‘American Idol’ winner David Cook says single, upcoming album ‘a new chapter’ – “I mentioned when ‘Digital Vein,’ our last record was coming out, that I felt like that record was a good bookend to the last decade or so of my music career, starting with the CD I put out before ‘Idol,’” Cook said during an interview with USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin on Tuesday. “This new EP and the new music really does feel like a new chapter. I know it sounds really cliché to say it that way, but this all feels very different and it’s something I’m really excited about.” The new direction has allowed him to dive into alternative and cinematic pop, music like Halsey and Aurora, he said, while still allowing him to hold onto his rock ideals and influences such as Nine Inch Nails and Massive Attack. – Read more at Stevenspoint Journal

Going deep and getting high with Jena Irene Asciutto – Asciutto describes her life post-Idol as “an unlearning process.” “They teach you how to smile, you know?” she says. She seems happy to distance herself from that time in her life. “The more press and shows and content I put out means I’m moving farther away from those years and that period of my life,” she says. “It’s going to get pushed down, which is why I’m excited for this album to come out.” When asked if she is glad she ultimately didn’t win American Idol, Asciutto says, “Fuck yeah, dude.” She finishes her toke with broken breath. “I wouldn’t have been able to write my own songs. They have songwriters,” she says. When she brought up the idea to perform her own songs to the show’s executive producers, she says they wouldn’t even listen to them. “It’s so degrading when you’ve written songs from the age of like, 12, for someone to like, not even hear you out,” she says. – Read more at Metro Times

Joshua Davis Talks Takeaways From ‘The Voice,’ Shares ‘Let Me In’ From New Album – “Before The Voice I never thought of myself as a singer first,” Davis tells Billboard. “So being on The Voice and working with Trelawny five or six times a week really changed the way I thought about my voice and how I should use it. It kind of caught me by surprise; I focus on my songwriting mostly, and I didn’t realize how much [the vocal coaching] would affect the way I write songs. Now where I”m supposed to be singing has totally changed the way I write melodies and the keys I write in and the way I write songs. It had a really huge effect.” – Read more at Billboard

DWTS Host Tom Bergeron Takes in the Summer Tour!

Is Fashion Ready for Fifth Harmony? – “We’re very individual,” said Kordei, on a recent visit to the Vogue office. “Our look has definitely evolved, and it’s given us the opportunity to find ourselves and know what we like and don’t like.” Since they first joined together on the second season of The X Factor, the girls have gone from wearing Topshop separates on stage to arriving at this year’s iHeartRadio Music Awards in flashy Philipp Plein. Finding their style and growing up in front of the camera wasn’t easy, but it shaped their strong opinions and fostered a collaborative spirit. The group recently enlisted stylists Johnny Wujek and Gigi Fernandez, whose daring choices helped them quickly embrace statement dressing. “In the beginning, we were 15 or 16 and being cutesy,” Jane said. “Now we’re trying to elevate, working with different stylists and their visions. When they’re with us daily, they get to know each of us, then we create something cohesive.” – Read more at Vogue

‘The Bachelorette’: Millennials Are Fleeing Rachel Lindsay’s Season – Forget lame suitors like Lucas, it is millennials who are truly failing “Bachelorette” Rachel Lindsay. In the 18-34 demographic’s TV ratings, “The Bachelorette” is down 24 percent year over year, with a 1.9 versus last summer’s 2.5. Among men of that age range, the decline is an even 25 percent, with women clocking in at minus 22 percent. That means those born between 1983 and 1999 are departing the ABC series more than any other age range, right as we finally got our first African-American “Bachelorette.” So much for our most progressive generation. – Read more at The Wrap
