American Idol casting is scheduling Idol Across America season 22 auditions.

Not much has changed over the last couple of seasons. After the auditions went virtual during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021, TV talent shows never went back to evaluating hopefuls in person. Why spend money to send a crew across America on a bus when the latest technology allows producers to listen to singers in the comfort of their offices (or even homes!)

Audition dates begin on August 4 and run through September 8. There are open dates and blocks split up by the 50 states. The open calls so far are: Singer/Songwriters, Country & Rock, Pop, R&B & Soul and then….The South Part 1! Not only does the popular geographic region get its own open call date, but a part TWO is coming! Just joking. American Idol will add more open calls as the need requires. The rest of America including the West, Midwest and Northeast will have their day, surely! The show is usually auditioning hopefuls even as the judges are filming auditions in various cities.

Hopefuls must be 15-29. Only former WINNERS are ineligible to audition again

The rules are: Hopefuls must be 15 or older by February 15, 2024 to audition, in other words, born between June 2, 1994 and February 15, 2009. American Idol contestant eligibility is moving out of Millennial territory people! In a couple of seasons it’ll be Gen Z and maybe even some Alphas!

Also, once again, every former American Idol alum who meets the age requirement can audition again, unless they previously WON the show. However, American Idol typically only brings back singers from previous seasons who left the competition before the live shows. One exception: Season 15 Top 8 finalist Avalon Young auditioned in front of the judges for season 21 and made it to Hollywood. However, producers decided not to air her journey.

American Idol season 22 will air on ABC mid-season. While ABC officially renewed the show, they have not yet announced the return of host Ryan Seacrest and judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan. After nabbing the Wheel of Fortune hosting gig (which won’t start until 2024) Ryan assured fans that he’ll return to Idol. As far as the judges are concerned…stay tuned. Katy was the center of gossip all through season 21. Rumors swirled that she wants to leave the show. But stay tuned (as the trio negotiates a better contract! Heh).
