Clay Aiken’s bus breaks down after stop at the polls on Election Day – Clay Aiken, who is challenging 2nd Congressional District incumbent Republican Renee Ellmers for her seat, experienced a break down on Election Day.
Authorities in Cary had to assist Aiken’s tour bus Tuesday morning after it came to a stop along Walnut Street and Donaldson Court. It is unclear what caused the large vehicle to stall out just before 9 a.m. — moments after Aiken cast his vote at a Cary polling site. – Read more at ABC 11.  Photo from this twitter account. CMA Awards tickets now going for average of $550 – NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The hottest ticket in Music City this week is to the CMA Awards Wednesday night. The only way to get one, however, is to spend a lot of money on the secondary market. “That’s something that I would love to do because I’m a big Lady Antebellum fan and I love Brantley Gilbert,” said Jeremy McKay of Nashville. “I would be willing to go for 200 dollars,” he continued. But Mckay will likely need to pay even more. Right now, the only tickets available are on the secondary market for an average price of $550 per ticket, according to ticket search engine Seat Geek. – Read more at News2

  2. MJ, are you going to follow the election results as they are posted at the NCBE?

  4. First concert date for James and his new band popped up today for Oakland Ca. on 1/15 @ Yoshi’s Oakland:

(Guessing this is the first concert date with more to come and the earliest he’ll be hitting the road since Heidi is due in just 6 days :)

  5. I would think that he hoped to win but was realistic about his chances as he was running in a republican district. If the only people who ever ran a campaign were people with a reasonable chance of winning the majority of races in this country would be unopposed and voters would have no choice. Sometimes the parties put up a candidate just so someone is running and can give voters an option. I think that is important in a democracy. Sometimes people run knowing they have no chance of winning in the hopes of raising their profile for another run in the future. If the question is did Clay run to simply raise his public profile so that he would have other business or entertainment opportunities? Who knows. I doubt it though. There are easier and more pleasant ways to do that.

  6. David Archuleta @DavidArchie
An album my friends @NashvilleTBand invited me to sing on called #Redeemer is out today. It was a privilege! —>

This is a Christian/Gospel collaboration album with multiple guest artists, mostly of the country genre, like Diamond Rio and SHeDAISY. The guest artists are not identified individually on the track listing but song David cowrote and recorded is track 13, When the Son of Man (Comes Again).

  7. Yesterday Blake held a concert on the USS Lexington that doubled as a commercial shoot for Pepsi and the Super Bowl. If you search the #BlakeShelton tag on Instagram, it pulls up a bunch of pictures and clips from it.

    — — —

Last year there was a one hour radio special that Kelly recorded for WIR (Link) that stations could play. Her commentary stuck mostly to the songs and the recording process. This year they went back and recorded another version for stations to pick up. In this version she doesn’t talk so much about the songs themselves, but does get much more personal when intro’ing some of them talking about her family, the Christmas special last year and her concert she’s putting together this year.

Part 1 has Wrapped In Red (song) talk where she reveals that that song is actually much more personal than she let on before. It’s still a play on the notecard scene in Love Actually, but more than that, it’s something that she did.

In Part 2 for the Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas intro, she says that River doesn’t care much for current music and starts crying and gets fussy when it’s played. She likes the old stuff like Rosemary Clooney so Kelly’s happy that someone wants to hear her sing that stuff. lol

After that for the Winter Dreams intro she talks about how cliché it is to write a song about a significant other and whatnot. She followed that up by saying that she didn’t think she’d ever get married, never thought she’d have children and now she has three. She reflects on how they’ve all enriched her life, even though she didn’t realize she was missing anything before.

4 Carats – she wanted a Santa Baby song without doing Santa Baby. In her head it’s a cross between Santa Baby and Material Girl and the “cutsey” song on the album. Before White Christmas she talks about what a genius Greg Kurstin is and how he has a jazz background that many people don’t know about.

