Nashville’s Kree Harrison is the latest in a wave of industry vets infiltrating the American Idol universe – American Idol has always depended on the myth of the virtuosic outsider — the young ingénue or hard-living roughneck who sings only in the shower (or in church), waiting to be discovered. But over the past couple of seasons, that ideal has slipped further and further into the rearview mirror. It seems the country is running low on hidden gems, and a distinct professionalization has taken place on Idol. – Read more at Nashville Scene
Kree Harrison Explains Why She and Kacey Musgraves are ‘Has-Beens’ – “It was the day after New Year’s Eve,” Harrison says, “and he said, ‘Man, y’all left the house yesterday looking like a bunch of movie stars, and came back this morning looking like a bunch of has-beens [Laughs].’” “So me and Kacey, and our friend Elice, we claim to be the next generation of ‘has-beens,’” Harrison explains. “… And we just say some ridiculous things, like, ‘About to Bes,’ or ‘Never Weres.’ It’s funny. But yeah, it has been an inside joke.” – Read more at Taste of Country

Cassadee Pope Talks ‘Bad Memories’ That Inspired New Song – Breaking up is hard to do, especially if there are children involved. Danielle Bradbery Talks ‘Voice,’ Coming Out of Her Comfort Zone, And Blake Shelton’s Support – Talk about a fairy tale come true: Danielle Bradbery’s story sounds so-over-the-top on paper that it’s almost cliche. A shy teenage girl with no prior vocal lessons and no stage experience finds herself auditioning for a wildly popular reality talent show, due to her mother signing her up behind her back. Said inexperienced girl goes on to wow the nation, win the whole shebang, and become the youngest-ever champion on NBC’s “The Voice.” “It kind of blows my mind too,” admits Team Blake’s latest pride and joy, with a smile. She explains that she really, honestly never did think she was going to win in the first place. More cliches? Possibly, but in Bradbery’s case there’s not even a whisper of insincerity in them. – See the Videos at Yahoo Music

Grateful, inspired, empathetic and fully at peace. – Read more at People
NBC ‘Million Second Quiz,’ with Ryan Seacrest hosting, an event-status game show – A giant hourglass structure being built on the rooftop of an abandoned Manhattan car dealership may look like Godzilla’s futuristic toy but instead represents NBC’s hope for the television event of the season. It’s the set for “The Million Second Quiz,” a prime-time competition with Ryan Seacrest as host that will play out over two weeks starting Sept. 9. Someone adept at trivia will win a $2 million prize on the Sept. 19 finale. More than a game, the event is a peek into the future of broadcast television. – Read more at Newsday
How So You Think You Can Dance’s all-stars made it reality TV’s great survivor – So You Think You Can Dance has never been a ratings juggernaut like its sister series American Idol, and like most reality TV competitions, its ratings have diminished over time. Once the novelty fades and the genre conventions become more evident, more people tune out. But SYTYCD remains the only place to see aspiring dancers compete on national television; America’s Best Dance Crew is off the air, Dancing With The Stars focuses on celebrities who do routines with seasoned ballroom dancers, and America’s Got Talent only has a few dancers among its competitors. Only SYTYCD features professional-grade choreography in a variety of dance styles, making it a sort of ambassador for the art form to the viewing public. – Read more at AV Club
