Post-”American Idol,” Jena Irene gets back to the drawing board with new attitude, music – “I had to kind of go back to the drawing board to figure out what kind of artist I wanted to be, what kind of message I wanted to send out,” says Asciutto, 19, who continues to reside in Farmington Hills. “I basically just spent the past year and a half, two years focusing on my songwriting and really trying to figure things out. “’American Idol’ was great, but it didn’t really teach me a lot about artist development and songwriting. I was a girl on ‘American Idol.’ There were a lot of different things people told me, so many different opinions that were shot towards me from every single direction. It was a lot of information to take in, and I basically just lost myself.” “It took awhile for me to actually gain the confidence to walk into an office at a record label or anything like that because it’s super-intimidating after you’re just thrown into the fire of the music industry. I mean, I was just on a singing show, and then I had…nothing. – Read more at The Oakland Press
Taylor Hicks stops at Fairfield’s StageOne – Among his shows will be a gig at Fairfield Theatre Company. The Thursday, April 21, concert takes place at the FTC’s StageOne. Hicks’ fans, who call themselves the Soul Patrol, can expect some personal attention, including “American Idol” stories and some tales from his travels, along with the music. “I have played a lot of shows all over the country, and if I can do an intimate show, I really enjoy that,” Hicks said. “It will be a great, acoustic show, and I’m excited to bring one of my favorite guitar players, Jamie McLean.” The singer said he will perform lots of tunes, including his original, “What’s Right is Right.” He’ll also do an Elvis number, and may even take requests, depending on how things go. – Read more at CTPost.com
Chris Daughtry Wants ‘Something Good’ To Spread Like Wildfire – When can we expect the next Daughtry studio album? We probably got two [songs] that are 100 percent yes. And we have about four or five that maybe with the right production they’d make the record but nothing that anyone’s overly excited about. Once you get into that fifth record and put out a greatest hits, good isn’t good enough. So even songs where we’re like, ‘Oh that’s good song!’ — It’s not exactly what we want. We want great. It’s going to be a whole lot of back to the drawing board very soon. We’re going to be hitting the studio and getting on the writing train back in LA. We’re just putting in the legwork now and hopefully we’ll start tracking in June and July. – Read more at Huffington Post

Dancing With the Stars’ Tom Bergeron OK with tweeting from dad’s deathbed – To be with his dad toward the end, he missed a week of “Dancing With the Stars” last fall. The ever-amiable Bergeron tells Zap2it that at the time, “I put out a tweet, a black-and-white photo of me as a little boy with him with his arm around me. And I said something like, ‘He supported me my whole life. I’m returning the favor.’ So I was at his bedside, and I said, ‘Dad, I’m going to miss the show, so I put a tweet out. And here it is.’ He looked at it, he paused and then he said, ‘That’s good. How many hits did we get?’ ” – Read more at Zap2it
Photos and Interview: Why Nyle DeMarco Is Inspired to Win Dancing with the Stars – Nyle DiMarco can’t hear the music, but that hasn’t stopped the former America’s Next Top Model hunk and his partner Peta Murgatroyd from being among the top contenders on this season’s Dancing with the Stars. DiMarco, who has caused quite a stir several weeks by revealing his six pack — this past week as a shirtless Tarzan and in week one by ripping open his shirt — has twice had the highest score of the night, and only had one week where he faltered. His run on the show has been awe-inspiring, including last week on Disney night, when DiMarco again was one of the top scorers, receiving 34 points out of a possible 40. His scores are keeping him as a front-runner for the mirror-ball trophy.
“I want to prove that I am a true contender and that I can be the very first Deaf winner,” he told Parade.com in an email interview. – Read more at Parade.com
Photos: Meet The Voice Top 12 and Find Out Who They Want to Hear From on Twitter – The Top 12 take to The Voice stage tonight as the final part of their journey to the finale begins. Song choice will play a huge role in who stays and who goes home as America votes for its favorites.
What remains to be seen is if a four-chair turn from the judges, like those that Alisan Porter and Mary Sarah received, will translate to popularity with the audience at home. It did last season with Jordan Smith, who has just released his single “Stand in the Light.” But before the artists take to the stage, Parade.com spoke with them on the red carpet to find out their winning strategy. – Read more at Parade.com