Part 3 before Silent Night she talks about filming the Christmas special last year. It was fun and she loved the planning of it all and hated filming it because she was really sick at that time, but they couldn’t tell anyone she was pregnant yet.

  8. lol@ broken down bus. only had enough gas to get to the polls, not from them. ;-)

  9. Today was a little late for the campaign bus. Unless Clay doesn’t have access to a car.

  10. Really like When The Son of Man. David seems to be recording in his live performance voice, love the last 1.5 minutes. It’s the most purchased single on the album.

  11. Interesting part where he talks about record labels.
“I’ve seen what they can offer. And I’ve seen what they said they were going to offer, and what didn’t happen.”

Out here on the red carpet at the @BMI awards! Gonna be a great night!

These awards honor songwriters. Vince Gill will be honored with an Icon award.

I wonder if there will be any pictures?

  13. David’s career seems to be headed to whatever the LDS version of CCM is. If that’s where he’s happy, more power to him.

  14. So I just decided to look up the elections and it looks like Clay lost really badly….

  15. @remavineyard: Just saw @adamlambert arrive w @drbrianmay !!

  17. I do wonder if something along those lines might have been what he was referring to when he tweeted this back in at the end of August when he was in Nashville:
Both he and one of his writing partners have said that the music he’s putting together for next year is not specifically religious. Not sure what that will mean but I guess we’ll see.

  18. Adam Lambert ? …. Fully clothed…eehh fully dressed up !! LOL…
ETA: it is dressed to the nine.

  19. It’s too bad he isn’t performing, but it’s still great that he’s there. Fingers crossed for a QAL victory!

We won!! So excited to win band of the year w @QueenWillRock at the #ClassicRockAwards !!

    Adam looks so happy!!

ETA: from the Classic Rock live blog

9.57: Next up, it’s a biggie: Band of the Year, sponsored by UMG. And it’s Brian May and Adam Lambert onstage, which means their Royal Majesties Queen have triumphed, and are claiming the statuette.

  24. Nice what Sammy Hagar said about Adam. I heard they were the only ones so far to get a Standing O from the audience, meaning from all those rock guys and gals.

  25. Who Trended it ? ?@whotrendedit
Guess what. @classicrockmag and @adamlambert made #ClassicRockAwards a trending topic in the US. Say whaaat?
Adam’s tweet is getting a lot of action:
    First 30 minutes — 527 Retweets 596 favorites

  26. That was amazing for them, especially for Adam . It was great Brian May had Adam speak, they work really well together.

  27. I thought it was great what Sammy Hagar said about Adam also. He is really getting recognition for working with Queen. Great to see.

  28. Sammy Hagar! That is a name I haven’t heard for awhile. My husband grew up in the same town & was a classmate of Sammy’s sister :) but I digress, happy for QAL.

  29. For some reason I find it rather ironic that the guy from Idol who is rarely credited with bringing amazing rock performances to the show is the winner of a prestiges rock award for “classic rock”. Caleb (what’s his hoosit) needs to re-evaluate his position as the rock guy from Idol. Long live classic rock and the music of the 70s and early 80s…still my very favorite era and the one I still jam to in my car.

  30. Keith Urban was just on GMA right now croaking his way through some song. I don’t follow him, has he been having vocal issues lately?

  31. Congrats to Adam and Queen for the classic rock award.
But with regards to him or even Caleb for that matter, the key word here is “classic”. It’s considered the ‘oldies’ of the rock world and not relevant in today’s rock media. The awards show isn’t even a news item featured this morning on the main ‘current’ rock sites…

(The big news recently has been Wayne Static’s sudden death, btw. Another one lost to addiction, sad).

  32. Caleb (what’s his hoosit) needs to re-evaluate his position as the rock guy from Idol

Caleb’s claim was “Idol winner”. He never said he was the only rock guy from Idol. He has also said Adam was his favorite Idol and saw QAL perform when they were in L.A.

  33. Wow. “Current” rock sites are not paying attention / tribute to “classic” rock legends!? I find this disrespectful and pathetic.

