American Idol’s Chris Medina on His Fiancee, J-Lo’s Tears & New Single

Though some fans felt that American Idol’s focus on Chris and Juliana’s story smacked of exploitation, Chris tells us that one of the reasons he tried out for the show was to bring attention to Juliana’s plight. It worked — since he appeared on the show, people have offered them all kinds of assistance. He says, “I really did think and hope that people out there could help. [But] I didn’t know it could be like this…I really think that it will allow me to do something I really love and not have to worry that she’s not being taken care of.” Chris says he can now give up his job in Starbucks, which he took so he could get benefits for Juliana. As for whether or not they’ll marry, Chris wants to wait so Juliana can “learn how to be herself” again.
