tidbits are tossed out is for her to look majorly sought after so X Factor can appear to snatch this hot commodity up as the time draws more near for it’s premier. Bottom line, she can’t dare lose too much celebrity before X Factor begins.

But I think people keep forgetting X Factor doesn’t start this fall, it starts the following year. That is a long time for Paula to not be doing anything, I don’t think two years after she was let go from idol she would be still viewed as a hot commodity. I think Simon has no real intentions of bringing Paula on to X Factor.

  42. Ok then. If jordon got plaques for her singles and gold album I hope they do the same for adam and Kris

  43. So nice that Kris, Adam, Danny are doing well on the charts.

Re: Jason Castro – I wish AI would have him perform on the show – but it looks that isn’t going to happen according to that article. His EP is good – I really enjoyed several of the songs on it, and he has had good reviews too.

  44. Regarding Katharine McPhee–the auburn hair is much, much better than the blonde.

  45. Re: Jason Castro – I wish AI would have him perform on a show – but it looks that isn’t going to happen according to that article.

I have a theory that the only idols that will be on that stage this year have a 19 on their albums. Last year, they had past idols on to help promote them. This year, because their ratings are reduced from last year, they’ll use established artists (or wildly popular artists like this Justin Bieber, which I completely don’t get) to help promote the show. Otherwise, 19 Recordings would likely want to use the show to promote its own artists. (The kiss off song is by Will Young; he’s with 19R, right?

  46. I think the reason that didn’t so anything for Kris when he was on before (cuz wasn’t his single gold or did it just turn platinum) was they are waiting for the finale. You know they will do it then. It the best time with the most viewers. lol wish Adam could be on the finale too.

  47. Really nice quote from Nick/Norman

Catching up with Nick Mitchell (aka Norman Gentle)

Can you share any early memories of what Adam Lambert was like in those first few weeks?

He was living right next to me during group two of Hollywood Week and I remember him being really nice. Then at the finale when he sang with Kiss at the Nokia theater, I’ve never seen a crowd bow down like that. It was like Janet Jackson on the “Again” tour — it was crazy! People worship him and I wish I could sell T-shirts at his concert but he hasn’t called me back. Please Adam, anything! Seriously though, I think Adam Lambert is the greatest performer out there. What he did on the American Music Awards will change everything for the LGBT community and young kids struggling with acceptance. I think he should be so proud of himself. I’m pretty blown away by that guy.

It will interesting to see what they do if anything. More than likely they will just have Ryan say that Adam has gone gold in US, NZ, Spore and Platinum in Canada…and here he is singing his gold (hopfully platinum by then) single WWFM…
    But who knows

I’m betting that they do mention Adam going gold in the US and perhaps the gold/platinum single. I doubt that they will mention the status in other countires though. They haven’y done that with other Idols, but then again, perhaps because they are trying to promote him internationally they will.

  49. I’m beginning to think someone’s playing a practical joke on Paula, planting these stories about her upcoming “projects” only so they can be debunked the next day. Kind of like when she got punked by Brüno.

  50. lol wish Adam could be on the finale too.

Maybe he will be…. I’ve read here on the blog that the runner-up has not traditionally been included in the finale, but there can always be a first, can’t there? Adam has proven to draw viewers to shows, so they may want to cash in on that. I’m hoping, anyway!

  51. Someone posted yesterday about Norman giving MJ a shout-out on the Wendy Williams show. Anyone have video of that?

I liked I Still Believe when we heard it on one of the acoustic radio tour stops. Found it interesting to hear it last weekend live backed by electric guitar and drums in a big arena (Hampton Coliseum in VA). It makes for a really good tour song, & has strong, almost aggressive drive to it that I really liked for that kind of song. Get Away is another high-energy tour song for Danny.

And yeah, Danny has said repeatedly that he did not wish to go into CCM; he wanted to broaden his horizons and not exclude anyone with his music (so far, so good). There’s often a misperception out there that he had some actual background in CCM, which doesn’t really seem to have been the case. His background was more singing gospel/church music in a church setting, and the few praise & worship songs he recorded as a featured vocalist pre-AI in Nashville.

But they have room for more than one performance per show! So they could have more on if they wanted. I bet they will preference the ones from the previous season and only book the ones they manage plus Kelly, JHud or Jordin beyond that – because like you said, they are very successful and help the brand look good. Perhaps Archie too, but that’s about it.

  54. That was a nice quote from Nick Mitchel/Norman Gentle!

BTW- I LOVED Gentle’s performance of “And I am telling you”… hahah! It cracks me up just thinking of it!
Then again, I’m not really an AI fan, so maybe that explains it…

I guess I love campy, and that’s part of why I will probably always love Adam, no matter how OTT he gets to be… as long as those pipes are workin’- I’m his for life…

  55. I don’t understand how Pauler could even consider broadway, given the physical ailments and chronic pain she is reported to suffer. It is one thing to sit and judge singers or dancers; it is quite another to commit to being on stage 5-7 days a week. It would be nice and within the realm of the do-able if she was on X Factor.

Katherine McPhee’s hair is better “auburn” than blond, but her hair is going to “pull” red until she gets the platinum grown out. That’s what hair does. Her hair looks to be in terrible condition and it was so lovely. Sigh. It looks like she is having it cut at Supercuts or is whacking it herself in the bathroom.

It also seems that year after year, the mentors and guests that have appeared on Idol are less great performers than people who have cds coming out they want to pim…um, sell. There have been many who were not exactly A-list; I don’t really “get” the surprise this year.

  56. I agree with the latest Season 9 Power Rankings. Siobhan lost a lot of points with me when she said if she could she’d scream sing the whole song. I seriously hate it. It’s what turned me off from Adam last year. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should

This is the only reason I watched AI last season, and might get me to tune in this year if she does :)

I doubt that they will mention the status in other countires though. They haven’y done that with other Idols, but then again, perhaps because they are trying to promote him internationally they will.

Have other Idols been promoted Internationally?
And have any been promoted right off the show?

Is #17 LLWD’s peak position on the AC chart?

NGL, Kris’ numbers in Pop scare me. LLWD is dropping like a rock. Are these drastic drops typical in Pop? It’s scary because one week a song can be peaking and the next, it’s nose diving. I know a big drop will happen to WWFM also- I just didn’t know songs fell this fast. I better start preparing myself now for the eventual drop. :)

  58. If you don’t have a song in top 5 on AC, it’s really not even worth mentioning. Number 10 is 500 spins/week right now.
It’s completely normal to drop like a rock on pop radio. Nothing unusual. That’s why it is important to release another single when the old one peaks, because then you can replace those spins quickly with the new one. I hope next week Jive will send another single to radio, his album is diving and it’s unnecessary.

  59. I know many here have said that Danny NEVER said he wasn’t interested in country but I remember him saying that he wanted to dispel any rumor that he was going country. I remember it because there was plenty of speculation at the time…not hearing anything from him and many interested in him and what he was doing. Having said that, does it really matter? It seems like he has gone country and may take off well in this genre. Too soon to tell……he seems *inspired* to do what he is doing! ;)

  60. I know many here have said that Danny NEVER said he wasn’t interested in country but I remember him saying that he wanted to dispel any rumor that he was going country. I remember it because there was plenty of speculation at the time…

I’d be happy to read any article or check out video on that, but the one I remember who expressed quite bluntly at first that he was not country music-oriented was Michael.

