Tricky Stewart talks about producing Casey Abrams, Naima Adedapo

Stewart says Naima came up with the idea of the reggae breakdown for Umbrella — an idea he liked so much that he brought it back to the end of her studio recording. “I was really happy with her performance, ” he says. “The first thing that she told me, instantly, was that she could sing a contemporary hit. Not only did she do that and nail a record that everyone on the planet knows, at the same time, she was able to lend some creativity to it. She has creativity; she clearly has a style of her own. At the end of the day, to me, she has shown that she can sing a hit record that’s in today’s time.”

As for Casey, “I don’t even know what to say about him, ” Stewart says. “He’s just an amazing talent. I can’t sing Casey’s praises enough about his excellence as a singer, his musicianship as a bass player. On top of that, with everything that he’s going through health-wise and still being able to compete at this level, I honestly think that this is just the beginning for him.

Stewart notes that when Casey made his recording of With a Little Help From My Friends, he had a port for an IV in his arm. “He had just come out of the hospital, ” he says. “He’s a true example of what it means to be a professional, in my opinion.

Steven Tyler, Randy Jackson Talk ‘Wackiest’ ‘American Idol’ Judge

“Ryan is the weirdest, ” Jackson said. “And he has a little bit of a B.O. going on, but oh, we shouldn’t talk about that. What do you think of the judges, Steven?”

“Wow, I mean, you haven’t seen the side of Jennifer [Lopez] that I’ve seen, ” Tyler said. “I knew it existed when I watched ‘The Back-Up Plan’ and I said I would only do it if she did, because I’d already met [Randy], ” Tyler explained of seeing Lopez’s romantic comedy. “And when I met him at lunch, after five minutes, I thought all the cameras in the world could be rolling so I knew I’d jump into this. But Jennifer, oh my God — look out.”

Who has what it takes to win it all on ‘Idol’?

There’s still more than two months until “American Idol” crowns its season 10 winner, but that doesn’t mean it’s too early to gauge who the favorites are.

This season has one of the deeper pools of contenders in the show’s history. A lot of the remaining dozen have special expertise in a musical genre, but there’s one singer in particular who looks to have all the ingredients that “Idol” likes to have in a champion, making this performer one of the biggest favorites I’ve seen in recent years.

Who’s that odds-on favorite? Read on for my prediction of each contestant’s odds of winning.
