With just 32.74% reports in yesterday, Justin Bieber is off to a convincing lead. His album, “Believe” is predicted by HDD and Billboard to sell 400K+ making it the biggest debut of the year so far. Kenny Chesney will finish far back in second with about half as many sales, but the 200K he’s predicated to sell would have topped the chart most weeks this year.
Despite terrible reviews and so-so box office, the soundtrack album for “Rock of Ages” is pushing some units. It is currently 3rd. Usher, who topped the chart last week, is a distant 4th. Fiona Apple is currently debuting in 5th is predicted to be the 3rd best selling album of the week (top 3 will all be debuts). Adele is in the unusual position of 6th. Usually, she’s in the top 3. Still, most artists would be more than happy to sell 50-55K a week well into their second year. Heck, most would be thrilled to debut with that. Smashing Pumpkins are still around (my surprise for the week) and will debut in the top 10. Right now they are 7th. Rush is 9th and Alan Jackson is 10th.
The top and only Idol of the week is Carrie Underwood. Her “Blown Away” is 13th. Kelly Clarkson makes an appearance on Now 42 at 16th and Jason Aldean’s album at 33.
One Direction is the sole X-Factor contender and they are still in the top 10 at 8th. They too make an appearance on the Now 42 album.
Representing the Voice, judge Blake Shelton appears on Now Country 5 at 31.