Michael looked a little annoyed in one early interview from the AI tour (can’t find a link but somewhere in the southwest swing, possibly). Michael said people just assumed he must be country due to his background/look/accent, but that he considered himself to be R&B. Michael obviously started to evolve his thinking over the course of the tour, fair enough. Until by the time of the video interview I posted above, while Michael was still distancing himself from being a country music fan, he was starting to say that he’d be doing a country-pop album nonetheless. Kris also was a little bit irked that some were assuming he might go country as he had the duet with Keith Urban in the final?

The first time I heard Danny talk in public about considering a country music direction was in late May or early June 2009, when he talked to a radio peep about “modern soul country” as an idea he was exploring. He said that repeatedly most of the summer until he clammed up while his label negotiations were underway. And Danny did four songs by country artists during his run on AI8 starting in Nov 2008, and chose two of his four AI tour songs as country. I don’t think Danny realized for most of that time that country might be the best genre fit for his career, but he was consistently drawn to country songs all along, and did them well.

This is the link to Michael’s September interview. The comments about country music start ~3 minutes in.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WMjIqBjGgk

Even by this late a date, and talking to country radio, his enthusiasm toward country music in general strikes me as pretty ~limited. In the earlier interview, believe he said he didn’t like country music at all as a rule, beyond a couple of individual artists–one of which was Rascal Flatts.

Having said that, does it really matter? It seems like he has gone country and may take off well in this genre. Too soon to tell……he seems *inspired* to do what he is doing!

I don’t think it really much matters. Although as a country music fan, I was a bit put off when I heard Michael’s first comments, I think he has every right to change his mind and try what’s best for his career and to support his family. And for Danny, his background seems to have been limited pretty much to singing for church and family, so I can understand why it took him a while to find his path.

There was a quote I read somewhere from Joe Galante with Sony, which said that the Sony peeps felt early on that Danny could fit well in Nashville and the country scene, but that it was another step to get to the stage where Danny himself could feel comfortable with that vision. I think once Danny realized that he could bring his own vocal style into country, and be accepted while staying as soulful as he’s always been, he saw that it could work. He always seemed to relate well to the country songs & lyrics themselves.

  61. I agree with Nick/Norm with regards to the AMAs and the LGBT community. I think Adam freaked them out and they were afraid of backlash, but I do feel that in the coming years it will, in fact, be a small turning point. It made America come face to face with a sexually charged aggressive gay male performer. It definately resulted in conversations in households all across America. I always found it funny that they thought Adam, with that performance, had set the gay marriage fight back. (of course he could have been joking! You never know with him!)

On another front, Allison’s Scars doesn’t seem to be doing anything. I hope Jive will give her another single but I am having doubts. I also think Kris will get his platinum single plague when he goes on the show. He won’t have a gold album yet and I can’t believe they would have the winner return with no plaque (based on comments here I assume that’s never happened).

Edited to correct a major typo :-) Thanks Kristen!

  62. Danny does country, because it’s the only way music bizz people think he is marketable as a mainstream artist. He’s not pop, rock, urban or alternative. He was left with country, there was no other option for him (apart from christian of course). full stop. good for him! it seems to be working well.

  63. tiger 92- Yes, LLWD peaked on pop, but it had a GREAT run. And yes, this kind of drop is typical. Bad Romance and According To You are dropping even faster. What I don’t understand though is why they haven’t announced Kris’ new song yet.

RE: Scars- there’s another thing that perplexes me. I have an EW magazine sitting here from March 5th and they interviewed the PD at Z100 about what he thought the new up and coming great songs would be, and he named Scars along with Taio Cruz and JLS. Yet they haven’t added her, WTF?

  64. tiger 92- Yes, LLWD peaked on pop, but it had a GREAT run. And yes, this kind of drop is typical. Bad Romance and According To You are dropping even faster. What I don’t understand though is why they haven’t announced Kris’ new song yet.

ITA. It had a great run.I’ve never followed any song on any chart until this year- that’s why I wondered if dropping that fast was typical. Just trying to prepare myself! LOL

  65. Christina Aguilera’s new album will be out in June. Her new single will be out soon, a very dancing song. I wonder if she will guest at AI or maybe the finale. The timing is perfect and she is with RCA (?).

  66. Danny does country, because it’s the only way music bizz people think he is marketable as a mainstream artist. He’s not pop, rock, urban or alternative. He was left with country, there was no other option for him (apart from christian of course). full stop. good for him! it seems to be working well.

Well, any of those are choices. Artists have to figure out where they fit, and very few will be good matches for all the genres. Adam was pretty quick to say he wasn’t cut out to be a country singer, for example ;) And Danny had no illusions that he was cut out for the kind of R&B that is marketable today, or for dance-pop (though I think some other formats could have been worth a try, in the AC vein for ex.).

Working out of Nashville seems the best fit for Danny. It struck me that although he was pretty guarded what he said over the summer before his deal was announced, he was getting really excited about the idea of working with Mark Bright on a country/soul project. So far, it’s turning out well enough with more good things to look forward to as Danny’s first single is still working up the charts, and he has the Sugarland tour kicking into gear in only ~5-6 weeks.

  67. I agree, it was the best option for Danny, if he wants to have a ‘big career’. He could go country or Christian and wisely chose country, because that’s where’s more money.
I actually like the Christina preview, i of course need to hear the whole track, because the chorus is crucial IMO, but i like it so far (unlike lot of people), her voice is simple amazing and the anticipation is definitely there, so i hope she’ll do well.

  68. tiger 92- Yes, LLWD peaked on pop, but it had a GREAT run. And yes, this kind of drop is typical. Bad Romance and According To You are dropping even faster. What I don’t understand though is why they haven’t announced Kris’ new song yet.

I know. I hope they do it next week or they will lose a lot of momentum. If they are going to release a single, why not do it now instead of waiting? It doesn’t cost less if they do it a couple of weeks later. Maybe they have something else they need to push right now. The inner workings of radio stations can be a mystery. Hopefully there is a good reason. Something like he’s going to premier it personally on Z100 and announce some contest to go see him in the Caribbean resort thingy he’s doing. But usually, we still end up scratching our heads after and wondering what the hold-up was.

He won’t have a gold album yet and I can’t believe they would have the winner return with no plague (based on comments here I assume that’s never happened).

I hope Kris doesn’t return with the plague. I know air travel can be a b!tch for communicable diseases, but with any kind of luck at all, he won’t get hit with a bubonic plague outbreak on his flight.

I’m a terrible speller, but sometimes typos are just too hard to resist. Sorry.

To answer the question, I don’t know all the stats, but I do know that Taylor was not given his platinum certification plaque when he returned to the show the next year (he was only invited back for the finale and they gave a 4xplat plaque to Carry instead). So, Kris was not the first.

  69. I have a theory that the only idols that will be on that stage this year have a 19 on their albums.

They’ve already had on Matt and Scott who they did not sign. There has been a dearth of past Idols on the show this year, though.

  70. He won’t have a gold album yet and I can’t believe they would have the winner return with no plague (based on comments here I assume that’s never happened).

hehehehe I probably wouldn’t have resisted either but you beat me to it….lol :)

If you have a link to that interview, I’d love it, thanks. As a Danny fanatic have never heard that one.

I agree, it was the best option for Danny, if he wants to have a ‘big career’. He could go country or Christian and wisely chose country, because that’s where’s more money.

I think Danny chose Country because it fit more with his image, he grew up with it and he could talk about the types of things he wanted to; as well as not exclude fans (which is what he himself said was the main reason). I think industry experts like Sony president Joe Galante and Randy Travis helped him see he didn’t have to change himself at all; just sing great music like he does.

I actually wrote him right after the finale when some were saying he should do CCM, and pleaded with him not to; because his large fan base certainly wouldn’t be all CCM- and selfishly, I don’t listen to CCM!

