Nicki Minaj comedy series gets picked up by ABC Family – ABC Family has given a series commitment order to a comedy that is executive-produced by multiplatinum rapper Nicki Minaj. The single-camera comedy is based on Minaj and her family’s immigration from Trinidad in the early ’90s–with focus on her childhood in Queens and the path that let to her eventual rise in the music scene. Minaj, who is behind such hits as “Starships” and “Anaconda,” will also appear in the series–but in what capacity is unclear. “This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” Minaj said in a statement. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.” Production will begin in Minaj’s hometown of Queens, N.Y., this winter. – Read more at the LA Times
Martina McBride, Cassadee Pope Head Up Pandora’s Women in Country – Martina McBride, Cassadee Pope and RaeLynn are sharing a bill next month to further the role of women in country music. Presented by streaming-music service Pandora, “Pandora Presents: Women in Country Music” will highlight the contributions from country’s fairer sex. ‘The Voice’ Set for Iceland, Africa in Latest Format Deals – TV producer Talpa, now owned by U.K. TV giant ITV’s ITV Studios, said Tuesday that it has sold its hit singing competition format The Voice to Iceland and several African countries, including Cameroon, Angola and Ivory Coast. The latest deals bring the number of local versions of The Voice to close to 65 worldwide, the company said. “Other countries preparing to launch The Voice in the near future are Ecuador, Azerbaijan and South Africa,” Talpa said. – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter

Carrie Underwood Feels Like “a Happier Person” Since Welcoming Her “Sweet” Baby Isaiah – Carrie Underwood is gearing up to release her new album, Storyteller, next month while also tending to her baby, Isaiah , who was born February 27. The little one is currently teething, so he’s not sleeping as well as he used to.
