With 36.20% of the reports in, those two Christmas singing Canadians continue to top the charts. Michael Buble, helped by his very successful Christmas special on NBC, is out to a commanding lead. Just behind him is Justin Bieber with his “Under the Mistletoe”. Michael just crossed over the 1 million mark and is now setting his sights on double platinum. Can he get their before Christmas (when his sales will suddenly fall off a cliff)? Bieber isn’t doing so badly himself. He has 674K in sales as of last week. Platinum may be within reach. Between the two of them, they have 7 songs in the top 40 on AC including the top 3 (Michael has the top 2).
I need to get a macro that types “Adele is in third” because she’s rarely been out of the top 3 since February and it doesn’t look like she plans on leaving anytime soon. Jackie Evancho from 2010’s AGT is in 4th with her Walmart exclusive album (her third album in less than a year – Simon might want to rethink his strategy of keeping his XF winner out of the stores for 8-9 months since he’s had so much like with Jackie). Nickelback is rounding out the top 5 with their “Here and Now” showing some legs. It looks like releasing singles to two formats worked out well for them.
NOW 40, featuring a track from Kelly Clarkson and one from the Voice Judges Christina and Adam, is in 6th. The top debut for this week is the Black Keys at 7th, but they will probably move up once the final chart is released. Lady A won an ACA for group of the year last week and have moved firmly into the top 10 at 8th this week. Drake (formerly from Degrassi) is in 9th.
Rounding out the top 10 is Amy Winehouse with her posthumously released album debuting at 10th so far.
Our first solo Idol appears just outside of the top 10. It’s Scotty McCreery at 11th (in his 10th week). Daughtry is at 19th and Kelly Clarkson is at 35th. Kelly also appears on Jason Aldean’s album which is currently at 13th. Carrie duets with Tony Bennett on his 48th place album and has a track on Now Christmas 4 at 22nd
The Got Talent series has, in addition to Jackie, Susan Boyle at 20th for her new album and 27th for her 2010 Christmas album. This year’s AGT winner, Landua, is at 46th.
Glee has it’s new Christmas album at 30 and it’s debuting 7th album at 32nd.