Judee, I agree with you that it seems to be working well so far for Danny. But only time will tell with all of them. So many Idols come out of the gate strong; only to fade away with the second album, if they get one. I hope he will have a “big career”; I hope they all keep getting to do what they love.

  73. DC got a plaque last year for his platinum album or LO(?), last year when he appeared on AI.

DC got a platinum plaque for TOML on that lame NYE show on Fox. The one he got on AI was for DCTR. LO is certified, but to date no presentation has been made. Maybe they just mailed it to him.

As to KA & AL getting plaques on AI…neither has been certified by RIAA so until that is done (and it can take months for the audit) no plaque will be presented.

  74. Considering all the shots he had to get just to go to Africa (7, according to how many Katy got), Kris better NOT return with the plague!!!! LOL

Anyway, he’s going to be on the finale whether or not they present him with a plaque for LLWD. Same thing with Adam — whenever he appears on Idol, he will do so whether or not he’s presented with a plaque for his album and/or WWFM.Not every returning Idol gets a plaque for something when they return to perform on the show.

Oh, and yoo-hoo, Jive! Time to announce the 2nd single! Just because Kris is in Africa doesn’t mean yiou have to wait to announce it. He can start to promote it when he returns next week. Announcing it a few days before he returns to the US isn’t gonna to be a problem…

Awwwwwwww. He bowls like he plays beer pong and foozball. Which is to say, poorly. :)

  77. Indigobunting, I could not even to begin to produce an interview, video, website, blogsite (although, I am exclusively here!)….to make it the truth that I heard Danny say this. It was not Michael…..no matter what he said about country. I would have to go back at least 10 months and search and as I said , it does not matter enough to me to look. I was innocently just backing up others that have said they heard it…..that is all.
Adam and Kris are my fav but I would never say they never said something because there is no way to know and read every thing they say and do. (that, BTW, was a terrible sentence I just wrote…teehee!)
Anyway, it is all good. I know you and the other *fanatic* fans (your words not mine) are thrilled for Danny. That is what is so fun about this….we all have our likes and dislikes here and are free to express our opinions. Don’t know where I heard it but am just as certain as you are that he never said it. Is this getting as silly for you as it is me talking about this???

  78. First Adam and now Cookie. What is it about the Idols and bowling this week? LOL.

I was wrong though, according to this tweet David is actually a pretty good bowler:

@Nickidev: @thedavidcook most common bowling score is 77 (I looked it up). Anything over is above average. Above 98 is over 90th percentile. Go you! :)

  79. He won’t have a gold album yet and I can’t believe they would have the winner return with no plague (based on comments here I assume that’s never happened).

I don’t think the regular audience care/ take notes if Kris did not get any recognition right then.

I hope Kris doesn’t return with the plague. I know air travel can be a b!tch for communicable diseases, but with any kind of luck at all, he won’t get hit with a bubonic plague outbreak on his flight.

LOL. But, seriously I hope that he and the whole team didn’t catch anything over there. Keep healthy, Kris !

And I can not wait till announcement of Kris new single – next week ?

  80. FYE moved to #1 on Love Fm’s Top 40 in Fukuoka & Kita-Kyushu, Japan.
was at #3 last week :)

  81. I think Danny chose Country because it fit more with his image

I think Danny decided to go country because that was the only option being given to him by one of the Sony labels, which was evident by the fact that 19 allowed his contract to run out. That action made it clear that it was either going to be country or nothing for Danny as far as Sony and 19 were concerned. His only other choice was to sign with a label that has only had a history of producing Christian music, which would not have been a smart move for Danny to make, all he had to do was look at Chris Sligh to see how that would have turned out.

  82. Pixie; yes, there are some fans who truly are fanatics (I am, but am not as organized as some, lol); we have one who archives every interview and bookmarks everything-you ask her for a link and she pulls it right up! She truly knows and has heard everything Danny. Amazing.

Yep, I do agree with you, it does get silly at times ;) as you said! But to avoid that; people would have to avoid the “I heard this, or I remember this”– that is never going to happen with AI fans, no matter which fans we are talking about; they love to bring up the past, in all its glory :) me included!

“which was evident by the fact that 19 allowed his contract to run out.”

Actually, I think it didn’t; I think he signed before it ran out, they didn’t announce right away- maybe some one can confirm that but I’m pretty sure. There were two labels bidding over him (not the Christian one-he already had said no to Mark Bright and Word), and of course he couldn’t say which they were; no one really knows if they were two country labels or Sony Nash and some other.

I was actually against the Country thing to start, because I’m not a country fan; but am really glad now because I love his album and he seems really happy to be where he’s at.

This is my impression as well. I remember him talking about it quite a bit when he did that meet and greet in Milwaukee during his homecoming. I agree with you and Steph also that I don’t recall ever hearing or reading a comment from him that specifically excluded country music as a potential path for him.

  84. I’m a terrible speller, but sometimes typos are just too hard to resist. Sorry

WAAAHHHHHH I didn’t even notice. You crack me up! Feel free to call me out on any and all typos I make….I fear there may be many!

I agree, Kris needs to announce his new single. Not sure what they are waiting for at this point. I also hope they don’t lose momentum. I hope if they give Adam a plaque (although someone said he hasn’t been certified), they give Kris his. I would have no problem Kris getting a nice presentation and Adam not getting one since Kris was the winner, but I think it would be kinda insulting the other way around.

  85. Danny Gokey went country because it was the only way he would make money. Case closed lol.

As far as I can tell, Danny didn’t grow up listening to country music. He didn’t even know what the Grand Ole Opry was when they had Country week on the show. Country music fits Danny’s musical style/image, in that message-y, inspirational songs (which is what many of Danny’s songs are) seem more common in country music than in Pop or Hot AC type songs. I think management and producers simply recognized Danny could fit into that format better than he could in any other (other than contemporary Christian), and Danny eventually came around to the idea that country was the place he had the best chance of being successful (again, outside of contemporary Christian). The fact that he now seems very comfortable in Nashville and has learned more about country music and seems to now really like that style of music is to his advantage.

  88. As far as I can tell, Danny didn’t grow up listening to country music

Danny’s family was quite strict and country music was one of the few things they could listen to. The first secular album his dad brought home was Winona Judd. The first single of any genre Danny ever personally bought was Tim McGraw’s “Don’t Take the Girl”.

Yeah, I know, you need a life when you know all these little facts, lol!

Lol! Pretty funny. Are you saying all this ancient history isn’t fascinating ;)

  89. No it is fascinating Indigo. It really is. But let’s face it, we need some controversy. LOL.

Did you hear? Adam bowls a higher score than David, but David has better technique. And he can play more games in a row.

  90. Speaking of Country;

What is up with Kris’s tour? I’ve been meaning to ask Kris fans.

He has the few dates with Country guy Keith Urban and the one LA date with Lady Antebellum.

Is Kris’s management trying to get him to break into the Country genre?

  91. Adam will be calling into OHP tonight

Adam Lambert will be calling Open House Party live from the UK tonight (starts at 7:00 ET). You can listen here: http://bit.ly/31GSEN

According to this, one of the things Kris is going to do while in Rwanda is help teach an ESL class (which isn’t easy — I failed miserably in my attempt to be an ESL teacher)

    http://fourteenplums.wordpress.com/2010/03/27/update-kris-in-rwanda/

That’s interesting girlygirl, but more importantly, what is his bowling score?

In all seriousness though, I have to say that I am VERY impressed with Kris’ level of commitment to charity. He doesn’t just talk the talk, he walks the walk.

