Jordin Sparks heading to Chicago for Macy’s Great Tree lighting – “American Idol” season six winner Jordin Sparks will be in Chicago on Nov.7 as headliner for the annual lighting of Macy’s Great Christmas Tree celebration. The lighting of the 45-foot-tall tree, which adorns the legendary Walnut Room in the State Street store (111 N. State), has been a holiday tradition in Chicago for over 100 years (beginning with Marshall Field’s). The Nov. 7 ceremony will take place at noon. From ‘American Idol’ contestant to college student, rising star settles on the Hill – Brandy Neelly, a sophomore from Oldham County, is an up-and-coming country-music artist who was discovered on “American Idol,” a televised singing competition. Neelly is now the lead vocalist of the Brandy Neelly Band. The band is currently under contract with Century Music Group, located in Nashville.
