Carrie Underwood ‘Honored’ To Be In Grammys Michael Jackson Tribute

Carrie Underwood, who was just announced as the national anthem singer for next week’s Super Bowl XLIV in Miami, will have a chance to warm up on a very different nationally televised stage this Sunday. She’s one of five performers paying tribute to Michael Jackson at the Grammy Awards. As she gears up to rehearse with Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Celine Dion and Smokey Robinson, Underwood said she just hopes that the five of them can pay a fitting tribute to the late King of Pop.

“The Grammys obviously wanted to pay tribute to Michael Jackson and his music, so they wanted to do something that he was passionate about, ” the “American Idol” alum said. “So, they asked all of us, I guess five of us, to be a part of it. … I’ve met Usher. Obviously, I’ve met Jennifer Hudson. I think I’ve met all of them actually, but I don’t think I’ve ever sang with any of them, so I’m really very excited to be even considered in that group of names.”

Adam Lambert talks sex, singing and nail polish

“I think people take sex too seriously, ” Adam Lambert says as we lean back in our chairs at the hair salon while two gorgeous women futz with our nails. “It’s really not that big a deal.”

Lambert has become a big deal since he was introduced on last year’s American Idol. With his guyliner and Adam Ant hair, Lambert, the runner-up on one of the most popular TV shows of all time, became as well known for his theatrics as for his voice.

“I wear nail polish regularly, but the makeup is for special occasions, ” says Lambert, who, in his black clothes, heavy makeup and silver necklaces, looks a bit like Captain Jack Sparrow auditioning for True Blood. “I love Lady Gaga, not only because she’s a great writer and singer, but she’s a performance artist and a club kid. I like that.”

Ayla Brown on her music career, her Senator-elect dad, and ‘American Idol’ after Simon Cowell: The Music Mix interview

As of a couple weeks ago, American Idol season five alum Ayla Brown wasn’t planning to release her new EP until this April. Then last Tuesday, Jan. 19, her father, Scott Brown, was elected the first Republican U.S. Senator from Massachusetts in a generation. The next morning, she got a call from her label, Double Deal Brand Records. “They’re like, ‘Hey, we’re going to release the CD, ’” the Boston College senior, 21, recalls.”So I had no say in it. We were lucky — it was already done and ready to go.”

Even if it came as a slight surprise, Brown (pictured on Idol in 2006) is glad those political headlines caused Double Deal to rush the Circles EP to market on Jan. 26. “I feel like it’s almost promoting itself in a way after my dad won the election, ” she says. “When you’re part of an indie label, every little bit of promotion and publicity will help your music career.”

Read on for Ayla Brown’s thoughts on her American Idol experience, why it’s a mistake for the show to let Simon Cowell leave — and how her father the Senator-elect would fare if he had to face Randy, Kara, and Simon.