  94. He didn’t even know what the Grand Ole Opry was when they had Country week on the show.

That comment is presented as a fact, but it is not. The fact is that he said he didn’t know what “Grand Ole Opry” week means. I know what the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is, but if you told me that the theme was “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Week”, I would know that it was going to be something about rock music, but I wouldn’t know specifically what songs that represented. It is not believable that Danny did not know what the Grand Ole Opry is. He has family in Nashville. He had been to Nashville to record gospel music. He was a huge fan of gospel music, which has a platform on the Grand Ole Opry.

But the great thing is of course that he has now been invited to perform on its stage twice, and been very warmly received.

Yes this is true! Kelly tries harder though.

  96. Allison on her way to the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards.

@AllisonIraheta It’s Saaaattttuuurrrdaaaaayy!!!!!! On my way to the Kids choice awards tonight..!!

  97. My recollection is that in response to a question, since he did so much Rascal Flatts on the show, about maybe going the country route. He said he wanted to do a fusion of R&B with Salsa. He also wanted his music to be inspirational, but didn’t want to limit himself to Christian music. He joked about not having the twang for country and being from Milwaukee, but he had people around him who listened to some country.

Since I don’t follow Danny, I had to have seen and heard this on either AI Extra or Good Day LA. Possibly an interview with Ryan. Ryan only springs to mind because I remember him doing a breakdown on which Idols made the most money and the country artists were at the top. WHen I heard Danny was going country, all I could think of was Ryan .

  98. With all this talk of bowling idols, I wonder if TMZ will make fun of them like they did Kris for going bowling in NYC.

    I certainly hope so.

wonder who will actually play music at the fundraiser concert there tonight

Kris has opened for/been on the same bill with lots of different artists. He just did 2 shows with OneRepublic and he’s opening for Daughtry in August. I think his management is just trying to introduce him to as many new fans as possible. I read (although I can’t confirm this as fact) Keith Urban invited Kris to open for him — they hit it off when Keith & Kris duetted on last year’s finale. And Lady A has also been quoted as being fans of Kris’s, so it’s possible Lady A’s management approached Kris’s management for this one-off concert.

I sincerely doubt Kris would go along with his management trying to turn him into a country artist, since he’s said multiple times he isn’t interested in going that direction.

  102. LOL — Maybe the ex-Idols can form a bowling team. That would be a good way to have some fun and keep in touch!

LOL — Maybe the ex-Idols can form a bowling team. That would be a good way to have some fun and keep in touch!

That is such a great idea! A yearly tournament for charity perhaps?

  104. TwigLA, from the information that I am familiar with, when he talked about wanting to do R&B he also talked about being open to doing modern soul country. I’m glad that’s how it worked out. He is really comfortable in the country music environment, it’s a great fit for him in many ways. And of course he’s off to a great start, I hope the momentum keeps going for him. The only thing I don’t like about him going to country music is that Seattle does not appear to be on the “heavy rotation” circuit for country music artists. I hope he performs here this year. If not, I guess I will have to take a road trip because I’d love to hear him perform live.

  105. I sincerely doubt Kris would go along with his management trying to turn him into a country artist, since he’s said multiple times he isn’t interested in going that direction.

Kris was asked in an interview that was posted here awhile back if there were any other genres that he would be interested in exploring. He named two, I remember country was one for sure, not sure of the other he said. I didn’t take it to mean that he was interested in moving to a country label, but that he might explore the type of sound with his music that could possibly be a crossover to country. I remember commenting on it, I think I talked about how much I liked his recording of his Country Night song, “To Make You Feel My Love”.

  106. I didn’t see this posted anywhere so….

  107. My recollection is that in response to a question, since he did so much Rascal Flatts on the show, about maybe going the country route. He said he wanted to do a fusion of R&B with Salsa.

The most typical thing Danny says about himself is that he has a “soulful” sound, and that is who he is. He’s said that all along. He seems to have had a process of figuring out where that would take him in terms of the current music environment and the genre bins. In his immediate exit interviews from AI8, Danny was quoted saying he had an idea of R&B with a touch of Latin influence. I’ve watched/read almost everything out there about Danny, don’t recall that he was interviewed as to any other formats he might be considering|rejecting (except Christian).

Personally I believe he was also already considering country at that point, as 1) I’ve heard from people who were in LA that Sony was already known before the AI8 season ended to have interest in bringing Danny to Nashville, and 2) what did Danny choose to sing when he did his round of exit media interviews in NY? Not an R&B song, he sang What Hurts the Most at every appearance.

In interviews following the finale and before the tour started, Danny commonly referred to “modern soul country” as a genre option he was considering, and sometimes mentioned R&B as well. And again, look at what Danny was doing as well as what he did/didn’t say on our respective recollections. This was the same period in which he was selecting his four AI tour songs, two of which were country.

He also wanted his music to be inspirational, but didn’t want to limit himself to Christian music. He joked about not having the twang for country and being from Milwaukee, but he had people around him who listened to some country.

I don’t remember the last part unless you mean family, but Danny did say all of these other things. The “twang” thing was in a few interviews, in which it came up because Danny was actively exploring country at the time.

I believe 19 always expected to sign Danny. Before the show even ended or just after, they were saying they expected to sign several of AI8’s finalists. Danny was always one of their favorites on the show, and for most of the season was expected to be either winner or runner-up where they would have been thinking about signing him. Joe Galante with Sony has made it clear they were watching Danny closely before the AI8 season even got too advanced.

Danny had meetings with a senior official at 19 in LA within weeks after the AI finale, and then traveled to Nashville before the AI tour kicked off where he is known to have met with Sony, Mark Bright, and possibly others. That was still early summer, before the AI tour started. Various label reps went out to see and meet with him while he was on tour, and at least two reportedly were negotiating against each other before his deal was announced with 19/RCA Nashville. There were also some other strong hints what was in the works, like Carrie just popping up when the tour hit Memphis, and posing for pics with Danny. According to Danny’s non-profit website, his deal was dated in August before the original 19 contract window ended. It was announced in early September.

I don’t know why they chose that timing, don’t think there is anything untoward about it though. Danny himself never looked particularly anxious about it, he always had a quiet confidence about being signed until the news finally was confirmed. Or well, lol, Danny was pretty anxious about keeping his news secret toward the late phases of the process. He was practically bursting in much of August from wanting to spill the beans but not being able to, was pretty funny at the time :)

It worked out very well for Danny to be signed while on tour, start choosing songs, and then go to Nashville at tour end to record his album in studio in person with Mark Bright the whole time. Vs. the route Kris, Adam and Allison had to take of finding a studio-of-the-week to squeeze in some recording while on the road during tour, which doesn’t seem like the optimum process to me. Danny was able to have a smooth recording process working in person with the Sony team and Mark Bright for months last fall, without the personal and professional distractions of preparing for and then going on tour at the same time.

  108. JosieX , I agree that Danny seems to have found his niche in country. It’s a pretty wide genre and I think Danny’s raspy voice suits it well. Country isn’t just popular in the south. I’d hear it a lot growing up in the Northeast, and also here in CA. The story telling aspect of it appeals to a lot of people.

It’s funny you mentioned Kris country week song. ‘To Make You Feel My Love’ was written by Bob Dylan. I also loved it. My account was messed up at the time so I missed buying it. A few songs on Kris’ album could easily cross over to country audiences.

  109. TwigLA, that is too bad you weren’t able to get that song, it is really good, one of my favorite studio versions from the season. I don’t understand why they take those songs down so quickly. I think if they left them up at least through the tour that they would sell quite a bit more. I remember seeing people say all the time that they had a new appreciation for some of the contestants after seeing them on tour, and I bet quite a few people would have gone onto iTunes and downloaded some songs during that time.

