Headlines: Carrie Underwood Heads to Europe

Tonight, the Amazing Race featuring social stars continues on CBS at 8/7c pm. We’ll be live blogging!

‘American Idol’: 8 Things You Didn’t See Overnight – Warm-up person extraordinaire Cory Almeida was back in the Idol Dome for a rare appearance this season. Just before the show went live to the East Coast, Almeida spotted a familiar figure walking into the room and introduced him to the audience — Nigel Lythgoe, who executive produced many seasons of Idol and who is back to be executive producer of the three-night series finale, to be broadcast live April 5-7. Special guest performer and former The X Factor judge Demi Lovato sang “Confident” (with the top 10) and her new single, “Stone Cold,” but it wasn’t quite live. Lovato pre-taped her performance between 4 and 4:30pm PST, running through each song twice, to thunderous applause from the audience. Those who were in their seats early were able to see Lovato live; those who arrived late had to settle for the video playback during the broadcast. On one break, Harry Connick, Jr. photobombed some unsuspecting teen girls, who were posing for a picture with the set in the background. When they discovered what Connick had done, one teen in particular seemed displeased but we’ll give her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she was just caught off-guard. Billboard bumped into the man from Birmingham, Ala., season 5 winner Taylor Hicks. “I think this top 8 is the greatest collection of voices Idol has ever had. I have my favorites but won’t spill the beans just yet,” he said with a smile. – Read more at Billboard

‘American Idol’ bits: Adam Lambert interview – But nowadays, his look is more refined. “As an artist,” he said, “I’ve evolved. I’m more based in reality than fantasy now. In terms of production and visuals, this is the biggest show I’ve done on my own. We’ve worked hard to put together great lighting and video with a strong sense of fashion. It’s pulling from different areas. It’s contemporary.” As for his fashion sense, he said making more money makes a difference. “I don’t have to shop on Melrose Ave. in Los Angeles for wannabe rock star clothes. I can actually buy rock star clothing that rock stars are making. I’ve always loved fashion, I’ve always loved clothing. Before, I felt like I was sort of in costume. Now, it’s about actual streetwear.” – Read more at AJC.com

Kelly Clarkson on Emotional ‘Idol’ Performance: ‘Crying on National TV Isn’t Really My Idea of a Good Time’ – “It was just, stars aligned for me to really be screwed emotionally [that night],” she said. “It was just the last time I was on Idol and my little kid is running around the same hallways that I was running around at 19. I was just super screwed!” “I’m so embarrassed,” Clarkson said. “It’s so funny to me that everybody was like, ‘It was remarkable!’ … Well, crying on national television isn’t really my idea of a good time.” Although Clarkson is grateful for the support she has received for the song, she told Z100 that it is “incredibly sad” how many people understand what she went through. – Read more at Billboard.com
