La’Porsha Renae: Why Are Faith, Family & Music So Important To This Vocal Powerhouse? – DailyVenusDiva.com: Between making it to the finals on the final season of American Idol, releasing a new album and performing live on stage with several musical heavy weights; you’ve had an extraordinary last few years. Have you had a chance to sit back and say, “I did that” and take it all in? La’Porsha Renae: Not really. I’ve been on the move and hungry to capitalize off of all the exposure I got from Idol. Sometimes it hits me when I’m watching the audience sing one of my songs. – Read more at DailyVenusDiva
Interview: Crystal Bowersox truly comes ‘Alive’ on new album – “My priorities are in order, and I regularly check in with that inner voice to make sure I’m not only hearing it, but also listening to it and acting accordingly. I stopped drinking alcohol about a year and a half ago which has in turn amplified my ability to keep a clear head and a connection to spirit,” she continues. Subsequently, that spilled over into the music she was writing and recording. For the first time, “I feel as though I am fully living, now,” she says. “I am grateful for every waking moment, even the days when the rain seems to pour. I think that often times we forget how precious every gradient layer of life is. If it weren’t for the emotional pain we sometimes must endure, we wouldn’t have a darn clue how to appreciate the joy and fulfillment available to us in between the difficult times. Learning to live with an open heart is only terrifying if one is unwilling to see the valuable lessons that despair and darkness have to offer. I want to feel it all. To me, that is what it means to be alive.” – bsidesbadlands.com
Carson Daly Wouldn’t Let Go of His First Emmy for ‘The Voice’ – In 2013 did you think “The Voice” had a shot against perennial favorite “The Amazing Race”? I didn’t think we had a chance. We were shocked the year before to be nominated because we were nominated and “American Idol” wasn’t, so we figured we got the singing spot. Year one we knew we wouldn’t win. Then come year two, we figured the same thing. You have to remember we were still in the afterglow of “The Voice” being a bonafide hit. Nobody thought that it was going to be a successful show because we weren’t humiliating people on television. – Read more at Variety

Fifth Harmony Reveal If They’ll Follow 1D Solo Path – Regarding that new direction, following the departure of former member Camila Cabello late last year to pursue a solo career, many have speculated if the remaining singers would follow suit à la boy band counterpart One Direction. While the ladies acknowledged they each have individual aspirations, they insisted Fifth Harmony is “where it’s at.” – OnAirwithRyan
Reality Talent Pioneer Nigel Lythgoe: ‘I Want to Leave Having Made an Impact’ – It’s fascinating to read the particulars about what’s involved with auditioning. Contestants have to agree that some of their privacy will be gone. And of course, legal language can be intimidating. How does everyone handle this? William Hung went on and sang on Idol. He could have faced ridicule, but America went the other way and loved the way he put his heart and soul into it. We’re not a show that has ever put anybody down. We’ve always been a show that accepted all styles and all forms of movement as dance. If someone isn’t as good as they can be, we’ve never said, “Go away,” but we’ve always said, “Go away, work hard and come back.” Look at tWitch (Stephen Laurel “tWitch” Boss) who came back and worked his socks off, got on the show and became a star. – Read more at Parade
Nigel Lythgoe previews ‘So You Think You Can Dance,’ talks ‘Idol,’ Vanessa Hudgens, lyrical flexing – For instance, he honestly didn’t know yet again if SYTYD would even get renewed after last year’s less-than-enthralling “juniors” edition. But Fox gave the show another shot, albeit with a shorter season. They also scaled back the audition cities to just two from three in 2016 and four in earlier seasons. Lythgoe said while the entertainment press focuses on salaries of judges, much of the cost of creating a show like this is in the production, especially the auditions in cities outside of Los Angeles. Skimming back the audition sites saves money albeit at the expense of possibly missing potential talent. But due to new work visa restrictions, the Russian twins couldn’t return for the Academy portion of the competition. “I’m not sure it’s Trump’s fault but you can blame him since it seems like he gets blamed for everything!” Lythgoe mused. – Read more at AJC