  110. I doubt Jive will announce Kris’s new single until all the Usher hoopla is over next week. He is now Jive’s “Artist of the Moment”. That would clear the airwaves for a big announcement. I just hope they make the wise choice with AWM for a summer jam.

I would also like to see Kris expand his song list on tour with more songs from his album. Personally, I would limit cover songs to two excluding Heartless since it is on his album. I would love to hear BIB, SMAYA (Daughtry concert) & FTA in concert.

  111. Girly Girl, Josie; thanks for answering my question about Kris and opening for Country acts.

I think he certainly could have some crossover country type songs; he even has a twang at times (I really noticed it when he sang the Star Spangled Banner last time).

I guess I just expected them to get him on a tour with someone like Jason Mraz, other types of pop artists that would appeal to his fan demographic.

But gaining new fans in any way shape or form is always good.

  112. I would also like to see Kris expand his song list on tour with more songs from his album. Personally, I would limit cover songs to two excluding Heartless since it is on his album. I would love to hear BIB, SMAYA (Daughtry concert) & FTA in concert.

I don’t follow Kris that closely, so this surprised me. He does a lot of covers on his current tour set? That does seem funny.

It’s funny you mentioned Kris country week song. ‘To Make You Feel My Love’ was written by Bob Dylan. I also loved it. My account was messed up at the time so I missed buying it.

Overall I’m not a big Kris fan, but I did very much like this song from him, and also Falling Slowly from the show. I have an impression he didn’t choose many (any?) songs like that on his CD though?

  113. Steph6449

Kris usually does 3-4 covers when he does a full set (9+ song) concert, almost entirely consisting of any or all of these songs — Heartless mashup, Falling Slowly mashup, MITM and Come Together. He doesn’t do these at every concert — I’d say he does Heartless pretty much every time and MITM shows up at the acoustic gigs but not usually when the full band is there. Conversely, Come Together usually only shows up if the full band is there. He’s only done ANS once or twice since the AI tour ended.

I’d love for him to start doing some more songs off his album — Bring It back, Let It Rain, I Need to Know are 3 I’d love to hear him perform live. Hopefully once he starts going out on this next bunch of gigs he’s got lined up, he’ll introduce more of these songs into his set.

If he’s going to keep doing covers, maybe he should switch them up. How about the Radiohead songs he soundchecked the other day? Or MGMT’s Electric Feel (which Kris mentioned as wanting to cover) As much as I enjoy the Heartless and FS mashups and MITM, I’m a little tired of them. I know other people have tweeted him about sitching the cover songs up as well.

  114. I think Kris can open for lot of artists. Lady A, Keith Urban are both good fit IMO. They are crossover, not just country. Or he could go the pop/rock route and open for Fray, Script, John Mayer,…i think there are a lot of options for him, it’s just matter of who will be touring this summer. The most randon for me personally is actually the Daughtry connection,i know they collaborated and are both 19, but musically are Daughtry fans likely to embrace him? I thought he tends to be more hard rocker, but i honestly don’t know.
Also is Kris scheduled to open+do some festivals and radio concerts etc. or can we expect some kind of solo tour?

  115. It’s funny you mentioned Kris country week song. ‘To Make You Feel My Love’ was written by Bob Dylan. I also loved it. My account was messed up at the time so I missed buying it. A few songs on Kris’ album could easily cross over to country audiences.

It was written by Dylan, but Garth Brooks did a cover of it. Garth’s version was very popular in country music. IMO, Kris’ version sounded close to Garth’s.

I think Kris can open for lot of artists. Lady A, Keith Urban are both good fit IMO. They are crossover, not just country.

Lady A has just now crossed over with one song. Their roots are in country music. Keith has had some success with HAC, but he is a country artist. Just like Carrie has crossed over to pop with a few songs, but is still a country music artist.
There is nothing wrong with Kris opening for them, but they are country acts.

  116. As much as I enjoy the Heartless and FS mashups and MITM, I’m a little tired of them. I know other people have tweeted him about sitching the cover songs up as well.

I know what you mean about the cover songs; Danny usually does two cover songs when he does a concert; What Hurts The Most and Back At One. I’ve mentioned before on forums that as much as I like WHTM, I’d rather he do another album song. I never get tired of Back At One for some reason, lol (probably because I am a sucker for love songs). But also, the audience tends to sing along a lot with those two songs (at his urging) and I would rather just hear him sing not them, lol.

I wonder if they do that to appeal to potential new fans that may not have heard the album songs?

Does Adam do any cover songs at his concerts?

  117. Suenigma
Yours may have a better bowling average but can he be that sexy bowling in shiny 2 inch heeled boots?

  118. Indiobunting
Yes Adam does Mad World and Whole Lotta Love. Not all the time sometimes just one or the other. But Adam has only done whta 4 concerts. At gridlock he only did WLL same with the Kradison concert. He only did Mad world at the Iheartradio show. But he did both at Fantasy Springs
Oh yeah and he performed MW for the unplugged set for VH1.
He did do MW a few times in Australia for radio stations, may 2-3 times. And I remember he did MW in Spore concert as well.

  119. I agree with girlygirl. I think it is time to retire the covers he did on the show. I just feel it is time to move on. We will soon have a new AI champ and Kris needs to establish himself outside the idol bubble. I would think it would take the same amount of time to get a cover song ready for concert as it would be to get one of his own songs ready. If Kris is out traveling, his band should still be in practice sessions with his music. Cale knows Kris’s style well enough to know be able to run the sessions and then let Kris come in later and make whatever changes he desires. The Keith Urban, Lady A. & Daughtry concerts are major opportunities and Kris needs to showcase “his” music to a whole new legion of potential fans & buyers.

  120. I wonder if they do that to appeal to potential new fans that may not have heard the album songs?
Does Adam do any cover songs at his concerts?

I think it can help newer artists build rapport with an audience if they mix into sets of their new material something the audience knows–,if they pick the right one for their style though, and don’t overdo it. For Danny, he does commonly do What Hurts the Most. It doesn’t bother me, at this point I almost think of it more as his song than Rascal Flatts’ ;) (Though I like them also.) And Back at One is pretty beautiful, I’ve only heard Danny sing that once live. Most times I’ve seen Danny since he started touring on his own, he’s done one cover (or none), two at the most, with the rest being totally from his album.

Do agree about the audience singing along, a little of that is enough for me but Danny really enjoys interacting with the audiences and they respond to him well as a rule. He’s been better lately about singing more himself if he has the audience join in. Earlier on, it was as if the audience sang more than half the song :(

For Kris, that does sound like a lot of covers. I’d think he would want to get more people to know his new music and give them reasons to go out and buy the album? Even with Heartless, which was the song that I liked most from Kris on his AI tour set, for those who liked him on the show they may have already bought it off iTunes back in the day. So hearing it on his current tour may not make them run to buy the album now.

  121. Does Adam do any cover songs at his concerts?

Adam has been doing WLL, which he changes up constantly. This “cover” never sounds the same.
He has also started doing an acoustic Mad World. Recently, he changed MW from a moody acoustic vibe to a faster acoustic sound. It’s my favorite version of MW.

  122. To make you feel my love – It was written by Dylan, but Garth Brooks did a cover of it. Garth’s version was very popular in country music. IMO, Kris’ version sounded close to Garth’s.

I remember when there were so many posters angry that Kris mentioned that he was singing a Garth B’s song on the preview, & that he did not say the right writer, etc, etc. Kris has an encyclopedia music brain, so of course he knew, but he couldn’t say it because it was country week. He said in an article that he found a loophole and “cheated” because he loved that song.
And it was funny when Kara was gushing that “It just did not sound country to me, it was just beauuutiful.”

