HDD – Album Sales Prediction : Oct 07-13

With 54.02% of the chart reporting in, Miley Cyrus will once again be sticking out her tongue. This time, at her critics. She’s easily going to have the number one album of the week. This will be her third (of 4) studio albums to top the charts. Of course, she’s released a lot of stuff as Hannah Montana including live albums, so she does have a pretty impressive sales record. Miley is predicted to sell 250-270K.

Currently, Justin Timberlake who was first last week is second this week. That’s not expected to stand. He’s predicted to end the week in 4th after suffering a staggering 80% loss in sales. The second volume of “20/20 Experience” is not as critically praised as the first and maybe it’s too much Justin in one year. Drake is third in his third week and expected to stay there.

Currently stationed in 4th is Voice Season 3 winner, Cassadee Pope. I believe that this is the first major release from The Voice/Universal Republic crew since the disastrous launches in Season 1 (so long ago, that the guy who won Idol that same season is releasing his third studio album this week). Javier failed to crack the top 100, was slightly outsold by his runner-up and was quietly released from his album contract. The Season 2 winner did not get an album after a few singles stumbled. So, The Voice re-tooled, re-jigged the rules and got a winner that they felt was more marketable. They brought in the man behind Big Machine to help promote her and she got a real manager. Let’s see if their new-found investment in success works. Currently, her album is in 4th, expected to finish the week in 7th and is anticipated to out-sell Idol winner Lee DeWyze. Predicted sales are 40-45K. It is hard for women to break into the Country genre these days.

Speaking of Country, there is old number four, Luke Bryan parked at number 5. Zac Brown might not like Luke’s latest single, but the buying public sadly loves it. Hip-hopper Pusha T is in third, rockers Korn are at 7th and emo-ers Panic! at The Disco are 9th. Don’t panic yet, Panic! is expected to finish the week in the number 2 slot with 95-100K in sales. Prince Royce is my wiki search of the week (bachata, Latin Pop, R&B) is 9th and Kiwi sensation Lorde is 10th.

Other than Cassadee, there are no other reality singing contestant albums in the top 50. Jordin Sparks did co-write a track on Ariana Grande’s album that is sitting at 32nd. Glee’s “The Quarterback” hit number one on iTunes late in the week, so I suspect iTunes hasn’t reported yet since it must have sold more than the 1,608 that currently marks the bottom of the chart.
