Headlines: Pentatonix, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks

Pentatonix Set Their Sights on Pop Radio, Show You How to Do the Yahoo Yodel – It seems Pentatonix have done it all. But now, with their new self-titled album – their first of almost entirely original material – they’ve set their sights on yet another milestone. Pentatonix want a hit radio single. And with the groovy, ‘90s R&B-inspired “Can’t Sleep Love” (which, incidentally, has racked up 5.8 million YouTube views and counting), they just might conquer the Top 40, too. Carrie Underwood is a superstar. So why does she still fly under the radar? – Yet with all the accolades, Underwood, 32, still somehow flies under the radar. With 29 million digital singles sold, for example, she sits behind Rihanna (100 million), Taylor Swift (93.5 million) and Kanye West (47.5 million), but ahead of Nicki Minaj (25 million), Beyoncé (24 million) and Adele (22 million) — yet she attracts a fraction of the pop culture frenzy. Why is that? Maybe she’s just not polarizing enough. (When’s the last time you can remember a “Carrie Underwood controversy”?) Maybe it’s her natural inclination as an introvert to shy away from the spotlight. Or, maybe it just looks as if her fairy-tale life and success have come to her so easily that some people don’t think to give her enough credit. – Read more at Washington Post

Dancing’s Derek Hough: Jennifer Grey’s Helping Us with Our Dirty Dancing Routine – It feels great to be back with my baby! Pun intended! We have the rumba this week to Dirty Dancing. Normally, we can do our own versions of these dances, but they told us they want us to reflect the original as possible. We still have some freedom with it. The tough part is the lift, of course. I don’t normally do lifts and I never really have done those on the show. And this is a really difficult lift to do. We try every day and we’ve gotten really close. Yesterday, we went to a lake — and I use that term loosely. It was more of a smelly bog. It was in the Hills. There’s a little reservoir and it was so gross. The silt was like 3-feet deep. When you stepped in it, the bubbles popped. Believe me, I did not choose that location! But it was actually really fun. – Read more at TVGuide.com