That week I completely became a Kris fan. Incredible vocal.

  123. I heard Red Guitar at a restaurant the other night and today I heard Let it Rain. Is this satellite radio that picks up a whole disk and plays it?

And I’m voicing my daily plea for the single NOT to be AWM. Nooooo

  124. Kris changes the arrangement, phrasing, etc. of his covers up a lot. Probably to try and keep them fresh for him and the band. So there have been a lot of variations of his version of CT, MITM, Heartless and FS. But it would still be better to do more songs off his album, and if he still needs to do 1-2 covers, change them up from show to show (or at least every few shows)

  125. Ohhhh, I’d love to see some of Kris’s typical covers when I go to his concert with Keith in August. He definitely changes these songs up a lot. I just know his set won’t be long enough for me.

Let’s see, I want his covers, his entire album, more covers and then I might be satisfied. Hee!

I didn’t realize he was doing a one off opener for Lady A., how cool! He has said a couple times already that, “Need You Now” (I think that’s the title) is his fav current song.

  126. Which song is MITM? Was able to decipher most of the other abbreviations, lol, but that one stumped me.

  127. Sounds like Danny’s show at the casino near Memphis is underway

@dannygokey is rockin the house at Bluesville

    stage set up – http://twitpic.com/1bee2f

MITM – ah, got it :) With that list of covers then for Kris, he’s doing some oldish songs as well as the multiple covers. Interesting, I hadn’t realized that at all.

  128. Tiger92
I still can’t get over that acoustic Whole Lotta Love….I end up watching that every few days, as weel as having it on regular rotation on my phone..that was just the most amazing thing. I really hope he does that on tour.

  129. I would love to hear BIB, SMAYA (Daughtry concert) & FTA in concert.

I like this suggestion. I also think FTA would make an excellent opening song to replace Heartless since it has a driving beat, is up tempo, etc.

But even as I agree it would be smart to switch out some of the covers for new material, I will be sad not to hear MITM or FS when I see Kris in August. I really like them! But he needs to do what will promote the album best (*she says pouting*).

  130. I want him to do Sweet Child of Mine or – he did also say he’d like to do Enter Sandman but with a twist. Oh I’d love to hear that!!

  131. I want him to do Sweet Child of Mine or – he did also say he’d like to do Enter Sandman but with a twist. Oh I’d love to hear that!!

In the chat the band had early this week, I could hear Enter Sandman in the background. I don’t know if it was being played by the band just for fun or if maybe it could happen in Vancouver? That would be pretty cool. You know Monte, LP and Tommy already knew the song..

  132. Hey lorismile
I cant believe you posted that spork on twitter….lol
That thing was horribly cheesy and looked like something a third grader could have made better.

  133. Sorry smegs but I had to. We did give him the sporran so I had to show the sporran spork to the other girls from the group! :-) Don’t be mad!!! I just HAD to show them!

  134. I want him to do Sweet Child of Mine

That’s for Adam, not Kris? Love that song, and I could see Adam handling it well in his own way, although he doesn’t have that raw tone to his vocals that Axl Rose has. (A weird comparison, but probably why as a big GNR fan from way back I also like Danny — big voice with that raw raspy tone to it, lol. Also, probably makes sense why Adam was my second favorite.)

  135. In the chat the band had early this week, I could hear Enter Sandman in the background. I don’t know if it was being played by the band just for fun or if maybe it could happen in Vancouver? That would be pretty cool. You know Monte, LP and Tommy already knew the song..

Oh wicked awesome. Wonder if it was for rehearsal. It gives me something to hope for until the actual concert.

  136. I want him to do Sweet Child of Mine”

Oh wow! Yeah he would rock that song to the ground then pick it up and throw it to the stars. ………Where do we go now….. yeah sweet child of mine. Adam Rocks! :)

  137. Lorismile
I just thought it was funny I got up this morning to check twitter and one of the people I follow to get Adam news had retweeted it. I think that is the first time I was part of a second hand tweet but not actually involved.
But as punishment I am now following you on twitter to keep an eyey on your dastardly ways :)

  138. But as punishment I am now following you on twitter to keep an eyey on your dastardly ways

    :-)

So I’m thinking either Adam slept and isn’t calling into OHP or he will be on the very end. I’m thinking it might be recorded since it’s so late.

  139. @AdamLambert WILL BE HEADLINING HIS OWN TOUR THIS SUMMER. (from OHP call-in interview, 27 March 2010)
less than a minute ago from TweetDeck ·

  140. Even with Heartless, which was the song that I liked most from Kris on his AI tour set, for those who liked him on the show they may have already bought it off iTunes back in the day. So hearing it on his current tour may not make them run to buy the album now.

It’s on his album, so maybe it would.

  141. So if Adam is headlining his own tour, that means smaller venues, probably.

But that’s cool if he gets to tour on his own rather than open for someone.

EDIT: This might be a troll. There’s a thread on the OHP interview on ontd_ai, and they said Adam was only on for a hot minute and didn’t give any details about his tour. So did anyone here actually HEAR the interview? Did Adam really say he was headlining his own tour? Because if Adam said this, they would be faliling over on ontd_ai. And there’s absolutely no flailing going on.

Or is twitter being the devil again?

  142. So if Adam is headlining his own tour, that means smaller venues, probably.

But that’s cool if he gets to tour on his own rather than open for someone.

i still think opening for a bigger act is a better way to expand fanbase. but if that’s what he wanna do, that what he is gonna do. I hope he and his band will tour to Chicago.

    girlygirl

i listened to the interview. it’s really short. Adam did confirmed he will be headlining his own tour. will be small venue such as theater. not many deeds yet.

  143. It’s on his album, so maybe it would.

Maybe some would run out to buy Kris’s album to hear one of his cover songs that they had already purchased on iTunes from the show, but seems more likely to me that people would get more motivated to buy the album if they could be excited enough hearing him with new songs to want to hear more and own the music. Just my opinion.

  144. hahaha. I thought you were calling me a troll, lol. I keep seeing something about medium sized venues and a Handful of concerts too. BTW- there is a new Adam thread. I posted the tweet there.

  145. smeggingnuts lorismile on my way out but couldn’t leave till I checked up on adam, was scanning this thread and saw that both of u referred to twitter are u on it if so whats ur screen name. I to was at the FS it was so much fun Adam fans are the gr8est people
twitter did say he was touring alone for me thats a big yeah then on here I read that it might not be true
I am a lurker very seldom post so a big Hello to everyone

  146. Well a benifate to opening for someone is you can expand you listening base, which is always good. There is also sharing of the tour costs. I just hope I can get tickets if they arnt gonna being a lot of shows

  147. My screan name is *surprise* smeggingnuts..follow me at risk to your sanity :)

  148. This might be a troll. There’s a thread on the OHP interview on ontd_ai, and they said Adam was only on for a hot minute and didn’t give any details about his tour. So did anyone here actually HEAR the interview? Did Adam really say he was headlining his own tour?

I gave up after listening a lot of miley, ke$ha etc … but it was all over the twitter world right after Adam was on the OHP.

  149. Nice photo gallery posted by Florida 99.9 Gator Country station from Danny’s performance last night. Lots of pics of Danny in concert and the crowd scenes, the other act shown in the full gallery is Steel Magnolia who opened for Danny.

  150. Very nice photos, Steph thanks! Wow, that radio station took a lot.
I hope that girl didn’t tatoo Danny on her cheek; I hope it was pen!

Interesting re Lady A and Tim McGraw. They have Love and Theft opening when they come to Summerfest.
But added Kris for the LA date.

And now I see Danny is opening for them July 23 in Charlotte.

