Laura Benanti Says Her Sound of Music Co-Star Carrie Underwood Will ‘Prove the Haters Wrong’ – “I think she is going to be great,” Benanti told Broadway.com of Underwood. “It always makes me sad when people seem to root against other people — it doesn’t feel generous. She is one of the most famous people in the world, and yet she is incredibly humble. She knows that she is a little bit out of her element here, but I have never seen a human being work as hard as she has, and she’s doing a really, really good job. I’ve seen tremendous growth in her over the past month, and we still have three more weeks to go, so I’m excited for her. I think she is going to prove the haters wrong.” – Read more at Broadway.com

‘The Sound of Music’: Carrie Underwood wished well by Julie Andrews – “Fifty years later, it’s time somebody had another crack at it,” Andrews tells Zap2it. “I had the best time of my life doing it, and it did wonderful things for me. I think it’s great that it’s being done again, but doing it live must be so daunting for Carrie. “I know they’re not doing the movie, though. They’re doing the Broadway show — that’s what they have the rights to — and I don’t know whether it will resonate similarly. In the movie, we cut some things from the stage version and added some songs.” – Read more at Zap2it

Kellie Pickler packs a Wal-Mart in Belmont – Albemarle native Kellie Pickler was thrilled to be back in her home state on Thursday afternoon, but at the same time feeling anxious. The country singer was about to spend three hours hugging fans, mugging for cameras, signing autographs and calling people “baby” and “darling” as part of an event to promote her new CD at the Belmont Walmart. Or so she hoped. “I asked my road manager, ‘Do you think anybody’s gonna be here today?’” said Pickler, 27, looking exceptionally cheery but also a little weary as she finished up interviews in the store’s training room, still somewhat fresh off a red-eye from L.A. “I always get so nervous, and I want there to be a great turnout.” – Read more at The Charlotte Observer

‘American Idol’ Launches New Ad Campaign Using Real Contestants (Exclusive Photos) – Eight contestants ranging in ages from 15 to 26 were photographed by Mathieu Young and Michael Becker in their respective hometowns. In each image, the vocalist offers a personal reason for why they are motivated to sing — among them: to “inspire” or just “be heard.” All of the contestants featured in the ad campaign will appear before judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr. during the audition rounds of the show. – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter

‘The X Factor’: Sweet Suspense on Fifth Harmony comparisons and what’s next – The members of Sweet Suspense were still getting to know each other when they were eliminated at the beginning of the “X Factor” Top 12 elimination show. All three members auditioned individually, but like Fifth Harmony before them, Simon Cowell put them together in a group he thought could go the distance. Although the members are devastated to be leaving the competition — they’re in tears backstage as they talk to Zap2it and other reporters after the show — they’re grateful for everything they’ve gotten. “The highlight of this entire experience has been gaining two sisters — two best friends. The fact that 100,000 people auditioned for the show and we came in 12th place. It makes me so happy, but obviously there are tears,” says 16-year-old Celine Polenghi. – Read more at Zap2it