  34. Totally unscientific and without fact I will surmise that younger music listeners, especially if the kids I know are any indication, buy and listen to more classic rock than they do the current crop. Its amazing how many young kids know Pink Floyd, Queen, The Beatles, Led, Stones, The Who, Eagles, The Doors, Van Halen, Aeorsmith, Def, Journey and dozens more. And, not only their albums but their songs are still covered and played today…check out any garage band and listen to what they are playing. Just because something is current doesn’t make it good…far from it and rock media is no more an expert than your average joe on the street. Who is making money touring? Legacy not current…and legacy acts aren’t playing to their own age group as much as they are a young and vibrant “new” listener who is starving for some half way decent “rock” music.

  35. Yeah, well it’s still an elitist and snobby genre to be sure. It’s very segmented too. Classic rock is never played on ‘current’ rock radio as well. That’s why rock’s ‘classic rock oldies’ stations exist I guess.

  36. And stations are out there that just play oldies but goodies for pop. Actually, with the little radio I play “classic” rock stations are easy to find…even across the miles of desert on road trips….current rock stations, don’t seem to exist outside of the “big” city.

  37. Really no argument from me. My point was about current rock media attention only.
FWIW, there are TONS of great ‘current’ rock acts both touring and recording if you follow that genre.

  38. I agree. That’s why Octane on Sirius XM has gotten so HUGE in just the last few years. They have actually ‘broken’ a few new bands by featuring them on their station.

  39. I’m sure they do and are….but they seem to have played the genre into obscurity. When was the last time a current rock band was the toast of billboard…..hasn’t it been a few years, at least.

  40. Congrats to Queen and Adam Lambert! A very deserving band, indeed!

  41. Loved Static X. Was pretty sad, myself, to hear that Wayne died.

  42. Very happy for Queen and Adam! They are very deserving of this award.

  43. You do not have to guess — look at Spotify, LastFM, Pandora, etc. and you can find out — and the answer is NO, people under 40 do not listen to more classic rock that current music.

  44. it’s a bit soon to claim no one is writing about the awards, it just happened last night

  45. I do not know what you mean by “toast of billboard” but last week’s Billboard #1 album was “5: The Gray Chapter” by Slipknot — genre: Rock/heavy metal/alt metal.

  46. Not much of a surprise. I like Keith but I’ve seen him struggle several times before.

  47. Since I don’t use these, or really know what they are, how are listening habits measured. And do you access these from devices other than computers. And is there a charge like Sirius?

  48. Yeah, I didn’t even mention them because that was posted as #1 in the numbers thread.
I took it as more as what fairly new current rock band on the scene was making ‘noise’ in the music industry.

  49. Do you have numbers for Octane? Comparisons to other Sirius channels? Comparisons to “free” radio channels? I haven’t been able to find any current for 2014.

  50. Hasn’t Slipknot been around since the mid 90s…I wouldn’t call them the “new” sound of rock….they have had 20 years to develop a fan base.

  51. I would think the fact that Queen can still pull in the kind of touring revenue that they do is more important than the almighty rock media. Adam probably made enough money to last him a lifetime from his touring with them. I doubt they’ll lose sleep if rock blogs dont write about them. Bands like Queen, Bon Jovi (who’s tour grossed 200 million last year), The Stones etc dont have to prove anything or worry about where their next paycheck will come from. Great rock music will stand the test of time and wont matter to those who enjoy it if its current. Lets see where these cool rock bands that get mentioned on Revolver are around in 10 years much less 30.

  52. well at one time all classic rock bands were current rock bands…and if they are really really lucky, a few of today’s current rock acts being played on current rock radio will have had successful enough careers to be able to be played on classic rock stations and be covered by Classic Rock magazine in the future

  53. Totally unscientific and without fact I will surmise that younger music listeners, especially if the kids I know are any indication, buy and listen to more classic rock than they do the current crop.

Totally unscientific: I would bet you are wrong. There is a WORLD of Alt Rock music out there you are not even aware of.