These Country Acts are interesting; the way they rotate their opening acts around. On the Sugarland tour; sometimes Danny is opening with Luke Bryan, Julianne Hough, Jake Owen. Seems it would be more efficient to stick with the same acts all the time, but I guess that is just how it is done.

  151. And now I see Danny is opening for them July 23 in Charlotte.

I think that it’s great that it looks like Danny will be opening for Tim McGraw and Lady Antebellum on July 23. Another good opportunity for him. :)

Danny is opening at one of Tim McGraw’s concerts with Lady A? How’d I miss that but that’s awesome, in addition to all the Sugarland dates we already knew about, and a few others where he’s appearing at events with Keith Urban, Darius Rucker, and more.
(Thought for Kris though, he was appearing with Lady A at a date where they were performing in a club or theater in LA, vs. one of the “major tour” country arena-type dates Lady A is doing with Tim.)

I have seen on the Sugarland tour that there is a mix of acts, but Danny seems to have the most dates of anyone I’ve seen yet with Sugarland’s 55-city tour. He has some 20-25, I think. Most of the others have been listed for just a handful to maybe up to 10 or so. Will be interesting to see what sort of touring Danny does in August and later in the year, if as appears his Sugarland tour will be running from early May into early August with some other types of concert appearances mixed into that, like Summerfest, country music festivals, etc.
ps – offtopic, but saw Love and Theft last weekend in Virginia, really good.

  153. I saw on twitter that Allison and Kris are both appearing at Six Flags in NJ on May 15th. Has anyone else seen this?

You don’t miss anything, Steph! :) It was just posted at his official site tonight.

I can’t keep up with all the dates. I hope they are not overdoing it; he is very tough (I call him the Energizer Bunny), but I do worry about vocal strain. Someone in his management needs to reign him in with all his fan socializing; he must preserve his voice! Although I doubt that will happen, now that they are selling meet & greet passes, with all proceeds going to Sophias Heart Foundation. He won’t want to curtail that.

His voice did sound great in those videos from last night; but I know the AI tour put strain on everyone’s voice; I would worry about the same thing with all these dates.

OT- I love Love and Theft Runaway. I’d consider seeing them with Lady A and T. McGraw at Summerfest, but of course will go see Danny on his headlining night instead :)

  155. Just saw this also, Danny is at another country music festival appearing the same day as Keith Urban again. This one is in Colorado in late June.

    http://countryjamgjco.countryjam.com/index.cfm?event=lineup

That’s cool in country music that you can have artists as diverse as Keith, Danny, Big Kenny and David Nail appearing before the same crowd, and almost always they will be really well-accepted.

  156. I can’t keep up with all the dates. I hope they are not overdoing it; [Danny] is very tough (I call him the Energizer Bunny), but I do worry about vocal strain.

The Sugarland tour itself should be set up to avoid too much strain, as they have to be concerned not to retrigger the vocal issues Jennifer Nettles had last year. And that’s just one concert a night if Danny will keep to that plus media. He might even find it restful, lol, vs. the radio tour station hopping he’s been doing for months with sometimes 3-4 stops a day including one or more performance sets a day.

for girlygirl, I want to say I’ve heard about Kris at Six Flags, but not Allison. I don’t personally like that approach of having Allison go out to perform with Kris so much, seems to me she would do better paired up with some non-AI artist (or at least a non-AI8 artist). It comes across to me as if she’s tagging along as Kris’s little sister. And I’m not sure it does a lot for Kris professionally either.

I thought the same thing. Can’t Jive pair her up with a nice teen act? That is who she needs to attract right now, and she needs to get out of the AI bubble and make some new fans. As well as perhaps, find a good mentor. I know it is just an isolated date, but I wish the would be a little more proactive about getting her meaningful gigs; its like they have forgotten about her :(
But maybe there are things in the works, of which we know nothing about.

  158. Looks like a good-sized crowd again for Danny, this time at the Tunica MS casino performance tonight. I’m starting to wonder though who in his band is taking these pics rather than playing when they are on stage ;)

dannygokey: GREAT show in Tunica tonight!! Thanx 2 all who came out. Here’s a pic from the stage. Go 2 http://www.dannygokey.com 2 get your tickets 2 my next show!!

  159. At the BTEFoundation benefit tonight in New Orleans, it’s been reported that David Cook joined BetterThanEzra on stage for “Absolutely Still”. He also sang “Avalanche”, a song he wrote with Kevin Griffin, and then sang “Living on a Prayer”, during which the crowd sang along. Kevin Griffin also announced that David would be leaving for Africa tomorrow. There seems to be videos coming. :) Cook fans are thrilled.

  160. LOL I was driving back from the Daughtry show and I was getting texts from my friend who was at the BTE gala and she made note 3 times, yes 3 that his shirt buttons were malfunctioning again before she even mentioned what he sang hahahaha. We’re such a disgustingly shallow bunch :p

  161. ^^^^
OOH! Gimme YouTubes, gimme YouTubes! I loved his harmonies on “Absolutely Still,” can’t wait to see ’em again. (Speaking of harmonies I was driving along and “Starseed” came on my iPod and all I could think of was David singing harmonies, lol)

Can’t wait for pics and such of his Africa trip. Glad he’s taking Neal with him. He’s a good egg, that Cookie.

  162. We’re such a disgustingly shallow bunch

But it’s so nice and warm in the shallow end of the pool! (Not in a pee-in-the-water sort of way, but in the floating on a raft sipping a cocktail kind of way, heh)

I’m shocked (in a good way) at how well Danny is doing! He is headlining 1,000-7,000 seat shows! (And the tickets in Tunica were not cheap.)
The response he is getting must be exciting and encouraging to his AI fans! Good for Danny!

  164. Hooray for Twitter. I need *something* to wake me up so I can keep on working, lol.

  165. I’m shocked (in a good way) at how well Danny is doing! He is headlining 1,000-7,000 seat shows! (And the tickets in Tunica were not cheap.)

Can’t speak for them all, but pretty happy here for the time being, yeah ;)

It took me a while to realize it, but I think the reasons Danny got “pimped” (praised) a lot on the show were not strictly about just how good/strong his vocals can be. But also how much audiences, by and large, respond well to him. That wasn’t always obvious watching thru a tv screen, but was very easy to see when I saw Danny on the AI tour and a few times since. I wasn’t surprised really that he got a good touring opportunity so fast, although it wasn’t something I was counting on.

I don’t know if they sold out that venue tonight, but it was big — I saw a reference that it may have held up to 1300-1400 people. If he got anywhere close to that, good for Danny–esp as you noted, the better tickets weren’t at all cheap.

  166. Fan of Danny’s giving his set list tonight, included a song I’ve never heard of him performing before, Travis Tritt’s T.R.O.U.B.L.E. He also brought back out Life is a Highway, which he’d performed last fall a number of times. Guess that explains why one of the band members was tweeting about rehearsals last week, although we didn’t understand why at the time.

hello peeps! about to hit the sack cause my eyes are just burning but wanted to share something of the show. I got the set list at the end (yay!) and here’s what he sang. it’s a little out of order cause they jumped around but they started off with:

    Like it’s a bad thing
    My Best Days
    Life On Ya
What Hurts the Most (Rascal Flatts)
    Get Away
    Tiny Life
I Will Never Say Goodbye (he got choked up at end)
    I Stil Believe
    Crazy Not To
Back at One (Mark Wills | Brian McKnight cover)
Life is a Highway (Rascal Flatts)
    T.R.O.U.B.L.E. (Travis Tritt)
    Be Somebody

Yes, you read that right, Danny sang one of my favorite group performances from the show. I loved top 11 group number! I was so surprised and happy when he came out for encore and ripped into this.

