According to Idol Chatter:
American Idol isn’t beating around the bush with eliminated contestants this season. The new departure song, which premieres tonight, is Leave Right Now by Will Young. Young, a recording artist with Idol producer 19 Entertainment, was the first winner of Idol precursor Pop Idol in the UK. Leave Right Now was No. 1 on the UK singles charts.
I’m guessing this will only be for the semi-final round? Usually Idol uses several goodbye songs during the course of the season.
UPDATE 2: American Idol news is announcing “Leave Right Now” as THE boot song HERE. The producers should have kept it in the American Idol family.
UPDATE: Season 8 Semi-finals had no boot song–contestants were advanced rather than eliminated. Carrie Underwood’s cover of Motley Crue’s “Home Sweet Home” debuted as the boot song Top 13 week.
in Season 7, Graham Colton’s single “Best Days” off the album “Here Right Now” was used as the boot song during the semi-finals. Ruben Studdard’s cover of Kenny Loggins’ “Celebrate Me Home” did not debut until the Top 12.