While there are young classic rock fans to be sure, I doubt it’s the go to genre for millennials.

Just because something is new, and my tired old ass doesn’t get it, doesn’t mean it sucks.

  54. But this is a nice award for Queen and Adam. Very few Idols other than the two ever win anything so Tess not knowing about certain acts should not take away from their win. Congrats to them!

  55. Queen and Adam have been in Blabbermouth and Loudwire so that’s not a problem. But as you say, this is a classic rock award and that’s what they won for. So I’m happy for them and their fans.

  56. This is a really wonderful honor for Queen and Adam. Looks like they had a fun night. Adam has won several awards in China, one each in Hungry and Canada and a few other international awards. So it is nice to see him win with Queen on this soil, lol.

ETA: He did get a Grammy nominatin and tied with Frank Ocean for the Glaad music award on this soil.

  57. Adam does get credited with bringing amazing rock performances to the show. Maybe not on this blog, but he gets it in other places. I remember when he and his band performed at that big rock festival in Russia (50K), Russian media were surprised and they said he was a mix of Elvis and Guns N Roses, lol. So he gets his fair share of praise for being able to rock when he chooses.

ETA: Just because it is not recognized here does not mean it did not happen.

  58. So happy for Adam and Queen. He was glowing last night :) I’ve noticed on this site that whenever Adam is featured someone always inserts a point of contention in terms of relevance and fires off a huge debate. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. SMH. Let the man be happy with his accomplishments and be happy for him rather than waste time batting semantics and stats back and forth. YOLO!

  59. Agree. IMO, it is so refreshing to see something other than yet another country award being recognized.

  60. Nevertheless, it is a terrific validation of Queen in the music pantheon and a great boost for Lambert’s reputation as a (quoting MJ) world-class singer. I’ll take it.

  61. Reminder:

STAY ON TOPIC. Commenting on the blog, on the commenters, on the conversation itself NEVER EVER EVER THE TOPIC.

NO LECTURING or telling others how and what to think.

  62. How many rock bands today will have their songs played 35 years later at sporting events, time after time? I’ve been to many pro games where I’ve heard “We Will Rock You”, oh so many times, as well as other Queen songs.

  63. I’m not disputing legacies or accumulated wealth. Very few acts today, rock or in any other music genres, will ever equal the record sales and money made by legacy acts in their hey days, the music industry has changed waaay too much.

My point was just about what is ‘current’ and news worthy in the specific genre. What bands are ‘hot’ right now.

Just like in pop or country, for example, what current groups are buzzy and get the media coverage and the press because of radio success, great live touring or sales, etc. Same applies for rock, (although sales in the genre aren’t quite as important as they are in other genres, it’s more about the cred and paying your dues.)

…For a country comparison example, (Windmills maybe could answer this better:) who does country press currently cover more, FGL and Luke Bryan or Conway Twitty?

  64. Well that could explain maybe why he was so bad in his first song. Maybe he’s having issues again.

  65. “it’s more about the cred and paying your dues.” If you can feed your family on that, good. But if you want to get noticed and make several mil in the process, you better bring more to the table than lofty ambitions about cred.

  66. EXACTLY. Thats what I was trying to express but you hit the nail on the head. Rock cred is all fine and good but I wonder how many artists would trade rock cred for something else if it can no longer provide food on the table? That said I’d wager a guess that any current rock act would jump at the chance to tour with a classic band if it could make them millions and viability beyond rock blogs.

  67. Some of these bands with ‘cred’ however make a fortune in touring because of their ‘cred’.

Just because both legacy bands and newer bands are both ‘technically’ in the rock genre, doesn’t mean they would appeal to the same demo.

For example, Justin Bieber and Barry Manilow are/were both ‘techically’ pop acts, but they would never tour together, lol.

  68. Blabbermouth has now reported the Queen + Adam Lambert win and also the other winners like Ozzy and Zeppelin for the Classic Rock Honors.