So given the earlier conversation about Kris — Danny did more than his usual one or two covers, but that was after his setlist for Tunica already had him basically singing his entire album. Seems to have been one of his longer headlining appearances so far.

  167. At the BTEFoundation benefit tonight in New Orleans, it’s been reported that David Cook joined BetterThanEzra on stage for “Absolutely Still”. Wordnerdarchie – here’s the fan video, from the Ezra Open, set to “Heroes”

    And the write-up:
“Platinum-selling rock musician David Cook bowls for charity at the 2010 Ezra Open in New Orleans on March 27, 2010. Proceeds benefit the Better Than Ezra Foundation, whose mission is “to commit funding towards the renewal of the structural and cultural heritage of New Orleans and Southern Louisiana.” Check them out at http://www.davidcookofficial.com and http://www.btefoundation.org.”

Great to get the news that David leaves for Ethiopia tomorrow – and yep – still a tight schedule.

My favorite tweet so far was from a guy at the show –

    >>David Cook just sang his song “Avalanche” that he and Kevin from Better Than Ezra co-wrote together @harrahsNOLA the crowd went nuts!
    ~

  168. OH BTW about the Africa trip apparently David told someone tonight he has no idea where the 7-10 thing came from and he’s going to be there a couple of days fwiw. Granted it’s a longass flight but a couple of days seems more sensible time/scheduling wise.

  169. Just dropping in to say that I was in Tunica on Tues, Wed, & Thurs of this week. I had originally planned to be there Fri & Sat, but the hotel rates jumped dramatically at all their casino hotels for the weekend–from around $80/nt to around $300/nt for some. I would have gone to see Danny, as his tickets were only $21 which was very reasonable. I like Danny’s singing okay but don’t really like country music.

There are (I think) eight casinos in approximately 6-8 miles stretch, so he probably had a good pool of people already in town to draw his audience from–as well as those who went there specifically to see him.

I have to say that had Adam been in Tunica tonight, I would have come up with the $300 for the hotel, whatever $ for the ticket, and gone on up there tonight cause I know I wouldn’t be able to drive back 180 miles AFTER Adam. I would want to bask in all his glory before coming back to stark reality.

I’m finally catching up on all the threads starting with Monday night. There was so much good stuff about Adam to hear and see. I’ve just been reading–made no comments. But before I return to bed now, I’ll just add my “YUM’ to everyone else’s.

  170. David told someone tonight he has no idea where the 7-10 thing came from and he’s going to be there a couple of days fwiw. Granted it’s a longass flight but a couple of days seems more sensible time/scheduling wise.

Makes a lot more sense, Trina. Just Twitter, being the devil again. Good to have the announcement come from Kevin Griffin, and not an anonymous source.

Now there would have been a band name….Cookie Cook and the Shallow Bunch. Your friend clearly has her priorites right. That’s some important intel right there. ;) That said, I do hope an Absolutely Still or Avalanche performance vid appears. Cook + Griffin is one of my fave combos, writing or otherwise.

  172. Just dropping in to say that I was in Tunica on Tues, Wed, & Thurs of this week. I had originally planned to be there Fri & Sat, but the hotel rates jumped dramatically at all their casino hotels for the weekend–from around $80/nt to around $300/nt for some.

Wow, so glad so many came to see Danny then; even the $100 front row seats looked full. I saw fans from Twitter who came for MO and Texas and elsewhere.

Isn’t if funny what we will do for our faves? I’m headed to Colorado in May to see him with Sugarland, which involves a hotel and plane flight!

  173. It looks like videos from the BTE benefit (w/Cook) still aren’t up yet this morning. The one woman who took video said she needed some sleep first. (Hope not too much, lol.) Here is a twitpic of Dave helping out Kevin during the auction portion of the event (prior?) to singing (via hbhauser).

  174. Fan of Danny’s giving his set list tonight, included a song I’ve never heard of him performing before, Travis Tritt’s T.R.O.U.B.L.E.

He kind of performed it before. It was the group number for country night (Top 11).

I heard someone say that. Heh, must confess I turn on the tv mute when the usually-horrific group numbers come on ;)
Haven’t ever heard of Danny doing it since though, interesting choice for him when I went back to listen to the Travis Tritt original last night.

  176. Megan Joy was also at the Better Than Ezra fundraiser last night and got to sing songs onstage with BTE too :)

    She tweeted:

Mornin guys!! Layover in Dallas with @canchop! Next stop New Orleans!!
About to sing!!! Ahhh back on stage…. Feels soooooo good
And uh…. Singing my own songs!? DREAMS COME TRUE :)

    And she sang 3 songs:
    Her First song
One was her song that she wrote Boy Next Door
Another was Black Horse and Cherry Tree

  177. Wow in that pic from the auction you can see just how much weight David has lost. I wonder if he’ll continue to work with the trainer when the race is over.

  178. Megan Joy loks like she’s having fun last night, unfortunately the hair and the outfit should have been a “just say no!!” as full spandex works for very few.

  179. What’s fun about Megan, is even though she is a true amateur singer with all that entails, she has such a strong sense of self. I love her original songs because they are so her and I think are so fun to listen to. In terms of her look, I enjoy that she mixes it up.

So glad one of my favs from S8 is still plugging along!

  180. I’m shocked (in a good way) at how well Danny is doing! He is headlining 1,000-7,000 seat shows! (And the tickets in Tunica were not cheap.)

I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed Danny’s set on the AI Tour. I wasn’t a big fan of his on AI, but I didn’t dislike him. I’m glad he is doing so well.

I do think the judges pimp certain contestants for a reason. I agree, sometimes I think they see something in certain contestants that, for whatever reason, doesn’t translate on TV. The judges do get to see the contestants more than we do, and it’s common knowledge that they often watch rehearsals. I also think the producers watch the internet traffic and AI boards and get an idea of how popular contestants are and that also is a deciding factor in the pimping.

I’m glad things are going well for Danny. I haven’t had time to check out his album yet, but I plan on doing so in the next week or two. I really do like his voice, so with the right material, I could see myself really enjoying the album.

  181. Joyed,
thanks for the videos of Megan. Glad to see her happy and on stage with her new songs. Look forward to hearing when she’s ready to release her music. She was among my favorites from AI8, and has really risen on my list as I’ve seen the kinds of new music the finalists have been doing since the show ended.

  182. I’m trying to do a b-quote and not sure it is going to work. I had posted before I went to bed last night that Danny’s tickets were reasonable at $21. The quote from someone (?) else said “the tickets were not cheap”. I was talking specifically about the cost of the tickets since I would already have already been in Tunica. The other poster was probably speaking of the tickets if they went there just for the concert. I did see a package deal several weeks ago that included hotel, two dinner buffets, and the ticket for either $289 or $389, can’t remember which.

I too wish Danny much success. Looks like he has a home in country music if he wants it.

  183. The quote from someone (?) else said “the tickets were not cheap”.

Not sure if you meant my response? Didn’t say the tickets weren’t cheap, but just mentioned that it was great that the front rows seats looked full ($100 a pop).

Tickets ranged from $21-$100. Maybe only the $21 were left? But I agree, that is a fabulous price to see Danny. :)

I think they were referring to my post. I was congratulating Danny and saying he was headlining shows and I knew the tickets weren’t cheap to the event in Tunica. This venue is near me, so I checked on tickets and remembered them being offered for standard prices at these types of venues. (which is a good thing!)
I was pointing out that these weren’t $10 tickets just to pack the place. Danny had to have fans that actually paid a good amount of money to see him perform.
