HDD – Album Sales Prediction : June 30-July 6

With 55.94% of reports in, Trey Songz is set to have the number one album. You’d think that would be usually enough to dominate the press, but all anybody seems to be talking about is a fellow R&B act at number 10. The press seems agog at the slow motion train wreck that is Robin Thicke’s career. Tepid sales of his “apology” album to his wife would be spilling barrels of ink if the news media wasn’t suffering the same fate as the music biz – so they spill pixels instead. His last album opened with 177K and this one is predicted to be in the 20-25K range. Get a grip, dude.

Meanwhile, back on the farm, Trey Songz is the number one album. This will be his second number one album. “Chapter V” was released in August of 2012 and sold 135K in its first week. “Trigga” is predicted to sell around 90-100K.

Sam Smith spends his third week at number 2 (always a bridesmaid, never a bride). “In the Lonely Hour” is predicted to sell 45-50K. He may be pipped at the post by Ed Sheeran who is currently way back in 5th but is predicted to end up second with 50-55K in sales (jaw-dropping second week, but that’s what happens when you get all those advanced sales). Seether (South African post-grunge/alternative metal) is currently opening in 3rd, but may have to settle for 5th.

Magic! “Don’t Kill the Magic!” (goofy title or what?) is a Canadian Reggae Fusion band that released their first album on Canada day. They’ve been writing songs for others and now it’s their turn to take the spotlight. Who knew? They are certainly doing better than another Reggae infused album released last week (*cough*The Voice’s Tessanne Chin*cough*) who isn’t even in the top 50.

Now 50 features Idol’s Kelly Clarkson and Carly Rae Jepsen on the deluxe edition is at 6th. Now 49 is at 28th featuring One Direction. Frozen is at 7th (but expected to rise). Brantley Gilbert is at 8th and Miranda Lambert is 9th. We’ve already discussed Robin Thicke (eye-roll).

Phillip Phillips continues to represent the reality singing show competitors moving up to 40th (well, other than Miranda). Pharrell (23), JLo (29) and Blake (36) represent the judges.
