Idol Billboard Update for Issue 9/27/08

This week’s Idol Billboard Chart is right HERE. Sorry it’s late–for some reason, Billboard didn’t update their charts online on Thursday as they usually do, so it put me a little behind!.

Nearly everything noteworthy has been covered in Kirsten’s weekly sales report, HERE. I’ll just mention a couple of things:

  • Daughtry had a huge sales spike due to the release of Daughtry Deluxe. It’s the the Daughtry album, with some added bonus tracks and videos. This Deluxe album is not charting as a separate album. I remember the Deluxe edition of the Dreamgirls soundtrack a few years ago DID chart separately. I’m not sure what the difference between the two is, but I’m sure there’s some deciding criteria. At any rate–nice boost for Daughtry’s numbers. The album jumped from 79-36 on the Billboard 200.
  • Jordin Spark’s “One Step at a Time” debuts on the Rhythmic Top 40 chart at #39.
  • There was no Oprah boost for David Cook’s “Time of My Life” this week. I posted in an earlier Update that perhaps Cook could climb back into the Hot Digital Songs Top 50 after his appearance on her season opener with the Olympians, but after falling 20 spots in two weeks, I realized that was unlikely. However, I was expecting at least a little bump. It fell from 46-40 on the Hot 100. It had a great run, but I think the song has finally run it’s course. It’s exactly the right time for the new single, “Light On”, to debut.
  • Theo Tams, the winner of Canadian Idol debuts on the Canadian charts this week, at #12 on the Canadian Hot 100 and #9 on the Hot Canadian Digital singles. I’ll be following all the Canadian Idols on the Canadian charts from now on. Each Canadian Idol will have an adorable symbol of the Canadian flag next to their entries, so you can tell them apart from the Americans. Heh.
