‘Sound of Music’ Star Laura Benanti Is About to Be One of Your Favorite Things – When Carrie Underwood does her iconic Maria von Trapp on the mountaintop twirl on Thursday night’s live NBC broadcast of The Sound of Music, Laura Benanti will do her best not to rush in from the wings and start belting about the hills being alive herself. “Could you imagine?” the actress tells me. “That would be hilarious: ‘Actress Goes Crazy in Live Telecast, Never Works Again.’” The Tony-winning Broadway-turned-TV star is starring as Baroness Elsa Schraeder opposite Underwood in the ambitious broadcast, a live, one-night-only staging of the cherished musical. You’re going to love her in it. We promise. And that the scene-stealing supporting role could be somewhat of a breakout moment for Benanti is a bit of an absurd circumstance for several reasons, the least of which is that 16 years ago Benanti was already playing the lead role—Maria!—on Broadway…when she was only 18 years old. – Read more at the Daily Beast

‘Glee’ creator carries on for Cory Monteith – “From the beginning of the show, the relationship between Cory’s character and Rachel (Lea Michele) was the core of it,” the Newton homey told the Track. “He was also truly one of my favorite people. The kindness, the generosity, that’s who he was. When we were on tour, he was always the first one to run out into the crowd and sign autographs. He kept everyone together and happy. I loved writing for him. I miss writing for him. I miss him as a person. … It’s hard to be at work sometimes.” Falchuk said it’s been especially difficult to do this season of the show, knowing what might have been had Monteith not died of a toxic mix of heroin and booze in a Vancouver hotel room last summer. “We were heading towards something special with his character this season,” he said. “We were really excited about it.” – Read more at Boston Herald

Why The Biggest Loser Is Dying to Get More Celebrities Like Ruben Studdard – “Ruben was a huge success for us,” Sweeney explains. “I mean for him, he didn’t even look at it like he was a celebrity, and he would be like, ‘I’m still the guy who wants to be on campus and change my life.’ He fit right in with the group, he was willing to do the work to make the changes that he needed for his life. It’s hard and it’s scary and emotional and he committed himself to the process, and I couldn’t say enough about this along the way, what a good man he is.” Sweeney jokes that she wishes they could clone Ruben, saying, “We need to have a Ruben every season!” Maybe they’ll let him come back? It happened once before… – Read more at EOnline
