HDD – Album Sales Prediction : June 25-Jul 1

With 51.61% of reports in, Linkin Park is off to a convincing lead. They are expected to sell in the mid-200K level range and to nab their 5th number 1 album. Who said Rock is dead? (Of course, it seems that whenever somebody declares an artist to be “rock”, somebody else will immediately chime in and say “So-and-so is NOT rock”, so maybe it is dead…or at least difficult to define to satisfy everybody). In any event, Linkin Park is first.

Nipping at their heels is Maroon 5 which features Voice judge, Adam Levine. The lead-off single (“Payphone”) reached the top of the Pop and HAC radio charts this week. With them predicted to sell over 200K, I guess they aren’t “Overexposed” yet.

Adam’s pal, Justin Bieber is expected to come in third and Kenny Chesney in 4th for their second weeks. MMG Presents: Self Made will debut in 5th. Despite his legal troubles, health troubles and having his songs repeatedly butchered on Idol, R. Kelly is expected to debut in the top 10 which will be his 14th studio album to do so. He’s currently in 6th. Usher is in 7th, Adele is 8th (has she ever been this far out of first?), Luke Bryan is 9th and Fiona Apple is 10th.

Not a single reality show contestant is in the top 10 this week. Wow. Well, a judge is and The Voice is all about the judges so maybe that counts. The highest ranking actual reality show contestant is One Direction from UK X-Factor at 12th. They also have tracks on Now 42 at 11th (Kelly Clarkson does as well). Voice judge Blake Shelton appears on Now Country 5 at 13th.

Our first Idol to show up on the list is Carrie Underwood at 18th while Kelly Clarkson is at 48th. Kelly Clarkson also appears on Jason Aldean’s album at 26th.

Pentatonix becomes the most successful winners from the now cancelled “Sing-Off” with a debut in 27th. They are predicted to move about more than the Voice winner did during his debut on Black Friday (both shows are on NBC). They’ve worked hard to keep their fans interested in the year following their win, so congratulations. An a capella group is a pretty hard sell these days.
