Headlines: American Idol “Too Soon” Says Former EP

‘American Idol’ Revival: ‘Too Soon,’ Says Former EP Nigel Lythgoe (EXCLUSIVE) – Among the flummoxed is former “Idol” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, who tells Variety, “They got their wish, but it feels a little too soon to bring it back.” Lythgoe, who EPs another longtime Fox staple, “So You Think You Can Dance,” worked on “Idol” from 2002 to 2008 and again from 2010 through 2016. He was also the creative driver behind the penultimate finale in April 2016. He says that while he still “loves the show,” he believes you resurrect a series “when there is public demand that it come back.” At the same time, Lythgoe gives credit to ABC for “looking after its shows, like ‘Dancing With the Stars,’” which is currently in its 24th season, as well as FremantleMedia’s Trish Kinane, who he says “did a good job” with “Idol’s” final seasons. – Read more at Variety

Former FOX scheduler weighs in on American Idol Reboot – Big up ABC for stepping up and taking the chance on an “American Idol” revival. In this TV environment, you can never have enough live events and reality competition shows on your schedule. Sure, “AI” was in its mature phase and had come down from the stellar heights of the first 8 or 9 seasons, but when it left the air it was still pulling in better than 9 million viewers. Look, it’s inevitable that a show like “American Idol” was going to decline, but as I would tell Mike and the producers, “Idol” can either crash into the earth or we can bring it in for a smooth landing. Unfortunately, in the last few years, there were some decisions made which accelerated the erosion. They can be recognized and addressed with a fresh set of eyes. – Read more at TVByTheNumbers

Normani Kordei Reveals Why She Opened Up About Cyber Bullying on Dancing With the Stars: “It’s a Very Scary Thing” – “I think for a long time I kind of steered away from myself and I didn’t necessarily recognize who I was at one point just because I was very sad. News’ Sibley Scoles. “Not only for myself, but for so many people who feel the same way that are probably fearful to even speak up because of questioning, ‘Will I be accepted?’ Just scared, it’s a very scary thing and subject.” – Read more at ENews
