How to Vote on American Idol 2023: Everything to know to vote for your favorite contestants

American Idol season 21 Top 26 episodes, filmed at the Disney Aulani Resort, kick off on Sunday, April 16. And with that episode, public voting begins. Here is how to vote on American Idol 2023.

Fans can go to AmericanIdol.com/vote or download the official phone app from Apple or Google Play. Also voting is available via good old-fashioned SMS text messaging on cell phones. For web voting MAKE SURE to log in a little early! The site may ask you to confirm your credentials or change passwords. This is particularly crucial when real time voting begins later in the season.

Three Ways to Vote

According to the American Idol FAQ at idolvote.abc.com:

  1. Vote online at AmericanIdol.com/vote. Voters MUST create an ABC.com account. First time voters will be sent a confirmation email with a verification code. After receiving the code, go back to the site and enter the code where indicated. This step is necessary only once a season.
  2. Vote in the American Idol App available for download in the Apple Store or Google Play
  3. Or Vote via Text – For text message voting, simply text the number of the contestant you would like to vote for to “21523.” The number for each contestant will be listed on the abc website when voting begins. Text voting is open to all Wireless Carriers. Message & data rates may apply. Method available IN THE US ONLY. More info HERE.

Fans have to be at least 16 years old and located in the U.S., Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands to vote on ABC.com or in the American Idol app.

UPDATE: Beginning April 30, voting for American Idol takes place during each coast-to-coast live show and closes during the final commercial break. American Idol begins at 8 ET/5 PT pm and ends 10 ET/ 5 PT unless otherwise noted (the finale typically airs 3 hours). The Top 12, contestants are assigned NEW numbers and will keep those numbers as long as they remain in the competition! As contestants are eliminated, they’ll be deleted off of the list.

How many times can a fan vote?

Each week, fans can submit up to ten (10) votes for each remaining contestant per voting method. For example, if you want to vote for a given contestant – you could submit: up to ten (10) votes for that contestant on ABC.com, up to ten (10) votes for that contestant on the American Idol app and up to ten (10) votes for that contestant via text message, for a total of up to thirty (30) votes for that contestant across all voting methods that week.

When voting online at AmericanIdol.com/vote or in the American Idol app, you can reallocate your votes until the voting window closes. Just be sure to hit “save” each time you make a change to your votes!
